Skipping Half Dome to go backpacking to Cloud's Rest in Yosemite
We went backpacking to Cloud's Rest in Yosemite, California in April of 2022. It was mid-spring when we hiked and ice was melting, giving us many running springs along the hike. Along the Mist Trail, the sound of the rushing water from the Merced River was therapeutic. We saw wildlife on the trail. Further up, the booming sound of Vernal Falls, it's size and power were overwhelming. The wind and mist from the cascading water got us completely wet. After Vernal Falls, we reached Liberty Cap and walked through a little patch of forest before reaching another cascading rush of water - Nevada Falls. The view from above Nevada Falls showed us Yosemite Valley. Then we hit John Muir Trail as we headed into little Yosemite Valley were we set-up camp for the night at Little Yosemite Campground. From here, it was a 5.5 mile hike to Cloud's Rest.
While more people flock to the more popular Half Dome, we think that the view from Cloud's rest is even more spectacular!

มุมมอง 4.2K2 ปีที่แล้ว

It was the first time all three of will be together in one trip. We were choosing between Big Sur and Sequioa but because of weather conditions, we decided to go to Big Sur. There are a number of camp sites in Big Sur - those that ar...
Relaxing hike in Chino Hills State Park
มุมมอง 1.1K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Chino Hills State Park is located at the foothills of the Santa Ana mountains in the city of Chino in California. With its close proximity to the city center, this park is a convenient go-to place for impromptu hikes and exploration. This is the only location within the LA basin where you can get scenic vistas and do recreational activities like hike, bike, or ride a horse. It is considered a c...
Mountain biking in Oats Peak, Montaña de Oro State Park
มุมมอง 4292 ปีที่แล้ว
Oats Peak is a 10-mile round trip trail located just outside of Los Osos, California. The trail can be used for both hiking and mountain biking with views of the Pacific Ocean on the descent. Montaña De Oro State Park or "Mountain of Gold" gets its name from the golden wildflowers that bloom in the park during spring time. There are also poppies, California's state flower that dots the landscap...
Hiking to the Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes in Death Valley
มุมมอง 8672 ปีที่แล้ว
Hiking the Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes in Death Valley National Park is not like our usual mountain hike. There are no established trails due to the ever-shifting sands. There is no canyon to go through. There is no hiking elevation. The highest elevation on the sand dunes is 100 ft from the desert floor. It may seam like an easy hike. But walking on sand exposed to the elements does add a little ...
Hiking to the Natural Bridge in Death Valley National Park
มุมมอง 7722 ปีที่แล้ว
We went on a short trip and hiked to the Natural Bridge in Death Valley National Park. We drove down Natural Bridge Road, a 1.5 mile, well maintained dirt road that leads you to a parking space at the trailhead. Going into the Natural Bridge Canyon, you get a glimpse of the rich geologic and historic past of this region. We hiked the Natural Bridge Trail in February and experienced temperatures...
Hiking to Switzer Falls via the Gabrielino Trail
มุมมอง 2K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Hiking to Switzer Falls in the Los Angles Forest gave us a good view of the San Gabriel Mountains and a refreshing trek along the Arroyo Seco River. The trickling of the stream, birds chirping and wind howling were sounds that kept us company throughout the 4-mile loop hike via the Gabrielino Trail. When going to Switzer Falls Trailhead, make sure to drive all the way down to the parking lot by...
Getting to Sykes Hot Springs via Pine Ridge Trail
มุมมอง 4.1K2 ปีที่แล้ว
We went on a 19-mile, 2-day backpacking hike on the Pine Ridge Trail in Big Sur, California in the Ventana Wilderness to get to Sykes Hot Springs. Along the trail, we saw coast redwood trees, the Big Sur River Gorge, the Santa Lucia mountains, and numerous creeks. We stayed overnight at the Sykes camp, deep in the canyon and set up camp beside the river. Sykes Hot Springs via Pine Ridge Trail: ...
Solo Hiking Ice House Canyon

