This is not the Brussels subway. It's the tram, which has some underground (premetro) metro-like stations

Unfortunately, you visited the downtown area. Although a party & arts district, it's not the best part of the city. The main street that runs entirely through the middle of the city is 18th Avenue. Rock Island has definitely seen better days.
