Down here in Florida it’s just too warm to grow pansies. When I lived in North Carolina I used to enjoy them great winter spring flower
I’m new to your channel and have never started vinca or pansies from seed but would like to. Thank for your video on how to. 🦋💕
Welcome to the channel! starting seeds isn't nearly as fun as planting flowers in the garden, but it gives us something to look forward to!!
Only took 90 seconds for cats to move into that box. Hilarious! Cant wait to see how that hemlock dies in your garden you are really building up quite a collection of plants for your outside garden
You know it...It cracks me up how Pickle and Pumpkin can be in a deep sleep and wake up as soon as a box appears!
Congratulations on your you tube channel, I’m thinking of starting my own , I currently have over 400 Japanese maples in my garden and many other trees and plants , I just subscribed nice to meet you
Wow! That is a lot of Japanese maples! You should definitely start a channel! It is a lot of fun and a great way to document what is going on in the garden!
Love this video
You have my appreciation for educating us and the clarity ❤❤❤
All those cuttings that you put in that bucket. Make them into six to eight inch cuttings. Stick them in the ground and you can grow more.
Great plant provide color in late fall through winter depending on variety. Plus they have nice deep green leaves making it a great shrub rest of year. I have a couple that are mature about 5’ high and wide.
It's pretty chilly out there! -12C (10.4F) here in southern Ontario.
Wow! What growing zone are you in?
@@TheGardenMouse Officially, it's 6b. I'm on Lake Ontario, which has a moderating effect on the temperature.
Would you believe we will be having a record snowfall along panhandle of Florida I live near Pensacola and going to get 3-5” of snow Tuesday temp over next 5 nights temps down 22-28 F so I have a real challenge with my tropical plants. It’s never snowed more than 2” where I live once last time was 11 years ago
Wow! I don't think your plants are going to like that much! We woke up to about 4 inches of snow. It is beautiful...but our plants aren't tropical! Good luck. Let me know how you make out!
Congratulations! Seems magical, doesn't it.
It's pretty exciting to see them sprout!
Think the cats were more excited to see the plants than you were. Put a couple of pillows in that box and they would never get out. That bark is very interesting
They are always curious! I think I'll use the cats as an excuse to order more though....If I'm getting plants for them, I can't help but order more!
I do pretty much the same. Love my day lilies!
I'm looking forward to following their progress. Those star geraniums are gorgeous!
Thank you! I'm excited about them, too!
Those are really neat lil winter interest shrubs! Makes sense to choose interesting types from fave vendor! Glad you’re feeling better!
That vendor always seems to ship things to arrive in great shape always love seeing cats and the antics they are up to makes it more entertaining
I saw your garden at Up North Garden w/Cory! I'm in the same video at 4:20.
Ahhh! I LOVE your planters, and the garden behind them looks AMAZING!! I haven't grown El Brighto, yet, but I think I will this year!
@@TheGardenMouse I was super pleased with them. It was my first time growing Bidens too and they bloomed continuously from May to November! They made a great pair.
@@maureenmccrackin6933 And the pictures of our planters are right next to each other for the thumbnail! So awesome!!
@@TheGardenMouse I didn't even notice that! I was just so shocked to see my photo. I had totally forgotten that I'd sent it in.
Merry Christmas and thank you for sharing!🎄
Its lovely to watch this in the USA. I live in Albrighton where David Austin is based and from. I take for granted walking round the corner to see the roses and bring them home! We just got this one in memory of my grandma who passed. I feel happy to have this in a container so it can be moved with us where we go xc
Merry Christmas 🎄🎁
Thanks! Very nice collection. Enjoyed learning about the Swedish tradition.
That’s such a fun experiment! My husband found little plug-in plant lights on Amazon and I have 5 or 7 and divided my Boston ish fern and really enjoy them so far. I still have a red geranium hanging on in cold bay window.! Those little trees are really cute. I will take a look! Even after .Christmas sales!
Thanks for showing your special Tomten collection! Their super sweet! I have a little wooden Swedish horse with the flag on bottom somewhere. I have a few tiny Christmas wooden carved figures. Snowman, a cat, Santa and a wizard with cat that’s as small as my petite fingertip so that wood carving is an amazing ability! Found at a Christmas.bazaar so many years ago in Burrillville or Smithfield, R.I.
Thanks for the great video. I was wondering how much sun you give the tree, and how well the plant looks this year. Also, do the leaves tend to stay red all summer?
Hi! It looked great this year! You would never know it was in tough conditionat the beginning. Yes, the leaves stay red all summer. They seemed to get a darker red mid summer. Then the fall color is a real bright color. Mine is planted under the tall canopy of an oak tree, so it is in quite a bit of shade, but is still going strong! I would say it mainly gets indirect light except for a couple hours of pretty good sun in the morning. I am very happy with it and highly recommend!
@@TheGardenMouse Thanks for your help, and have a great holiday season!
@@rjayt88 You, too!
Delightful! Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas to you, too!
When it comes time to water, do you do a deep water? Or do you just do a little shower? Also, What happened to your winter flame!?
I give them one cup of water once a month...so very little. Wow...Great memory about the Winter Flame! The Winter Flame overwintered in the shed last winter. In the spring, I planted it in the ground. Unfortunately, I put it in a place that did not have good enough drainage and it got root rot. I lost that one and Green Twinkles. :-( I have replaced Green Twinkles, have it in a grow bag, and it is doing great. I haven't gotten ahold of another Winter Flame, yet, but hopefully will soon!
I put mine in one of the plastic sheds. I don't have a garage, and my basement is too warm. Is that okay?
That should be good...It will give them protection from the wind.
@@TheGardenMouse Thank you!
