M1 helmet restoration Part 2 - re welding the original bails
มุมมอง 1143 หลายเดือนก่อน
in this video you will see me rewelding the original fix bails to this helmet. this is another video that had no editing and only one take so I apologize for not being in frame and not seeing the welding that good. that being said I rewelded the bails with TIG instead of a spot welder as I did not have access to one

We emptied our wallets once more to buy stuff that's over 80-140 years old. A quick rundown of a gun store bought Yugo 24/47, and 3 Royal Tiger purchases, a M91 Carcano TS, a Steyr 1888/90, and a Vetterli 70/87. RTI availability on the 3 may be out of stock or prices might be outrageous by the time this video is posted.

This bean chucker be Czechoslovakia's Mauser model 98/22, which saw very limited service for it's parent country and I could only find a very limited amount of info on it. *Note: I couldn't find a link to the exact edition of "Mauser Military Rifles of the World" used in this video, sorry.

Taking a peek at a not very common sporting derivative of the Model 1917 rifle. Remington thinking smart in the years after The Great War with trying to use as much tooling and parts from their wartime production.

The "secondary" military rifle for the US in The Great War. One heckin dandy rifle that has all the good stuff for your going over the top into no man's land needs!
Could you tell me if the bayonets are specific to the 98/22 or will other bayonets from other mausers ? I just inherited one its a Turkish 98/22 I’m looking for a bayonet
Most Mauser bayonet are similar. The big difference is muzzle ring and if there is a hole for the cleaning rod. - P
This is so underrated
American restoration?🤔 Jman
Not a broject?🤣 Brassin?😳 Jman
Had one. Sold it to a friend. Would like to have it back. I can't say why but i liked it better than my pre 64 mod 70. Was just a cool rifle.

Hey bevis & butt head 🤣 funny video. Remington Rand & Ithaca were actually made by Colt and shipped to their perspective factories for assembly. I own both. There's a recent article in American Gunner about the rarest 1911 made by North American arms. The factory was in Canada not many made and not many exist
Well I guess that’s next on Pats list to acquire after he sells all his belongings to afford it. -N

