Prius Mirror Replacement - NHW20 (2004-2009)

    This video is probably 8 years old when I was watching this. I must say, this one is probably the most accurate and step by step. It's clean and it doesn't do any damage to the door panels. However, i am running into the issue with taking apart the door handle plastic cover piece. @ 2:38 into the video, you used some kind of pointy tool to stick into the hole of the where the lock is and used the tool to loosen something inside. I kept going back to 2:35 when you said to use a Num Notching tool. Right when you stuck that in between the lever and the hole, it seemed like you were able to loosen something inside which doens't say where to target to loosen the plastic covering. Can you please explain how this is done to loosen the plastic cover piece? Most other videos i've watch damage this plastic piece and because of that, i don't want to try their other approach to it. I think yours seem to be the best apprach to replacing the side mirror. I know it's been a long time since you published this video but hopefully you'll still see this. Thank you

      Hi there! Thanks for the feedback. Still happy to help with questions! The tool I’m using is a “non marring tool” - it’s from the computer repair industry, designed not to mess up plastics while prying on it. You can get metal picks from most auto stores which also generally safe to use if you’re careful. Good luck, take it slow and you’ll be fine :)

    • @TheducksOrg
      @TheducksOrg 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Sorry, there were a couple of versions of PSUs in the Apple II, and this less common one didn't have rivets, or they had been removed in a previous repair by someone else, so it only had screws. For the other style, use a centre punch to establish a mark in the centre of the rivet, and then drill it out with a M3 drillbit. Good luck with your repair!

    2:15 How do you know if you have airbags in your door?

    • @TheducksOrg
      @TheducksOrg 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hypatia4242 there would be an "srs airbag" logo on it - I think I might be wrong in the video. I believe the airbags are either in the pillar of the chassis, or the roof lining or the seat, not the door card (of the Prius - other vehicles may have them in the doors)

    • @TheducksOrg
      @TheducksOrg 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Robert Ballesteros The heating element is a permanent part of the mirror "glass" - at 9:50 I disconnect the wires going from the frame to the heating element. Since I didn't need to re-use the glass in the new frame, I don't show reconnecting it, but it's just a matter of plugging them into the new frame. They are not polarized. If you have bought replacement glass online and it doesn't have the connectors on the back for the heating element, I don't think you can move it over or add it - there is very strong adhesive holding it all together. Hope this helps?

      Very good. I bought this part from Doorman products and I tried to put the new part back but it will not click and attach. I pivoted the mount motor to the full range to make it easier but still...I cannot "click" it back. Any possible ideas or suggestion please?

    • @TheducksOrg
      @TheducksOrg 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Robert Ballesteros I looked up pictures of the Doorman part, and it doesn't have a heating element, so nothing to reconnect. Regarding it not snapping into place, the white plate inside the mirror is very strong nylon, so don't feel too worried about about pushing very hard, just make sure the "hooks" at the top of the mirror have gone into the right place in the plate. Also check the hooks to see if there is plastic flashing inside them from the mold process that might be stopping them going up far enough, if so a nail file or something will clear it out pretty easily.