I forgot to apply Wilt-stop to my new arborvitae, we just had a bad wind storm near Chicago on 12/4. Can I still apply it to prevent further moisture loss?
Yes, just make sure temperatures are above freezing when you apply it and stay above freezing for about 3 hours afterward.
Love it. Every year I grab few and every year lose some too..I am in zone 8b North Texas, practically we cannot grow this outdoor, we get one or 2 hard freeze every year and that kills the plant.I got 2 from Trader Joe's and some bigger ones from clearance in Lowes , those from Lowes lost the shape so I made topiary out of it. You are so right about the price..the small topiary ones are 35$ in nurseries.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who they don't overwinter well outdoors for! They are worth getting new ones when needed!
I put my macrophyllas in the garage a couple weeks ago (I'm a novice) and they still have leaves. The leaves are spotted and purple. I hope I didn't put them in the garage too soon. I'm in zone 6b SE MI.
You should be ok. You'll have some leaf clean up to do in the spring. The most important thing to do is not take them out too early in the spring. I really wait until May 1st. It seems like that is late, but it isn't.
What a great idea and cost savings! Amazing how they charge a fortune for certain things but then if it’s in another application it’s cheaper. Noticed they do that with plastic black round storage containers for under $10 at Walmart & Home Depot but then charge $25 for similiar size & shape container in garden center. Again love those little bushes might try to find some myself for pls tees next year
Thanks! I love a bargain!
Beautiful! All your decos are just amazing nice job.
LOVE those red urns ❤
Brilliant!!! They look so nice not wrapped up!
Thanks! I was surprised how easily they bounced back into shape!
I like it all! The snowmen, tree, doormat! Festive Nd bright!
I really appreciate all your positive comments! 🙂
Very beautiful 😍 !! I love it 🥰 !! Happy holidays to you and your family 😊🎄🎅🤶💖 .
Thank you!!
@@TheGardenMouseYw 😊💖.
Wow, that is stunning. The eye loves detail and pretty colors.
You’re such a clever girl! Outstanding! I did something on a smaller scale unexpectedly. There were Birch logs stacked in a set 3, tied with tan roping and pine cones , red ribbon and I might just lay in top my rectangular planters by door with lights.
That sounds like a great idea!

I have 2 new hydrangeas in pots and the ground is pretty much froze so I was worried about over Wintering them in pots - video was very helpful!
Garden Mouse, I am subscribed, but your videos never come into my feed! What am I doing wrong?😢
I'm sorry to hear that...How weird! You could check that your notifications are on. Just click on the little "down arrow" next the word "subscribe" under the video. You should then click on the "all" bell. That will notify you when I post something new. Otherwise, I'm not sure!
Love this idea!
Thank you!
That conifer planter does is festive and well placed!
Thanks so much!
I have been pruning my Rose of Sharon trees for 27 years I do it every other year . 🤔🌺🌲🌺🤔 All of my trees are 18 to 20 feet tall. 🙂 The rose of Sharon comes from the Hibiscus family and has a high amount of vitamin C . 🙂🌺🌲🌺🙂 The Rose of Sharon is edible and medical from its leaves and its flowers and its young seed pods. 🤔😃🤔 The rose of Sharon grows quickly and spreads quickly as well . 🙂🌲🌺🌲🙂 I dry the Young leaves and the flowers and make tea out of it. ☕🌿🌺🌿☕ It is wonderful for sore throats. 🤔 It is wonderful for urinary tract infections . 🤔 It is good for high blood pressure and high cholesterol and diabetes . 🤔 The rose of Sharon is beautiful and many insects love the flower 🌺 like the bumble bees and butterflies and hummingbirds . 🙂🌺🙂 God bless the American people . 🙏🇺🇲🙏
Thank you for sharing. Yes, some varieties of Rose of Sharon get HUGE! I'm glad this is a tpe that stays on the small side. Proven Winners has a new type that stays very columnar.
What’s the secret to have all Hydrangea leaves green and healthy? Is it ok to dead head down to the stems where I can see new couple of buds?
Yes, you are fine to seadhead them to the next couple buds. I find they need tons of water to stay green and not too much sun which will brown the leaf edges.
@ thanks!
I just purchased rose of Sharon in pots from Home Depot. Yes, they were clearance because of the season. It looks dormant for the most part with a few unopened blooms. I live in Tennessee and it’s about to get very cold probably in the next couple of weeks. How do I overwinter this Rose of Sharon in the pot? Do I cover it and leave it inside the garage? Do I cover it and leave it outside where it could possibly get rained and snowed on? Or do I not cover it at all? Thanks
How exciting! When they are fully dormant and have dropped all their leaves, they really don't need much water. They are also pretty hardy. Either way should work. If you leave outside, I would put close to the house so they have a bit of shelter. You'll need to make sure they drain well so the roots don't rot. If you bring into unheated garage, I would wait until they are fully dormant. It is ok to wait until they drop leaves because they bloom on next year's growth anyway. For me, they usually do that by Dec 1st. Then, I would give about a cup of water each month to them. Hope that helps!
Thanks so much! Your videos are awesome!
Fall 2024, weather is unusually warm. Lucky for us gardeners who still have work to do outside😂. My macrophylla hydrangeas are still blooming with big healthy leaves. I'm in zone 6b. I think December 1st will come and go and the mac hydrangea will still be partying 🎉
That was great! I really love these blue conifers! Those will be fun to add whatever Christmas decorations to! Wow! I think I wouldn’t have any problem having a conifer in bigger pots and adding smaller seasonal plants around them . Because winter is usually that time of year there’s no point in looking at the planters outside 😢lol.
I really love that Biltmore Blue! Quite memorable. I love how it has not too many branches but those long needles! Gorgeous!
