    I caught my first trout (fly fishing) on this fly! I only had one fly and couldn't find it in books or anywhere, eventually , many trout later the fly fell apart. I was devastated, and a Zulu just didn't cut the mustard. Thank you for this video.

    I believe this is an old David McPhail video from years ago. I recognize the voice and some of the fly tying habits. He is much more skilled now!

    • @gamefishingscotland2366
      @gamefishingscotland2366 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm afraid it's not Davie McPhail doing the tying though I have watched a lot of his videos and I'm sure that's apparent in my tying. I'm no expert but the salmon don't seem to bother too much! Tight lines when you get out after the lockdown is lifted.

    • @mikelundrigan2285
      @mikelundrigan2285 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      GameFishingScotland Not being a Scot, I guess the accent fooled me! Not to imply the fly was not decently made! Where I am, we can still fish for sea trout, (Newfoundland, across the pond)! Fishing has not been cancelled here yet! Not very hard to stay six feet apart here! Hope things improve and you are able to wet a line soon! Stay safe!

    • @gamefishingscotland2366
      @gamefishingscotland2366 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Mike. I think Davie McPail is from Glasgow and I am too so accents will likely sound very similar. Must be some amazing fishing in Newfoundland!

    • @mikelundrigan2285
      @mikelundrigan2285 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      GameFishingScotland We have accents here too and are sometimes misidentified as Irish. I was when I moved away many years ago! We fish for A Salmon, Brook Trout, land locked salmon, brown , rainbow, sea run brown and brook trout on the island. Decent for sure! Tight lines! 7

    Nice fly basicly a zulu with the red on the hook rather than a tail,just think you put far too much dubbing on it

    • @gamefishingscotland2366
      @gamefishingscotland2366 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes but the Zulu has a palmered hackle whereas this is just a few turns of the hackle at the top. So the zulu seems to sit higher in the water. And on the dubbing point, it needs a lot of dubbing because it's so deadly it gets ripped and ravaged to pieces, more dubbing means it lasts a little longer 😂😂

    In case you're interested this was created by my dad, many years ago. The Arrow in the name came from the lake he first used it on. Trout and Salmon had an article on it some time afterwards and gave away a sample of the fly.

    • @gamefishingscotland2366
      @gamefishingscotland2366 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's really cool. I rarely hear anything about it and have never heard that. I always thought it was an Irish fly, would that be right? It's one of the best flies around without a shadow of a doubt and the mad thing is how few people know about it. It works for all kinds of fish, in both rivers and lochs and all over Scotland where I've tried it.

    • @declanhiggins5841
      @declanhiggins5841 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gamefishingscotland2366 Yes it is from Ireland. My dad Syl Higgins used to tie his own flies at home. He was the national fly fishing champion twice. He represented Ireland too in an international in Scotland many moons ago. If I can find the article I mentioned I'll post it here.

      alright man apologies for the late response here. The yellow hackle is just off a yellow chinese cock cape #1. I bought it ages ago from the Glasgow Angling Centre. Nothing Fancy. The orange hackle is off a Whiting American Saddle cape. Significantly better but a lot more expensive too. A orange and red version of the whiting capes would be ideal in my opinion.
