Who Will Let The Dogs Out?
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 19 ม.ค. 2020
This channel supports WhoWillLetTheDogsOut.org, an initiative of Operation Paws for Homes. Our mission is to raise awareness and resources for homeless dogs and the people who fight to save them. Too many dogs continue to suffer and perish in the United States. We believe this problem exists not because people don't care, but because they don't know. Help us tell them.

Our nation’s animal shelters are in crisis. For the last three years, the number of dogs being euthanized has dramatically risen and something has to change. Over the course of 150 visits to shelters and rescues in 13 states, we’ve learned a lot. This book draws from those experiences and conversations with hundreds of Animal Control Officers, Shelter and Rescue directors, advocates, veterinari...

Waste of resources
Can I buy this in Australia? Is this just for Americans?😇😇
Although it deals most specifically to problems faced by American shelters right now, it also is a great resource for ANYONE looking to help animals and wondering what they can do. The campaign perks can be mailed anywhere and the book will eventually be available for purchase through Amazon. You can see the campaign at www.indiegogo.com/projects/who-will-let-the-dogs-out-stories-and-solutions/x/38162640#/
The problem is people take certain breed of dogs like pitbulls an pitbull mixes n overbreed them for financial gain , an most end up in dog shelters etc because of the that . If we could put a stop to people doing these things there would be less of a over dog population
The cost of veterinarian care is the biggest hurdle for me. I would love to adopt a dog, feed him & provide proper care. I just don't have the funds.
actually, you don't really need all the vet care, look on line for answers to most pet health issues and stay away from commercial pet foods (I feed human food) , toxic weed sprays for your lawn (and park areas) and it is relatively inexpensive to care for a pet. You can even give your own vaccinations (get them at feed stores) if you really need them.

This seems to me to an authentic video with a very positive message. Assuming this is true, thank you for this.
Need law to ban selling of pets to stop this problem.
Legislation is certainly part of the solution but not the whole fix. CA has some of the toughest laws in the country regarding sale of domestic animals and still euthanizes a LOT of dogs! But yes, backyard breeding needs to be stopped.
Thank you for doing what your doing!
What a beautiful film that both educates and invites the viewer to do something!!!! I am a foster mom in New Orleans and I thought I knew alot about dog rescue, but I didn't know about the BSL. Kudos to you, Amber, and your whole family for making love an action verb.
Wow ! Thank you all so much for this awesome video. There is a ton of valuable information and advice here ! I am grateful that there are people like you in this world who will volunteer their valuable time and energy to help out animals ! 😺🐶
Shes wonderful hopefully somebody will truly help her!!!!
I work at a shelter that you’ll actually be visiting this week and a HUGE problem that I’ve seen in multiple shelters is that they try to “save them all”. Why is that a problem, why does it backfire? Because when a shelter or rescue tries to save very aggressive dogs, all they are doing is causing that animal to be in an extremely stressful situation for a prolonged period of time, which takes up kennel space so they’re turning social/adoptable dogs away which causes the problems you discussed in this video, and then if it ever gets adopted, the likelihood of it attacking someone is very high. And that will end up in it being put down anyway and now a person has been injured or killed and that leads to worse reps for shelters and less adoptions. Another group of animals that should just be put down is ones that come in with illnesses or injuries that are very expensive to treat and heal. Most shelters are running on fumes so how can they justify spending thousands of dollars on one animal that many times will die anyway? How many animals in the community can be fixed/chipped/vaxxed with all that money? A ton! But no. Shelters would rather try to save just one animal with those scarce resources. The previous director at my shelter was great in a lot of ways. But he failed miserably in those two ways. He tried to save a sick/injured dog with tons of vet care and that dog died six months later anyway. Guess how much he spent? $10,000!!!!!! On ONE dog! He also hung onto aggressive dogs instead of putting them down. One stayed in the shelter in a tiny kennel for FOUR YEARS and finally went to rescue and guess what? Within a week he mauled someone and that rescue euthanized him. He should have been put down as soon as the director realized he was as aggressive as he was and that would have meant that in those four years, that kennel space could have been used to house and save countless other dogs that were actually social and safe to adopt out, AND that person wouldn’t have been mauled. When shelters and rescues focus so much on saving aggressive and expensive to heal animals, that decision right there leads to thousands and thousands of social, healthy animals dying on the streets. So they’re doing more harm than good just to appease their own emotions. Please don’t reference my comment this week because I don’t want to get in trouble, but this is some reasoning that ALL of these shelters need to hear and listen to. And when it comes to feral cats, if there’s not a colony they can be quickly added to after a quick spay/neuter, then they should be put down. They should never have to spend weeks or months in a shelter setting. It’s torture for them and space and resources are used on them (unadoptable animals) while others are being turned away which leads to people dumping their pets which leads to more feral cats and dogs being born.
Thank you so much! Such a great resource- it helped me through the grant rabbit hole!
Thank you so much for showing the challenges faced by so many small, rural shelters. There are so many obstacles from govt, citizens, etc. I hope you can get some funds and good pr from regional news at least!
Thanks for your comment. It really is challenging in so many ways. We are hoping the community takes notice and shows they care about the welfare of their animals.
You should add a link to the shelter website and donation page. @@WhoWillLetTheDogsOut
Amber, I came to see the new edit. Pudge perked up at the sound of your voice and watched with me for a while. What you all do is amazing, and you bring so many blessings to both the dogs and those of us lucky enough to adopt one. God bless.
Thanks so much for watching and supporting!
Thank you all for bringing awareness with this discussion and video. Thank you for all yall do.
Same with cats
Cats are killed twice as much as dogs!! It's a terrible problem. The cat thing is huge. Good TNR programs can help.
Gracias por rescatarlos
Blessings to all ❤❤❤❤
Excellent video!! Suzy and all members of her rescue do so much good work in Memphis. The director at MAS needs to get off her high horse and LISTEN to Suzy!! I do follow your organization, Who Let The Dogs Out, and appreciate the work you all do, too. In the words of Bob Barker, from many, MANY years ago, "There aren't enough homes for them all. Spay or neuter your pet."
Thank you! We agree!
This has been an eye opening video set! As a result, I have decided to become an official grant writer for our local rescue and low cost spay/neuter clinic that is working so hard to open. I have been a foster and and volunteer for many cat rescues but can't foster any more, so this is a PERFECT ROLE for me to jump into! I am an uber nerd for knowledge management and collaboration so this it GREAT!!!!
This makes us SO HAPPY! It's exactly the point of making the videos. Thank you so much for stepping up!
Best of luck to you, Leah ! I am also stepping into the role of grant writer for a non profit spay and neuter clinic for feral and abandoned cats ! 😺🐶

