Kayaking to Turnip Rock in Lake Huron
มุมมอง 934 หลายเดือนก่อน
I set out before sunrise and spend a calm day on the waters of Lake Huron paddling my kayak from Port Austin to Turnip Rock and the Port Austin Lighthouse. This is a trip I've wanted to do for a long time now and the experience has been one of my favorite Michigan adventures. This trip is ideal in calm waters as the round trip for me ended up being almost 9 miles if you include a trip out to th...

Unexpected Aurora Event While Watching & Capturing the Perseid Meteor Shower
มุมมอง 525 หลายเดือนก่อน
On the evening of August 11 I headed out to the lake to spend the night watching the Perseid meteor shower. I knew there was a chance for Aurora and had my hopes set that I could see and capture the northern lights as well. To my surprise, the universe (and the sun) gifted us with an amazing celestial event! It lasted almost all night and I stayed up until 3am in awe of the scene around me. At ...

I've been on the golden gate pedestrian path while the bridge swayed in the wind. It was like the bridge was saying, "is that all you got"

Same here. When I lived there, I rode my bike across to Marin Headlands a lot. If the bike path was open on the west side of the bridge, there'd be times where it was so windy, I'd have to walk my bike around the support towers since the wind was the strongest there.

This was the most validating video to watch. People that have not seen one just can’t understand why I can’t stop talking about it. We had just over three minutes in Evansville… totally going to watch again. We plan to watch somewhere in our home state, Alabama during the 2045 eclipse. I would love to travel to see one before. Just like everyone says, pictures and video just don’t catch it. It was indescribably magnificent. Thank you for sharing… yes I watched every minute of this video. I’m going to check out that podcast.

I've spoken with a few people who didn't know that there's a big difference between partial and total. Even 99% and 100% is so different. Hopefully stories like ours can help inspire people to see the next one whenever they are able.

Yes there are bridges now that are bigger, taller and longer than ever before, but it was this bridge that set the bar on just how massive these types of bridges can be. Therefore the Golden Gate Bridge will always be number one in my book.

I remember during the 80s when the Golden Gate had to be shut down because it was swaying, Swaying noticeably. The local news set up cameras at both ends of the bridge showing the roadway undulating and rolling up and down.... strangest thing I've ever seen there. I have yet to find any footage of that....

I didn‘t see it at first. But you need to focus on the red painted light „line“ that builds a bow between the big pylon in the front and the one in the back. You can see the sides of the bridge swinging up and down pretty fast! Looking into the middle of the pavement didn‘t make me see it (as someone else told to do). Liked! Unfortunately a lot of people nowadays have the attention and the observation skills span of a fish.

  • @stevebulota4687

Back in 1987, when the bridge turned 50, there were so many pedestrians walking across that the main span actually flattened out. Engineers did some calculating and said there was no danger.

But lets also pay tribute to the simple people and construction workers who worked their asses off to place this giant beauty safely where it sits today👍
