Just a happy blue collar working class dude in his late 20's, trying to have a good time on this rock rotating around the sun.
My main objective here on TH-cam is to provide good insight on things, usually the hard to find stuff. I tend to talk a lot and go into great detail over topics, and even repeat what I say at times in my videos. I do this simply because I would rather give all the answers I can, rather than not enough, just know you will always get my most honest opinion and advice on what I am talking about. If I find more info on what I am talking about I will post an update. If you don't like a lot of info/talk in videos, I am not for you.
I'm big into chasing tone in the game of electric guitars, pedals, Orange amps, small time recording, and in the process, helping others figure this stuff out with me.
I also really love car audio, and in general, and working on cars. Specifically my Jeep. So occasionally I have posted videos concerning that as well.
God Bless,
YFSC

More Wiring Woes and Sensitive Sensors 1998 Jeep Cherokee XJ
Saints,
Today we dig into my dad's 1998 XJ, and why it was getting inconsistent stalling/skipping/jolt and random crank no starts. The end result was a wire grounding out on the fuel rail towards the rear of the block, we taped the wire and loom back up. Then zip tied the loom where it could not touch the fuel rail again. This video was made more so for reference and an example of how to probe the wiring when you've eliminated the sensors and computer from being the problem, though I would say the wiring should be the first thing you should inspect, because if it isn't good, no (good, failing, or bad) sensor or computer/PCM will run it, so reassure yourself that the wiring is mint first, it's easy once you see how I did it, if you can wrap your mind around my thinking.. After we fixed this wire, the Jeep runs like a scolded dog.
Hope this helps,
God Bless,
YourFriendStChris

I hear where you're coming from on electrical issues in old vehicles. All these sensors and associated wiring are great and serve useful functions when they're new and fully operational. But things tend to break down as they get older and the complicated wiring pathways sure make it much more difficult to locate the trouble spot. I've got a 30-year-old Explorer. It has been very dependable overall, but evey once in awhile it momentarily falters out on the highway. I wonder if it could be a bad sensor or wiring, but I suspect maybe the fuel pump going out. I replaced it maybe four years ago. At least if it is that, I cut a hole through the floor under the back seat and patched it back with sheet metal and sealed it up so it is fairly easy access without dropping the gastank.😊
Just check your wires. Like my situation, one of the two powered leads could be going to ground, or the 5v reference can be weak and the sensor is barely getting the power it needs.
Are we working on little red 2
Oh yeah! Dad needs to square away what he wants to call it, I vote for 4.0snap.
What t-stat you running?
It's an O'Reilly premium one, all I remember it was made in Israel.
I’m looking for early family videos showing the property. We need to meet there sometime with our clan
That would be great if you can find some old movies or even still pictures of what the place looked like back in its heyday. It clearly had a lot of work put into it at one time. Interesting place.
Just let me know when, email me at LilRedSix@gmail.com
We should invite Doug Kneibert (my 87 yr old father) to visit. He can advise on history and details
Absolutely! Mark Twain Heritage is interested in meeting there as well.
Thank you all for doing what you do, I am a relative and this makes me happy to see the site is being preserved. I would love the opportunity to assist with some cleanup.
We will be back every October to do this maintenance clean up to preserve the site. Just keep up with the Heartland Trail Trash page on Facebook to see projects coming down the pipe!
This was the lake home of Dr Fred Kneibert and family.
I'm really interested in the history of the Spring and Homestead, if you have any you care to share I'd love to talk!
We enjoyed the video. Please add me to future visits?
Definitely can, to keep up with the plans, look into the Heartland Trail Trash page on Facebook, I'd really like to do a rough history video on the site in the future.. Really I could plan for that before the next clean up..
@chriskneibert were glad this is getting some attention, it's such a great little spot to chill. The spring. The bridge. The foundations. I find it to be a very peaceful place
Neat little place!! Will have to get together soon and make a run somewhere, after rifle season lol
Kudos to you and all those who helped clean up this area. This looks like a nifty little spot with the stone and concrete bridges and walkways. It must have some interesting history, but a quick Google search didn't yield much. Can you provide any information? Was it some kind of spa or resort associated with the spring? I saw your previous video from last years work day as well.