I’ll definitely check them out! Haven’t heard of them before!
This lady is a hero! I will have to look for her on other social media. See if I can help her get some dogs homes. Bullies are one of my favorite breeds. I rescued a bully from a breeder on Craigslist! I saw her picture and she looked so sad! I knew I had to save her! I gave the guy $100 extra just to get her as he seemed like he didn’t want to give her to me. When I got her, I took her to the vet the next day. Three hundred dollars later, she was diagnosed with mange, two ear infections, and a bacterial infection on her stomach from being in the kennel all the time! We found out after she was abused. She is the most loving sweetheart I have ever met! ❤️
Please donate to rescues. Rescues are run by donations. They are also tax deductible! Rescues Will also let you foster through them. It’s temporary, and it’s free for you! Fly high 🌈Tilly. Poor baby 😭
If you’re seeing this, this is your time to adopt from a local shelter/rescue, lol. If you’re looking for a specific breed, they have them at rescues as well! Adopt dont shop please
Sooooo informative. Keep it up!
I love what you do! Please continue raising awareness. You guys are amazing. I saw one time on Instagram that you were looking for volunteers to help online. I was going to sign up, then I got bombarded with saving dogs from the red list on tik tok. I live up north but if there’s any way I can help, I would love too! As we can’t rescue our way out of this. I need to do more.
We would love to have more shelter liasons, which basically means you would watch one of our visited shelter's social media posts and share important posts with us so we can promote them on our page. See whowillletthedogsout.org/how-can-you-help/ for more information! Thanks!!
wake up
Wide awake here. It's a struggle, but we can do better.
your very disallosioned
Having visited over 80 rural shelters, we can understand how many people have given up on the willingness of the public to care for their dogs. However, we have seen wonderful people in every single place who know the value of dogs and are working on solutions to end the constant and unnecessary flow of dogs through their doors. This IS a fixable problem, but it will take a multi- pronged solution to bring about change. Awareness is just the first step.

It’s so true that people don’t know! I didn’t find out until I made a tik tok account, now I fight with a team to save dogs from being put down in the south. Up north we don’t have this problem so I had no idea. Thank you for bringing awareness!
Thank you for all YOU are doing. Keep spreading the word. We truly believe this is a fixable problem.
