Acheampong coup dètat, hence the propensity of a political revenge would be hanging around until it is executed. Also do note that the name NPP was choosen in 1992 because per law they could not have used the name UP as it was outlawed in a referendum in 1964. NPP is the modern form and name for the traditional UP.

I had my childhood from elwak and gondar barracks in the 80s and 90s and though a fan of JJ I can confidently say JJ was no saint. the killings were all not from him but he could have given up those he was shielding if he was innocent of it. please let's have a good debate on this issue well because the executions were in bad taste, utuka kept on saying I haven't being tried and yet was ignored and killed. also look for cpl tasiri and interview him. He said they called the shots from behind but put forth Rawlings as the face of the revolution because the people had fallen in love with him. Notwithstanding, Rawlings must still bear blames or share accolades over whatever the AFRC did. I have watched Rawlings in one interview, where he nonchalantly said that some of those officers/leaders, even though they could have been innocent, had to be sacrificed. Even though I was a fan of Rawlings', I was still appalled that he would cavalierly say or do something that Hitleric/Stalinistic.

    • @politicallycorrectghana1274
      @politicallycorrectghana1274 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you bro Abdul-Razak for the idea sharing. 🙏🏻🙏🏿🙏😀 You are very correct when you pointed out that we (Africa) have the resources that the rest of the world needs, so it is incumbent on us to, -a) determine what our prime and secondary interests are when dealing with other non-African nations. -b) imperative that we establish 'who we are' say we first must be satisfied before we export the surplus. This way African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) would be successful. The continent would have to place premium on intra-African dealings before relating with the rest of the world, however we are doing the opposite and keeping Africa countries always needy in the presence of abundance. -bi) Knowing 'who we are' as Africans and protecting who we are and what we have with respect to security, finance, energy and medical would prevent any non-African country from disrupting our pattern of development. -bii) Because African countries or AU does not know who we are, we are dependent on the physical security of the West and specifically US. Eg, US per UN would have to fund our ECOMOG (ECOWAS military) for any peace intervention in the subregion else we are incapable of intervening militarily within the continent, etc. -biii) Finance wise, all African countries have to buy their local currencies as in printing money from Europe or US and pay in Euro or pound sterling. Meanwhile Europeans and North Americans print their our Euros and dollars internally without paying nothing for it. Invariably, African countries are financial insecure by giving more money to the external secures print houses. -biv) Very important is African countries erroneous dependence on New York or the UK stock markey for commodity predictive pricing of our own goods and by them (New York and London) is another weakness that points to we Africans 'not knowing whom we are'. Or we are aware of whom we are as Africans to be a feeder continent to the West at the expense of our 'empty stomach' (wide spread poverty). Prices of cedi, grains, textiles, gold, diamond, crude oil, cocoa, lumbar etc are all priced in New York or London mercantile market, while we the producers/originators have no say in demand and supply for an equilibrium pricing. -bv) Strangely we do not have African pharmacopea or even the licence to produce generic European-American drugs to produce the medicines right in Africa. Specifically to respond to your question, I would indicate that Africa is yet to know itself and its interest while dealing with non-African countries or the reat of the world. Please let me conclude with the known nursery poem, 'Black black black sheep, have you any wool? Yes sir master, one for the master and one for lady who lives up the hill and one for the little boy who lives with the parents up the hill.' Africa families produce the wool and shares it for the European Master's family while leaving him/her self cum family waking and working about naked. Moment African countries discover themselves and its interest that is to be protected during negotiations with other countries we would have arrived to seeking hegemony.

Jerry Rawlings John was a captive of the AFRC as they freed him from cells and a would be pronouncement of guilty of treason and sentenced to death by the court marshall on the same June 4, 1979. The instructive word is captive, hence he could not resign from the AFRC, else what was pending on him could or may have to be executed. Well you have some points there but the reality of the situation as recorded and upon reflections of some main actors of the time, did indicate that: -i) Flt. Lft. Jerry Rawlings John's coup of 15th May 1979 failed and he was adopted by the Capt. Biakye Djan's 4 June 1979 coup dètat; -ii) Capt. Boakye Djan was the spokeman and the real leader of AFRC coup notably when Flt. Lft. Jerry Rawlings John was locked up and awaiting his sentencing for treason; -iii) Thus making Flt. Lft. Jerry Rawlings John the chairman of AFRC was nothing but as a facade for public acceptance as at the time he was the being clamoured for by loads of Ghanaians from his comments during his court marshall. But the true leader of AFRC was Capt. Boakye Djan and he was their spokesman; -iv) It was an intelligent move by AFRC to use Flt. Lft. Jerry Rawlings John as their chairman though without authority, but so as the coup gains public or civilians support and acceprance which is mandatory for any government.

