I think a lot of people forget how dangerous it is to hike in the dark. A broken ankle In Alaska can end your life 365 days a year. It can freeze or rain on that mountain literally any day of the year. Many people start hikes early in the day for a reason. I've done many stupid things in my life, and frequently nothing bad happens. But Alaska is a different animal.
