Hmong American New Year

Hmong American New Year held every year in November at the Minnesota State Fair Grounds in Saint Paul, MN. A place where the community can celebrate the Hmong cultures, clothes, arts and talents. Hmong American New Year (also known as Hmong American Inc.) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the Hmong community.

Truly an amazing dance. Silver Skies has been the team to beat since 2019. 1st place Wins, after wins, after wins. This is the product of drama free girls, who work as a team!

Is this even Hmong dancing anymore? This is something they should bring to the X Factor or something. Not a HMONG dance competition. I understand it’s freestyle but how do you even consider this being Hmong dancing. At this point, this is in between contemporary and Chinese dancing not Hmong dancing. The dance is great though! Mulan always catches my attention 🤗

The choreography is good and costumes are beautiful. But honestly dances like these are not consider Hmong dancing. These kinds of dances are more for showmanship. Hmong are starting to pull away from their real root of traditional. I understand we live in the 21st century but we need remember where we came from. I personally think these kinds of dances should not be in competition.

Only one I enjoyed watching besides the cute little girls. THIS is how you Hmong dance. I am NOT a fan of the swaying and robotic dance moves. Not cute. This is how Hmong dancing is supposed to be like. Smooth with nice pretty hands and movements.

Soooo beautiful & welllllll done! Loved everything about this dance. Synchronization is SO ON POINT, song choice is great and choreography is simple but still so unique and beautiful!!! All moves go with all the loud, soft, and background beats. Wonderful job silver skies!
