I never even thought about this comparison, but you make some very good points. Both Hank & Chuck may appear like lawful "good guys" on the surface, but there are countless moments of: "Hank trying to get a recorded statement from Skyler, to arrest Walt without her having a lawyer present, or Hank trying to prye open the RV with a tire iron, or Hank making some phone calls to his connection in the police, so Marie gets away with shoplifting multiple times." The same goes for Chuck. He looks down on Jimmy for his con artist past, but he too does very questionable & devious things to get back at Jimmy. "Secretly recording him & then letting Ernesto hear it, so he would tell Jimmy & so he would lash out & he could get him arrested" "Punishing Kim, to get back at Jimmy" etc Chuck & Hank also served as the main protagonists moral anchor / higher self of consciousness. Because despite their nagging & coming across as unsympathetic at times, they still wanted to look out for Jimmy & Walt. Both their demise symbolizes the manifestation of both those 2 characters alter egos aka "Saul Goodman" - "Heisenberg". In a way, Chucks & Hanks character arc are polar opposites. At first you feel sorry for Chuck & think hes one of the good guys. As for Hank, he comes across as a typical macho like guy, with a cocky attitude, but as the show progresses, you realize that Chuck was a bitter & manipulative snake all along. While Hank was truly 1 of the few OGs. Subbed

The Edge of Sleep (2024) had some very cool ideas, also it brought the concept of an irl influencer as a protagonist.

Glad someone else seemed to notice the similarities of these two characters. When first watching Better Call Saul two years ago, I remember thinking Chuck McGill is the Hank Schrader of BCS. What really pointed that out for me was that both Hank and Chuck each had an instance where they were right about something but they were dismissed by everyone around them. In Breaking Bad, when Hank suspected Gus Fring was behind the whole meth operation, both Steve Gomez and his superior thought he was "really reaching". And as we know, Hank was right on the money so to say. Similarly in BCS, when Chuck saw the discrepancy in the address for the new Mesa Verde headquarters, he at first thought it was a mistake but then suspected Jimmy was behind it and tampered with the documents. To Chuck's credit, he was right despite having a more extreme reaction!

Hank and Chuck: "The law is sacred!" Uhhh...no it isn't. The rule of law does not exist...except in Nature. That's their hypocritical downfall. And many, MANY others.

I never considered their similar plot roles and attempts to maintain control in this way tbh! My only complaint is that I really don't think Chuck could stand being made fun of. He's often saying "I'M NOT CRAZY" and "I'M GOING TO GET BETTER" and everything to do with distancing his last name from everything Jimmy does. Completely get your thought process on the video though!

I see this as a good thing because it will give the studio more time to perfect the movie

I got what I needed from this series with season 1 as is the case with a lot of netflix shows (looks at stranger things*). Season 2 was fun but derivative. The fact that it's very clearly a single season split into two doesn't help.

I always kinda associated Hank more with Howard Hamlin. Initially unlikable and seemingly out to humiliate and diminish our protagonist, but as the show goes on we realize that not only do they both hold our antiheroes in high regard, but they both literally have their lives ended soon after the disappointment of Walt and Saul showing the full extent of their moral downfall, each leaving behind a grieving widow that underscores the hidden consequences of our antiheroes’ actions.

This is a super cool video and while obviously they are not 1:1 analogues of each other this is totally a decent take. Immediately when I saw this video I thought to myself “damn I don’t know how I never thought of that.” They both play very similar roles in their respective shows and their end goals and general character motivations are incredibly similar. I do think this was intentional by the writers.

Correction: the Dark Knight Rises surpassed INCEPTION by 50 million, making its' budget $250 million, which explains why the Odyssey will have at least the same budget as The Dark Knight Rises. Numbers were never my strong suit and the script got changed in the meantime :D
