I used to collect tubes of discarded chips (literally thrown away in a garbage can) at work many years ago. I've since used a few of them in projects and hope to do more of that in my upcoming retirement. I hope you're able to find a use for them!
@@Enigma758 i have to find out the company logo of the two and then maybe email them.. im not given up! Ill find out and do a project with them😎👍🏾
How to buy this
@@Itsprabh124 they stop selling 2ways about 20 years ago.. i had two of them, loved it! Thanks for watching!
So, instead of a 10k resistor, you used 2 diodes in series linked to +5V, for both your LED displays. I am getting it right? I never seen this trick before. Interesting.
@@q12x thanks for watching😎 The 2 diodes drop the voltage to each display to around 3.6v to prevent damage. I didnt use a resistor because both of the drivers have internal current limiting outputs.
R3, R4 and R5
@@leilanielectronics Interesting, you should have mention this detail in your movie....but...I still don't get why you had to lower the voltage with those diodes ! And what is the output resistance of your driver ? 1k I assume?
@@q12x the displays can only handle around 3.3v, maybe 3.8v max. So the diodes drop the voltage down to a safe level. Again, no need for a resistor because the lm3914 and stp drivers have built in current limiting for the outputs.
@@q12x r3, r4 and r5 set the output current for the displays.
Thanks RS!
😎😎
I still have an old RS bottle of FeCl. I wonder if it still works, will have to try!
@@Enigma758 FeCl? The etching liquid?
@@leilanielectronics Yes, ferric cloride for etching. It's dark brown and if you come in contact with it, it will stain your skin (for awhile).
@@Enigma758 ok, yeah, thats the bottle in the kit.
Had several of those when I was a kid. I also seem to remember a red mini drill too.
@@makerjeff86 i always wonder how many they sold... probably alot..!!
Really awesome!! Thank you

Nice!
Thanks, im almost done with the a.m function😎 Stay tuned!
I have same addiction. I dont want to know how much money I put into this 😅
I got receipts dating back almost 30 years, im afraid to add up😂🤣😅 But i will one day. Its an expensive hobby. Thanks for watching
Would you be so kind to list all the parts you used so that others can replicate this circuit? Also, did you follow any specific guide? Anything you could recommend for further reading? Thanks! :) P.S. On another note, I've subscribed to your channel!
There are 4 appnotes: an383, an388, si47xx programning guide and the an332. The an332 is the one needed and most helpful in getting the radio up and running. The other 3 i skimmed thru for now but should be helpful later, good luck!!
Awesome , thanks!!
@@will85iroc Excuse my ignorance, but what is "appnotes"?
@@mustafaiqbal89most manufacturers have applcation notes (app notes) in addition to the datasheets. They give circuit examples, how to's, programs, etc to help the user get the device running. Silabs has a few for the si4732 that shows antenna set up's, pcb layout and other stuff. The appnote for the programming is a must to get the chip running. Thanks for watching!!
@@mustafaiqbal89i have them all in pdf, if you need a link let me know... but you can search on silab website
Looks like a ton of fun! Really cool circuit. I"ve never thought of making a breadboard radio
This chip does alot! Once im done with the fm, ill test the am, lw and sw then make a permanent pcb with touch screen OLED to control it. Thanks for watching..
Nice setup!
This is only a fraction of what this chip can do! There are 3 app notes that are great and a 188 page programming guide that im sifting thru..
😎😎
Coming soon, giant 4" display!!😎
Im gonna get a station soon!!!😊😅
Now open😎
Whistle while you work!!😎😅😅
Nice clock/displays, how are you limiting the segment current? Normally there is a pile of resistors to do this, or you use a display driver with programmable current levels. I tried looking for these displays online and ended up at Digikey, unfortunately at $23.48 each that kind of kills it for me, hopefully I can find a better price elsewhere. As for the poor colour rendition on your camera, your overloading the poor sensor, you need to attenuate it heaps. as a quick and crude, put a few sheets of copy paper over them, yes you'll lose heaps of resolution/sharpness, but hopefully the colour will be way better in the video.
The stp08 and the stp16 are 8 and 16 channel led drivers. Output current is adjusted by a single resistor. For this circuit current is set at 20ma. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the tip. I got the displays from Adafruit and yes they are a little expensive but they make a cool project!!
😎
Just ordered more parts!!😅😅

Nice artwork and soldering! I like those stp08 drivers, shift registers with constant current output, great for driving LEDs.
The stp's are excellent! Been my goto drivers for years! Thanks for watching.
Program will be posted soon!

Who makes the 7 seg displays shown at the 30s mark?
Glad you asked😎😎im posting a whole video for that circuit this weekend. Its a digital rgb clock and those rgb led's are made by Adafruit. Be sure to visit the site on sunday and download the schematic! Thanks for watching!
