Roamin' Around With Roman!
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 14 ก.พ. 2017
Thanks for visiting my channel, my name is Roman Stelter, I photograph railroad action in Southern Wisconsin, as well as other surrounding states when I get a chance.
I have two running series on youtube, the most popular "WSOR Compilations" are a collage of Wisconsin Southern Railroad action. In these videos you'll see almost all of Wisconsin Southern's branch and mainlines on both the Northern and Southern Divisions. The second and newest is "Shootin' Shortlines With Roman" is meant to showcase various shorelines across the midwest (Excluding WSOR) and is definitely worth viewing.
If you are interested in a collaboration shoot me an email, I'm always open to the idea, and I'm looking for more ways to expand my photography and videography!
Hope you enjoy my channel, and if you have any advice please let me know! Thanks for sticking around! - Roman

LAST TRAIN EVER... On The AC Belt
"One Last Breath"
Onlookers and photographers watch as the UP Marsh Job makes its way down the "AC Belt" spur for the last time. The AC Belt is a mile long spur that was once served by both C&NW and CMSTP&P, it has sat dormant, along with a passenger car at the end of the spur for many years.
May 3rd of 2024, UP made the trip to pick up the passenger car, I counted 7 other railfans, along with employees from the industrial park watching the show. As they shoved the car back down to the mainline, they shined up the rails one last time. It is rumored the UP has permission to abandon all crossings on the belt, so it's likely this is the last train to ever make the journey to the end of the line, ending an era of West Allis railroad history.
West Allis, Wisconsin.

Shootin' Shortlines With Roman The first train in three years on the Streator subdivision works its way north after setting out storage cars, it's likely that this ex CB&Q line wont see active service again, but there has been talk about a future for the line. This line branches from Ottawa, Illinois to Streator, Illinois. The last train was about 3 years and 2 months prior to ours. The branch ...

Shootin' Shortlines With Roman In my search for shortlines other than Wisconsin Southern to chase, I attempted to follow the Illinois Railnet which proved unsuccessful. I soon discovered the Decatur and Eastern Illinois (DREI) another WATCO railroad, which seems to run on a reliable schedule for the most part. I left Wisconsin at midnight and arrived in Decatur around 5:00AM to chase the eastbo...

Excellent as always !
What's that black box thing on the walkway behind the "Fireman's side" rear window?
I see this baby run through right by my backyard all the time. I love trains cuz of this one! Greetings from kimberly.
When will you post new videos? It's been a while. I hope all is well. It's October 15th 2024 as I write this. I miss your videos.
Sorry to disappoint, I've just been so busy heading out that it's hard to find time to create/upload. I've also been focusing more on the photography side of things. If you have Facebook, add me there and you'll get to see my shots. Thank you for being a loyal follower! There will be content coming out soon as well as my end of year picture compilations!
7:35 are these the same tracks that cross US 141?
If you mean US 151, indeed they are. Sorry for the late reply and thanks for watching!
Reedsburg rocket?
Great video that captured not just the variety of train traffic in the area but the beautiful Mississippi River valley!
Just Subscribed!!
Great catch by you ! The train was unable to catch Bambi. Run Bambi run!
When you mention Sunset Park, and the tracks on the other side of the park, you should mention that those tracks have been torn out for many years, and is now known as the Glacial Drumlin bike trail
Its funny how driving wreckless and illegally running across highways are just common deadly things that people illegally do all the time that no one cares much about, but everyone freaks out over train riders as if they're murderers or something.
Does anyone know where this line starts at? Between Butler & W. Allis?
Thank's for catching this, now we all have a piece of history. 👍
Excellent as always ! I hope the passenger car will be saved/ restored. Good catch. Thanx for sharing this !
I hear it's going to be a static display at Penzy's Spices of all places, I hope it enjoys a long life there. Thanks John!