Really the history I know.. the first recorded ownership of the land was in 1856 to a Jesse Criddle, apart of 320 acre plot. Then Dr Fred Kneibert was born in 1903, and acquired it in his lifetime, the Mark Twain Heritage team thinks the homestead was build in the 1930s, so that would align with Dr Kneibert's age of going to school and ending back in Poplar Bluff area in 1928 to take on Brandon Hospital, and get married in September of the same year. He owned the property up until the 1968 when the USFS acquired the land, not sure why/how they acquired it.
@@YourFriendStChris Thanks for that info. It looks like a special place and it's great that there are people interested in cleaning it up and preserving what remains.
Planning to study at SEMO next semester
Nice place
It's a nice little town that is trying to become the better fresher version of its former self.
Thanks for letting me come along on this journey. It's been a long time since I've been down Bloomfield Road, back before they redid the road. Things have changed a lot. Still a nice drive, but I think it was prettier when there were more trees.
@@jeffreyulrich3592 I do miss the trees along this road, and the much narrower road, there was also the quick up and down elevation change on a turn that used to exist right at Kensington Lane. It is much smoother to drive on now, but doesn't seem to live up to the old title of most haunted road in Cape.
@@jeffreyulrich3592 Glad you appreciated what I'm doing with these videos, It's for the past present and future in one video.
@@YourFriendStChrisYou're doing great work. Keep it up. I wish you could've gotten some footage of Snake Hill before they straighten the road out, but that happened a bit too early to be on YT videos unless someone has some old home movies of it.
@@jeffreyulrich3592 Technology has came a long way since that time.
@@jeffreyulrich3592 I'll have a video of downtown (Main Street and Broadway) coming soon, just posted one of Siemers Drive too.
Will the sound spillover/trail when you change from the current preset to next when you scroll?
@@sixstringsofsam What I do know for sure, in buffered mode engaged, you can do a spill over setting for bypass on/off, but from what I hear when I change presets it immediately changes, so no, but I can confirm next time I pull my board out.
Your is so damn cute. ✌️
You were at Eastwood. Why are you spray painting when you could have bought a rust encapsulator, chassis saver , por15, cavity wax , etc? Do it right, do it once. Use the wrong product, and " apply more paint as needed ".
@@jeremysales1232 not simply put, from the guy that has owned this one for a decade, early on I cleaned and painted the undercarriage of my jeep with Rust reformer and then flat black rustoleum on top of that, and it has held up great, the one thing I didn't do was the inner rockers, and a north east snowstorm was the beginning of them rusting out, I repaired and replaced what needed to be done and then I treated the rest of them by cleaning them out and putting a fresh coat of POR15 where I could, but I've also witnessed POR 15 fail because it is not UV rated, and it will peel with time. Granted, spray paint will fade with time if it is exposed to wind and loose terrain or dust, but on the inside of the rocker, this is less of an issue for both the POR 15 and the spray paint, but both work if you're Rust hasn't reached flaking off stages and my rockers were still in good shape elsewhere that I left, so it should do the trick for the next decade, after that this XJ will probably get turned into the next version of itself, and the rockers will probably be gone. My question to you is how do you get POR 15 into the inside of a rocker that still closed, can it be sprayed in a similar fashion?
@@jeremysales1232 I should also add that I pulled the interior carpet out 7ish years ago and took care of the surface rust that was starting in the cab and sprayed them down, about seven months ago I had to pull the carpet from Water/mud getting in, and all my surface rust correction still looked fantastic.
I just picked up the midi baby 3 and am having a deuce of a time setting it up for banking up and down on my Volante. Would you be willing to share your settings from the DAD configuration site? Thanks!
Let me look into the DAD configuration site, I have since updated to newer beta version of the firmware for this, and I'm not positive this old video will work as well as it did the year I filmed it. I can still look into it, what firmware is on your Midi Baby 3?
Sorry for the slow response. I got a lot going on at the moment.
@@YourFriendStChris All good, I know how it goes. My Midi Baby 3 is on Firmware 11.