      Was he the chairman of the committee that convicted that people to be executed? Rawling’s crime against his haters was that he didn’t allow himself to be killed by them, he played along and after knowing them found away to save himself from them. Boakye Gyan was the head of the tribunal that convicted the people and when he was questioned, he stated clearly that it was the AFRC law that killed the people but not him or Rawlings but hey, they hate Rawlings to the marrow and must drag him into the dirty mud to whitewash themselves. Adabugah’s problem with Rawlings was because he joined people to overthrow him because he(Adabuga) taught he’s so smart and couldn’t succeed and had to go into exile.

      @@danielboateng7414 Thank you Daniel again for the interactions, as you are playing an important role in unravelling the facts at the time in history. 🙏🏽🙏🏿🙏😀 Please per your narrative you seem to be assuming the June 4, 1979 coup leaders were operating under a democratic law where the president/head of state would have to sign the death warrant before the execution is carried out. Unfortunately the reverse was the case at the time (during the three months or so take over by Armed Forces Revolutionary Council). Be reminded junior military officers were in charge of the Ghana Armed Forces and the nation called Ghana at the same time. The junior military forces were dictating the pace as Lords with their senior officers become the serf and hiding in fear. In other words, the accepted norms had been thrashed and the unaccepted had become the decree, which implies the execution of any senior military officer could be and was done without the necessary approval of the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council figure head but by the cry of the junior military officers who were part of the leadership team and screaming for blood spillage.

Evidence - Please if you read my responses to previous comments I did share accounts of the main actors of the coup dètat. Below is the unambigious claim by Gen. There is too distortion in your narration. The free African movement was formed in 1970 and to strike in 1984.However 15th may insurrection preempted them to turn june 4,th into an emergency or else all of them would have killed as they were friends of Rawlings The afrc was formed on 5,th June The leadership was bicephelous. Like Akuffo Addo and Dr Busia,in 1969.Jerry was ceremonial head of state whilst Boakye Djan was spokesman running govt. General Hamidu capitulated and was given a prepared speech to announce the overthrow of his own govt. Yes,Jerry hands could have been forced by other shadowy hands .Unfortunatly uneasy lies the head that wears the crown There were agendas every where .

    You're a tribalistic guy who wants to defend the indefensible tribal man Rawlins. How can you blame NPP for such barbaric crime that went on in 1979, while every right minded Ghanaian knows that it was Rawlins and his people who did that? Those Major Suleman and General Ahmidu joined NPP because of how they were betrayed by the greedy Rawlins. Don't forget that they had to run away from the country, and they were all living in exile. The only way they could return to Ghana was to support the NPP to get Rawlins out of power.

      Yes Abrewanana, I agree with you that I do have some ethnicentric tendencies, however it does not take precedence in my work. If you are in doubt about the fact that Flt. Lft. Jerry Rawlings John was against the killing of the top military officers that including three heads of state (Gen. Acheampong, Gen. Akufo and Gen. Afrifa) do read the link below and specifically paragrah 3 lines 6 to 10 where it is better captured by Gen. Hamidu himself. www.google.com/amp/s/www.modernghana.com/amp/news/19311/jj-opposed-afrifas-execution-hamidu.html For the purposes of objectivity do read the Washington Post or New York Times publications of 4 -26 June 1979 on events in Ghana at the time. On your submission that the popular accepted view be it in Ghana or external that Flt. Lft. Jerry Rawlings John was the one who executed the top military officers in 1979 is near correct because I do not have empirical data to that claim, all the same the vlog under discussions is to help clarify the situation and exonerate the innocent who has been vilified and blamed for those murders based on analysing various publications. Do me a favour if you can to help locate the recording of the military hearing of those murdered military officers before the firing squad of the top in 1979, as this would help resolve alot. Abrewanana, it is incumbent on us as educated people to investigate issues for facts irrespective of whatever the popular view is, as this way we should be establiahing facts and not be pushing popular views that are sometimes erroneous. Also be reminded that it would be disingenuous and unethical on our part to keep blaming the innocent person(s) for crimes we know out of investigations they did not commit. God save the innocent ones from persecution and help us uphold our jurisprudence pointer of 'innocence until proven guilty'.

      You might have observed I did not comment on the NPP bid aspect of your response as it is deliberate and am waiting for your reading of the link I provided you and your subsequent comment or queation(s). Please ask yourself these questions, - Who were peeved with the overthrowal of the UP (Dr. Abrefa Busia and Papa Akufo Addo) from power? - Who would be happy and the beneficiary of the coupists of the second republic and would advocate for their punishment for treason? Must likely UP turned into NPP.

      In principles I can understand your point and it is logically reasonable but not necessarily correct boss Akwesi. Because understanding events of humans is not only about logic, hence making the June 4, 1979 case an exceptional one with Flt. Lft. Jerry Rawlings John's who lead the abortive coup of May 15, 1979 as neither the brainchild nor the leader of June 4, 1979 coup and invariably making him a follower disguised as the leader. Following this understanding, whatever he Fly Lft. Jerry Rawlings John thinks or feels or verbalises carries no weight and can be rubbished by the orchestrators of the June 4, 1979 coup, and this was confirmed by Gen. Joshua Hamidu who was the then Chief of Army Staff.