Awesome video and enjoyed watching. My wife Jenny and I need to get back down that way. Have a wonderful upcoming week.(Steve)
Excellent ! Great opening, you were clearly in a hurry to get there. Pedal to the metal? Very good angles. Bouncy red engine was amusing. Lonsome rusty box car all very Good catches!
Great Eye!
Very cool video and lots of great catches. Have a wonderful rest of your Thursday evening.(Steve)
Great work chase, beautiful scenes and tune-age! Got to love-it! (Dave).
Thank you!
@@RoaminaroundwithRoman you are welcome
Great catch ! Excellent use of the drone ! And just like that the first train in three years was gone.
Hopefully it won't be the last...
Are people able to donate to help with your projects?
Donations would be awesome, but unfortunately I don't have any way to receive them now, the best way to help is by watching videos, and sharing them, thanks for your support!
@@RoaminaroundwithRoman If I win a major lottery prize I'll donate a restored Milwaukee Road club car to you for a lounge area in your yard. Your videos are most excellent.
Very good!
Great photos there Roman, I recognized a lot of those locations! (Dave).
Great photos and great music.
Thanks!
Great stuff ! Looking forward to more. Have a most excellent new year 2024 !
O.k. DOESN'T fit.
Very nice video but music don't fit .
The GP39 has such a unique sound. You can tell a long way off that there is a GP39 in the consist before the train arrives.
Entire train runbys are great. That footage will be historically valuable someday to illustrate the on-line business and equipment of the era.
Thank you! This line is constantly growing, especially around the Milton area, they just got a new customer in town and I hear they are getting another.
Super stuff. Love EMDs. Love Short-lines. Thanks for posting.
Very nice catches. Locations?
Wow fantastic video and enjoyed watching. Cool catches and footage. Have a great rest of your weekend.(Steve)
love it~super -
Good overall coverage of the railroad. They are quite predictable with many friendly crews which makes them an easy catch. I've lived in/around Decatur for a couple years now and they are my go-to shortline. One tiny correction: that 201 train was more than likely train 200, the local based out of Tuscola/Ficklin that once a week (typically Thursdays) makes a run to Metcalf to interchange Charleston Sub traffic. 201 is the reverse of 101 and runs at night so it's very hard to get on camera in any decent lighting, unless 101 runs it which happens every once in a long while if 201 gets caught up with odd jobs overnight (The train symbols are actually the crew symbols, which sometimes leads to a little confusion when you find that 200 turned into a grain train for a day instead of the Tuscola switcher like normal 🙂)
Awesome, thanks for the info! The DREI is definitely an awesome shortline and I plan to make more trips down south, I'll make the edits!
That was fun Roamin around Illinois and Indiana chasing the DREI trains. I grew up in Des Plaines but live in Arizona now. Loved the video !!
Glad you enjoyed it! There are more coming soon!
Hi, some nice footage there, thanks.
Thank you too!
Looks like a very successful trip Roman, would have been a cool one to be along with! (Dave).
Thank you! There are schedules available if you ask the right people on Facebook Groups, I can send them to you if you'd like!
Thanks much i will look around for them! (Dave). @@RoaminaroundwithRoman
i love biking on that bugline. leads to menomenee park
Park Falls, Wisconsin to Ashland, Wisconsin railroad trackage is getting reopen, as far as I know. It will take a lot of time, and hard work to restore the beauty of this line. Great photos.
Some of the crossings are pulled out, like in Mellen. I read on an internet discussion board Watco decoded against reopening the Ashland Sub north of Fifield/Park Falls. Still OOS after 2.5 years, there's no online business left and the old Consolidated Papers complex in Wisconsin Rapids closed several years ago which where most of the traffic went in WC era. So sad. It would take millions to reopen and do proper track work, fix washouts, etc.
What a catch!!!
Finally ! The video came through! Excellent ! You deserve a Sprechers root beer and your favorite hot dish as a reward !
Awesome, not sure why it wasn't working that's quite odd, just saw your comment now.
Awesome compilation video and glad you got to see the new scheme. Enjoyed watching and have a wonderul rest of your Friday.(Steve)
Thank you!
Some outstanding shots fill this amazing WSOR compilation video... Nice job !!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
For some reason the video wont play. I was looking forward to more of your top shelf quality filming. Is the problem at my end?
You would think with all the rail business on this branch line there would be a need/interest to upgrade the infrastructure to increase the speeds of the trains.
It's interesting you mention this, they are working on parts of the Merrimac bridge, it looks a lot different now than when I was last there. Most of the girders have been removed and replaced.
My wife and I took an excursion train on the NBN. I want to say the locomotive was a Baldwin AS-616 painted kind of a Kelly green with a white stripe. It was a pretty nice trip but when we got back to the beginning they were backing the cars into the siding and the wheels split the switch. I just happened to be standing in the vestibule above the guilty truck and saw the cars moving sideways. I yelled at people to get back away from the diaphragms. The crew was on top of it and we only rolled about twenty feet with the wheels off the rails. Bit of excitement to wrap up our trip. I can see why they’d leave the rails just lie there. It’s just like a farmer letting a field go fallow to let it re-generate. Let the trees grow and wait for better prices.