This footage brings back memories for me from about 15 years ago. We were staying at the Comfort Suites by Delmonico's. Rolled into Cape after 3 hour drive and decided to wait to get cheaper gas at Jackson. Bad fuel gauge, but I *thought* I had enough. Got to the stoplight going to the motel and ran out of gas! Walked family to motel and checked in. Walked to Walmart, got ride part of the way. Bought gas can. Walked back in rain to Rhodes and bought gas. No one stopped to offer a ride on way back. Cops had shown up just when I got back. Put gas in van. Took hungry kids to Huddle House by Walmart to feed them. Needless to say, I slept well that night.
Im a jeep mechanic from the 90's that ring is a factory repair spacer if it leaks at the factory to tighten it up
So if it doesn't leak, is it not necessary? Phew.. I always wondered, I just relied on, if it's working, it must be done somewhat right.
@YourFriendStChris that's correct if it's not leaking it doesn't need it they were never but in on the assembly line they were put in by qa at the end of the line or at dealer if it leaked
@@jeremyhanna3852 Thanks for your input!
Can get to hall top road off of sweetwater r which can find off of hwy 73 coming out of newport,tn. Another good road is gulf road located just west of max patch road. Can go west from max patch road and drive over a logging road to gulf road. 3 weekends ago up by top of max patch i got to see 2 smaller yearling size aboutb120.plus lb bears within a 3 hour period of time.
Best video on this issue! Very helpful I have the same on my 96 Jeep
Thanks for the kind words, I just try to help where I can!
You right
Hey bud, what size bolts did you use for the center of the pucks?
5/16" by 18 thread, 1/2 in head.
Your the man!!
How long?
@NorEastBeast It's my go-to size for a lot of things. The pucks have held up well thus far, 1.5" long will get you taken care of.
I’m at the hardware store now and you answered in a heart beat. I am now your biggest fan brother. Subbed and liked! PS. Last question. I don’t have a drill press or advice. What would you suggest the best way to drill the center of the puck?
I thought that only effects the heater lmao
so technically youd have to pay for more time on this earth, if they start doing it as a sub benefit
theyre talking about having a subscription to the store to use self checkout now
Now that is just plain stupid and greedy.
tell that to your boss not the cashier ... americans dont fight for workers rights and then blame other people for their lives that are ruined by work
Did the plastic clip come with the doorman
Yes it did!
FYI supposedly in 2023 Chrysler pulled the plug on manufactured Mopar Made sensors for the Jeep Cherokee XJ, get what you need now, and don't be left out if you want a Mopar one. Still Running strong as of 3-7-2024, 255k miles.
Helpful video. I had the problem that my '95 XJ would die on hot days and wouldn't restart for about 30 minutes. After finding that it was losing spark I purchased a cheap Chinese CPS off eBay for $20 Aus. That did the same thing but only after 3 km! Decided to buy a Goss brand CPS for $170 (probably same quality as the 'Standard' brand you used) which worked and is now running fine. Access to the CPS is difficult. From the top was impossible, from below I used several 3/8" socket extensions totalling 250mm and a wobble joint with a wrap of duct tape to hold it out. When reinstalling tape the bolt into the socket so it doesn't fall out until the threads have started. I reckon I could swap one in 30 minutes now.
Glad to help! As long as you got a year specific part for that 95, You should be good to go for a while, they are just a slightly different part for the 91-96.
Awesome video-will be doing mine as soon as it warms up a bit-but you forgot to start her up and check for leaks-did it ??-leak?-does the new lock clip snap in when you put the line back in?-or no snap?- As long as she doesn't leak!-would love to see a dry driveway this summer😎👍
Since this video my trans has not leaked. So I guess it's withstood the test of time, and I don't baby my Jeep around. I know you don't know me well enough to know how serious I take this, but I wouldn't have posted this up had it start leaking.
thanks Chris-I was hoping that all went good-you never told me if you felt a click or snap when pushing the line back in?-just a bit of reassurance to know that its in for sure-keep up the good videos-and thanks for being my Friend 👍
There was a defined seating of the clip, might make a click but probably not, but it should not allow the line to come back when tugged on.
It felt obvious that it was in there from memory, the clip expanded as it falls into the track it rests in.
I take it that you haven't done a complete line as of yet?-fingers crossed
What size rim and tire size and do you got lift?
It's 30.6" tire, 265/70r16, on a 2.25" front lift, and a well wore in 2-3" lift in the rear, about to put a new BDS Suspensions helper spring / add a leaf back there.
this isn't the Smokies. it's the Cherokee National Forest where bears are still wild and haven't been fed and chased by tourists and their cell phones. that's why you didn't see any wildlife... it's still wild and they, of course, could hear you coming.