Solo hiking on Ice House Canyon Trail on Mt. Baldy in the Cucamonga Wilderness located in San Bernardino County, California in February. Soak up the mountain views and relax in the symphony of the birds chirping, the burbling water stream, the snow crunch and the whooshing wind breeze. Fantastic video , fantastic day and hike! you was able to show it well. What did you film on?
This is everything you need in life
Such a beautiful and well-made hiking video! Looking forward to seeing more of your outdoor adventures 🙏
Great video!
Great video! Thank you for sharing. So if you were alone, that was a very long hike, setting up the camera, hiking a little, turning around to pick up the camera, and then on to the next shoot.
It's very sad what this campground has become since the landslide. The management company that runs it has let it degrade almost to the point of no return. The forest service should definitely do something about it.
There used to be 3 tubs but the rivers that went through Sykes washed out the 3rd biggest hot tub, it was right next to the river and was 4 feet deep, and 8 feet across, it was amazingly awesome. Thanks for showing how it looks now, I’ve not been since 2016, but it’s still looking as beautiful as ever, great video. Shalom
Ive been up here but had a hard time finding the campground taking the left trail.
I love this trail I have hiked it many times but I’ve only gotten up to the saddle one time. It’s extremely beautiful and I am hiking it again with my dad this weekend
That's awesome you hear, the weather is beautiful this time of year!
I liked your vid. Many people do this hike solo. I did it in May of 1970 when I was about 25 with one other guy. I was in my 1967 VW Bug. I remember the trails were pretty good. The trip in was the toughest because of all the uphill. We got a late start and camped the first night a little over halfway in. We just slept out in our bags and I used my pack for a pillow. About 3am I felt some rustling and it was a raccoon with his paw inside my pack under my head tearing apart a ham sandwich I had wrapped in foil. He didn't get much. We had brought collapsible fishing poles and caught rainbow trout in the streams and Big Sur River near Sykes Camp as the streams and creeks were still flowing pretty good. I remember how much I liked day hiking all over the place with only my canteen. We stayed for about 3 days and the hot spring was really a nice gift to appreciate. It was flowing right out of the base of a big redwood tree like magic. Some solo and group ladies were there and everybody was in the buff but all friendly. We took some mushrooms we had with us in this very lovely, beautiful place. Now in my 70s, I don't think I could do that hike today. And, I'm sure it's overrun with hikers nowadays. But, I recommend it if you're up to it. One of my life's best remembrances.
Incense Cedars are my favorite besides Redwooods. Lovely nature film! Well done.
Beautiful video of Icehouse Canyon!
I'm really impressed with this video, just beautiful. I hope to visit this trail.
Thank you! It's definitely beautiful in the springtime
You are good for video editing! Where do you get your background music?
Thanks! We find a lot of our music on freemusicarchive.org
Very nice video. What type of camera are you using?
Thanks! We use a Sony A7 III and Canon 24-105mm for documenting our adventures
I love these videos of Ice House Canyon and Mount Baldy ! I use to live in these places growing up back in the 1950’s. It was so beautiful then and it is so encouraging to see it still is in spite of fires and bad drought in past years.
That's amazing! Mount Baldy is a beautiful area and it's great to see it continue to be a place for generations of people to enjoy :)
We were there last Tuesday. The wind was fierce. The kind of kind that can take your breath away. Easy walk but I wish I had had my hiking pole because the ground was very loose sand in many areas. Very pretty and majestic canyon
Thais for sharing...by the way what’s the name brand of your hiking shoes? They look super comfortable.
They are Danner Mountain 600 boots! They're a bit on the heavier side but are comfortable and have been holding up well for years.
Thanks for sharing ✔️
Beautiful calm video❤️ nicely done
Do you take the same trail to get up before your descent? How long would you anticipate the climb to take?
You do that's a out and back. 5 mile climb. 1 1/2 hr s depending on your stamina and maybe you gears.
AMAZING VIDEO GUYS, WHERE DO YOU PARK?
An epic climb for sure, nice job shooting it. As a newer adventure filmmaker it's cool to see someone else's work so thanks for sharing. Yosemite is the best.
I've been trying to book this campsite but 022 and it seems like it gets reserved to fast not even a weekday is available.
We went there on a first come first serve basis. Try and be at the “gate” of the campsite before 2pm so that you are in front of the line for slots that are available for walk-ins.

Awesome location in Death Valley National Park. Nice to explore again via your video!
Beautiful, relaxing video! I sure love this trail. I'm curious--what camera did you use to film this lovely footage?
Most of this episode was actually filmed on an iPhone 11!

Great video! Thank you for sharing 🥾🥾
Great video! How early did you have to get there for the First come First serve campsite?
You have to be there at 2pm to try and get one of the first come first serve sites because that is the time they open it. Check out is at 11am. Hope this helps!
@@outthererec9151 wow you're lucky to get one.. it's always booked.. didnt even know there was FCFS site

We’re sure it will be even more beautiful here when there are more blooms!
Very nice, I will be there one day 👍!
do you need permit to be out in the wilderness?
Hi Joseph! There is no need for a permit to be out in the Ventana Wilderness where Sykes Hot Springs is in. But it is best to check the Ventana wilderness site when planning your trip for any changes in their regulations and know the current conditions. :)
Beautiful!!
This channel is soooo good
awesome photos! when you stay over night how do you find your way back?
Thanks! It was pretty dark even with flashlights while we were there at night but thankfully the mountain range to the south helped point us back in the right direction :)
@@outthererec9151 cool info thank you very much!