Good morning papas
Best Rifle WW1 🤔
i found a Remington made 1917 sporter that turned out to be an action up custom rifle. i bought it for 199$!
Does it have all the U.S. stamps or does it have model 30 on it? -N
@@SurplusBoysChannel it is not a model 30, it was a gov built rifle in the low 60k serial range made in feb 1918. it shoots fantastic. i
Oooo nice, that’s actually the same price I bought the model 30 for. -N
I polished my Mosin-Nagant bolt and receiver , and keep it clean and lubed. It’s a fine as any Mosin out there. A Finnish sniper would love my Mosin. That said, not quite as smooth as my VZ 98/22…. Which I gave the same sort of love. Not even sure how fair the comparison is really. I shot a really well done Enfield, that was like churning butter. I shot a bad one, and it was poorly maintained crap. I agree on Enfield being the smoothest bolt action gun you can buy as surplus.
Rearward locking lugs for the win on smoothness. -N
Part 3 soon please
Yeah c’mon Pat! Part 3! -N
My hope is it will be soon -P
No need to pull stripper clip! Closing bolt removes it.
True that. In the flow of trying to remember what to say during filming we completely forgot to yeet that clip into the next dimension. -N
new sub here......nice review of the Model of 1917...cheers from an old fart in Orlando, Paul...and owner of a 1917 Winchester U.S. Model of 1917, unfortunately Sporterized by me in 1968 when I was a young lad.....but very well done....I must say...
@ypaulbrown minus points for sporterizing it BUT plus points for realizing the beauty of the stock rifle and at least doing it well. -N
That’s awesome, I plan to get this rifle from RTI soon and I wonder where I can get the bayonet for it. It makes it look nice as hell.
@thatradioboy RTI should still have some bayonets in stock, I have 2 from them. They do tend to have wider muzzle rings from use. I want to get a video out about repairing them one of these days. -Nick
😅 nice share
The 70/87 is a fun rifle and love the caliber, the 88/90 though stole my heart
@ texascastblast5011 Hey wait a minute, I learned about reloading 8x50 from your video about a year ago! -N
@@SurplusBoysChannel oh cool man, hope it helps with your M88/90 Ive made some slight changes to my reloading method but I’ll be sure to post someday
@texascastblast5011 yeah look forward to watching it. One day we’re gonna try to get some reloading stuff out but still trying to make sure we won’t get flagged with that TH-cam “manufacturing” ammo policy.
@@SurplusBoysChannel yeah I don’t those rules but I’ll still post just to help people, I also plan on doing 11x59 Gras and 10.4x47 Vetterli. I’ve made a really good load for the Vetterli TS that I plan on doing a hunting video with
@texascastblast5011 sweet, I just got one of those 70/87 TS. Putting out a good 10.4x47 vid is definitely needed, not much info to be found.
Always liked them, but focused on collecting byf K98ks instead. 🤠
Short rifles are cool but overly long barrels I just have a soft spot for. -N
2:38 should be walnut.
Red oak too, allegedly but rarely used. Maybe yours is red oak.
Yeah, I’m not too well versed in different woods but I thought walnut would have a tighter grain and also be darker. -N
The battle sight was for 400 yard targets, the ladder sight is adjustable from 100 yards to 1600 yards. According to the 1914 / 1917 handbook 1,235,298 P14 s were made and 2,193,429 U.S. Rifle .30 Model 1917 s were produced.
The one bad thing about Great War rifles is those battle sights being set for those distances. Makes people think the guns are inaccurate and they end up changing the sight when sporterized. -N
British design, American Made and Greatly Improved.
Work on my helmet and by my helmet i mean my peanits
Hell yea dads are back
I want one of those 88/90s quite badly, been kind of aprihensive abput the RTI ones though, cant find them anywhere else though.
Yeah that’s how I was with it as well but for the price even with the hand select it is worth it. I have cleaned that gun since filming the video and it’s quite nice. -N
@@SurplusBoysChannel maybe itll have to be my next investment, Its very high on the list of rifles I want
@nickel5081 one thing to note with the 88/90 is the ammo, they are 8x50r austrian so finding it is nearly impossible and if you do it'll be quite expensive. Like we said though reloading for it is not that difficult if your willing. One day we'll make a video about that but we have to be very careful as to not get flagged by youtube about reloading. -N
@@SurplusBoysChannel Yeah I gotcha, I'm not in the best position to reload, as Ive not really got the space, however I feel like having the rifle would be enough to satisfy me for a while lol. I do have a friend who is fairly good at making reloading materials though so maybe hed be able to help me out
Very nice purchases fellas! Look forward to the individual reviews on them 👍
Slowly but surely, the yugo 24/47 will be out relatively soon.
Theyre great rifles. I have two and hope to have the parts accumulated to put together a third soon. By the way the VZ24 is a large ring Mauser, not small. I thought I heard you say it was small ring towards the beginning of the video.
Thanks for the correction, yeah some small details we’ll get wrong here and there.
Nice rifle , one I do not have yet . I do have a 1937 Vz24 , Chinese contract rifle
Well I guess that’s the next one on the list, right? -N
A good Ole 1 am upload from the dads
Great vid guys. Keep them coming. Just acquired one of these myself M1917
Thanks, we’re trying to keep things flowing as best we can. What manufacturer is the 1917? -N
@@SurplusBoysChannel I think your channel will grow fellas. It’s a Eddystone across the pond in uk 😉
Following. Ill be curious to see if those bales can be salvaged.
Hopefully part 2 will be out this week as I have not had a lot of time focus on this project- P
When are you guys gonna review the ptrs 41
In good time dade
You need to create a way to project a silhouette of war scenes on the sheet plastic while filming your videos. Tanks moving behind you, soldiers marching. Battleships firing cannons. Airplane dog fights, etc. Turn the lights off behind the plastic and see if projecting images can be seen clearly on the viewing side. Cool idea. Beautiful rifle. I know where one is, but the LGS wants one and a half K.
We’ll get there, getting a better background is on the agenda. Never thought of projecting on it though. Also the price tag for that M1917 sounds about right in today’s market. -N
Power test please for 1911 and tt pistol
We do plan on doing one in the future. Unfortunately at the moment we don't have the time to get out to the range - P
Keep it for the next 40 or 50 years The price will skyrocket
Для должного эффекта нужно было шмальнуть в потолок...!!!😂😂😂😂😂
What kind of front sight is that?
The front sight on this rifle is of one from the original m1891 3-line rifles of imperial Russia and before the 91/30 update.
I’m Romanian American but unfortunately I’m also an Upstate New Yorker, and sadly don’t have a CCL. Glad to see you brothers enjoying it though. Closest I could get is my VZ24 Romanian contract Soviet capture from the battle of Stalingrad, in which coincidentally, I lost two uncles in. Mia. Bodies never found.
Well it’s better upstate than down in NYC for us gun owners. VZ24s are nice, I have the 98/22 which was the gun the vz24 replaced for the Czechs. Also were your uncles with the 3rd and 4th armies on the axis side? -N
Just subbed to you boys. Let’s make this channel grow!!
I have a very tasteful and very early sporterization of a U.S. Mod. of 1917. All Winchester.
Hey thanks for believing in us my man. Super jelly on the Winchester m1917, big Winchester fanboy over here -N
I also have an all Winchester U.S. Model of 1917 sporteriaed in 1968 by me.... with Walnut Fajen stock and Bausch and Lomb 3x9 scope with Williams iron sights..... and Williams scope mounts
I have a heavily sporterised M1917 Eddystone,, action bedded, floated Shilen single taper barrel, Timney trigger shimmed and reground sears, solid bedded mount for an 8-32 scope, 50's sporterised stock and chrome bluing. The actions get a plum type blue due to the nickel. best group so far is 5 shots in .313" at 100yards. Love my rifle
Remington model dad
You betta believe it dade, Pop Pop gonna be a recurring character I think
Excellent video... Unfortunately, the Romanian version and about every other variant of the Tokarev pistol are becoming difficult to find! Although ammunition is not too hard to find, it's a great cartridge to reload. It's possible to load s 90 grain bullet to a blistering 1,800 fps, according to the Hornady reloading manual.
That sounds pretty nuts for a tokarev, I reload for some oddball cartridges but not 7.62x25. I’d imagine that velocity would push the recoil spring and falling link hard. -N
Nice