What up Chris!?
My 99 has been stalling out at times. It’s happened twice on road now. I’ll have to gas it to keep it going. Once I park it it doesn’t start until I do a fuel dump start to get it going but that doesn’t always work for a while.
I know my main ground is bad so I’ll do that first. But I do need to check all that stuff. But could it be the cps too?
@@shimani141 I could be a number of things, fix the ground first, if it is still happening, It is probably the Crank Pos Sensor or Camshaft Pos Sensor / Pick Up Coil Sensor, but could be a fuel pump, or other throttle body sensor. I have another video where I track down the problem of a Failing Crank Pos Sensor on my 99. It's here: Crank No Start and Wiring Woes 1999 Jeep Cherokee XJ th-cam.com/video/y4M-BZs47kU/w-d-xo.html
I live near the bootheel in Missouri and have recently got interested in over landing. I didn’t even know we had this sort of trail system around here. Great video!
Mark Twain has 7 different "units" the closest to you is Poplar Bluff and Doniphan Unit, featuring towns such as Van Buren, Winona, Hunter, Williamsville, Greenville, all have Forest Routes, I know there is hidden gems all through them, especially if you just want to mainly camp, and a lot closer to you than Glade Top is, for actual offroading, I would suggest Fredericktown Unit, it has the best bang for the buck and is much closer to you than Glade Top.
Another spot to look up for your location, would be Land Between the Lakes, and the offroading area within LBL, Turkey Bay OHV park. OnX Offroad App, has all my documented trails for all the area I have mentioned in these two comments, well worth the $35 a year to see where you can go and what you can expect out there. I try to give really good details on what I put in the app! Let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks for showing us the trail numbers and where you go, I'm new to overlanding and been to the glade top a couple times and it really helps knowing what the trail looks like and where they are.
No problem! I've documented most of the trails I know in the OnX Offroad app, if you want to see more, check it out here: onxoffroad.app.link/7oOfxouNWEb I've documented a lot in SEMO. Coming back to Glade Top on Saturday.
Hi Kris thanks for the advice, I bought the dmc micro for my volante and work amazing… can you use the dmc just for the volante o more pedal at the same time?.
I actually have more videos on it if you search my channel. I made it work with a Wampler Terraform at the same time. Now I'm trying to figure out how the get the new Beta update to work with both pedals again. it's a little less functional at this point, but I'll figure it out!
Really helpful guide 👏
I did this trail in my 2005 F150 and 80% of it was done in 2wd.
The fuel pressure is dropping because the one way return valve is failing. It’s no big deal, mine has been like that for 3 years 😂
That's a pretty cool cup! I love why this cup is special to you!
Imagine having to post stupidity like this for attention
FYI there is a fire tower close to Simpson, IL that you can still climb. It's called Trigg Tower.
Oh yes! Over by Garden of the Gods? Well it's probably like 10 miles to the west of there, but none the less close..
I've found like 5 of them over here in Missouri that you can still climb to the top, including this one.. th-cam.com/video/9bXZJKMShTk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=wuyV82MEQhJ8vTpo
Just found your channel researching for a weekend trip to Mark Twain National Park. I am building a 96 XJ overland build and just getting started off-roading/overlanding. Hopefully a 3 in lift and 30 in tires will get me through the trails in the area, as you seemed to not have any troubles.
I'm on 2.25" in the front, sway bar disconnected with the JKS ACOS coil over system and some hockey puck bump stops, rear is just shackled and add a leafed up to 2-2.5", with 30.6" tires, and it does great in Mark Twain NF.
It turned out fantastic! It probably wouldnt have hurt to shot some primer on the bondo area. Either way it looks good!
from all the videos I saw no one seemed to worry about much more than cleaning it, so I just went the same route. What primer would be best?
Nice. Can’t tell at all.
Appreciate it! Thanks for commenting man, it helps get more exposure for my videos..
What does this ‘99 have a distributor ?
Yep, last year, it was a part year of distributor and then coil. Mine is a early 99, built in 8/98.
They have coil packs
@@nathansmith8969 But they also don't.
