It aged well...
Quite a noisy engine, l always thought them to be noise less.
The car is now 115 years old, this video shows the car's engine running with the bonnet open and the microphone is picking up sounds that the human ear may not be able to pick up, THAT'S why you can hear the engine on this video. It was called the Silver Ghost for a reason, that being 1) because it was colored silver and 2) when it drove past, compared to other cars of this era, THIS car was extremely quiet, like a ghost, hence the name "Silver Ghost". Hope this explains it

My late father and I sat in the rear of AX201 and were driven round the Crewe Bentley works during RR's centenary in 2004. His Silver Shadow also carries the plate AX201.
I have had the great pleasure (and honor) of riding in AX201 in 1987 (I think it was then) when it arrived in Sydney, Australia. I was STUNNED to say the LEAST at how quiet this car was, even for a Rolls Royce when Rolls Royce were basically just starting off. A memory I'll treasure for the rest of my life!

I was 7 yrs old when I was already appreciating the brass era...love these jewels from 1940 on down to the steam engines
He must know what he’s doing, but I was always told that you should never put your thumb over the starting handle, in case of kick back. Maybe an urban myth.
You are absolutely correct Sam, he was not very good . Did you notice how he leaned on the headlight when he started it?
In 1969 on the maiden voyage of Cunard's QEII the RREC arrived in NYC with members of the RR company. There was a meet at Tavern on the Green with the RROC. My late father was member of both clubs. Our family arrived in our brand new Silver Shadow Saloon. I was a wonderful event that was toped off with my father and I being actually allowed to sit in AX201 and have our picture taken. I know he had the picture but when he passed away in 1994 I was unable to locate it. so I always try to collect any photos or videos of this priceless work of art. I know it also was insured by Lloyds of London who have said that it is irreplaceable. l LOVE THAT CAR!!
About 25 years ago, this car was in New Zealand on a tour. I happened to call in to the NZ Agents, selling their Managing Director a mobile phone, and saw the car in their warehouse. The MD invited me to take a closer look and we went out to the warehouse, where I stood, not really believing what i was looking at. The MD simply said, ''Well go on then, jump in'' so I sat in all four seats, just to have sat in the same seats as all the stars of ''Those Magnificent Men'' and all the other amazing people this car has carried in its lifetime. Unforgettable!
I owned a Pub in Monmouthshire 3 miles from the Rolls estate and one of my customers lent me the original number plate he had taken off the car many years ago. My wife and I took this to a RREC rally at Windsor and yes it fitted the original bolt holes perfectly. Rolls Royce wanted the number plate back, but I could not let them have it as it did not belong to me,

I have the 1954 tax disc from the car , given to me as a souvenir when visiting the Conduit Street showrooms as a child with my father, c. 1960.
Great video but those bars on the side jumping back and forth annoying.

kraftpr Hi kraftpr, camera was hand held and U tube stabiliser caused side bar movements so I have taken it off in copy 2.
