The Jellyfish Journals
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 18 ก.พ. 2014
🪼 Hi! My name is Susie, and I love creating and reading - and what better way to relax than to combine two of my favorite hobbies! I started this channel at the encouragement of my husband and daughter, and my hope is to encourage others to jump in and create something new, too. Or, if you aren't feeling creative, maybe you'll hear about a book that looks good!
Jellyfish are fascinating creatures, and at a difficult time in my life they represented grace and God's provision. I got a tattoo of a jellyfish so I'd never forget to demonstrate that grace in difficult times, and that God will always be there. Over the years since, jellyfish have become a bigger part of my life - mainly in my 3rd grade classroom, as students frequently give me jellyfish-themed gifts. 🪼
Please feel free to comment if you have any questions or suggestions for what to include on my channel.
I hope you enjoy, and if you do, please like and subscribe! 🪼

New subscriber, I’ve been binging book journal videos lately because I’m getting ready to make my first one for 2025. You have some really creative ideas and I enjoyed watching along! I’m not the best artist but I’m hoping I can make a decent looking basic journal lol. I like the way you did the vellum chair and I would have never thought an xacto knife would work like that without cutting through the page! What a neat idea. Bravo to you for starting a channel! I also work in education so I get the abundance of free time in summer too, nice to have a hobby for those vacation days!
So inspiring!
ROOM is such a great book. I still think about it 10 years later 😂 So excited for Sunshine on the Reaping! Your journal turned out amazing! You’ll have so much fun with it. 🫶🏼
Your nails look great! They're neat, clean, and neutral, so they do not distract from what you're doing in the video. I have a very strong dislike for long, overly decorated nails in videos. They're a huge distraction, and most "content creators" struggle to do basic things like peeling stickers with nails like this. Additionally, natural nails that are unkempt (dry cracked cuticles, unevenly cut, etc.) are equally distracting. Kudos to your daughter for getting you to try something new.
I could not agree more with this observation. Neat, clean, and neutral nails clearly display more professionalism and it made the viewing experience much better. And the fact that they were done by her daughter? Fabulous work. 😊
Beautiful and love the color scheme. I got some really good inspo from these. I'd love to see a flip through also. I am new to reading journals. I created one for the last couple months of this year to test it out and am so excited to do a new one for 2025.
You did an awesome job! I'm looking forward to watching more of your videos.
Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it! 🪼
Fellow teacher here…holidays and summer biggest reading time. This will be my first reading journal, thanks for sharing your set up!
Woo hoo for holidays and summers! 😂 Thjs is my first official reading journal too, I hope you have as much fun with yours as I have with mine! 🩵🪼
I’d love to see a final flip through of your whole setup! It’s been fun watching your process and everything turned out beautifully
Thank you so much! The final flip through should be posted in the next few days! 🩵🪼
This is really turning out so cute!
Thank you! 🪼
Absolutely gorgeous Susie. I'm getting there with my 2025 reading journal, it's all pencilled in I just need to nail down my colour palette. I'm thinking black, grey and some sort of burgundy. I hate putting pen to paper as I have no confidence in my decorating skills :)
I think you’re off to a great start with choosing a color palate! Those colors sound nice, too! And thanks for the kind words! 🩵🪼
Wow, I'm so impressed that this video is your first!!! You did great and I love your ideas for your journal, especially the world map. And please do keep doing voice overs, you have such a wonderful and calming voice. I will be looking forward to following your channel!
Thanks so much! I'm so happy to hear you like the voice over and the world map idea! 🪼
Your lettering is so pretty!
Thank you! 🩵🪼
I'm really enjoying watching your videos. I'm getting some great ideas for my 2025 reading journal. I love the b&w covers replaced with the colored ones once you read the book.
Oh yay! 🩵 I mostly did that so I wouldn’t forget which books I’d chosen and then read them in the wrong month. 😂🪼
Love what you are doing, would love to see the full setup flip through!
Thank you! It should be out early this week, I’m so excited! 🪼
my archer and olive binding broke after i tore some pages away from it T.T
Oh no! I think it helps to leave the smallest bit of the page you’re taking out, that way it doesn’t compromise the binding. But I’m always so nervous! 🪼
that is a beauttttttiful bujo
Thank you! 🪼
Obsessed with that flower garden tracker! I’m going to try to use that as inspo in mine, maybe as a genre tracker for me though ❤❤
That was actually my original plan, but I changed my mind. It would work as a few different trackers I think! Have fun! 🪼
Your journal is so pretty!
Aww, thanks so much! 🪼
I don't mind the voice over, but would like the video slow down.
I'll work on that! Thanks for the feedback! 🪼
Love this set up! Planning with Bumble is one of my favorite content creators, too. Your journal is amazing, and I love the layout. Looking forward to getting ideas from you!
She is amazing! I’m so happy you’re excited to get ideas, I had the best time putting this together! 🪼
the flower idea... it shall be used immediately in my reading journal. thank you😭❤🥰
You're welcome! I'm glad it inspired you! Thanks for watching! 🪼
I love this! I will read watch all of your videos so far. fyi i have 125 roles of washi (it is a late night shopping problem lol)
Oh I love washi! It's so versatile and easy to use - but man, it's also too easy to collect! 😂🪼
Hi! Loving how your journal is shaping up, and the speed was great! For the book bracket: I do mine at the end of the year, so I can reflect on each month and choose a favourite. I also randomise where I put each month in the starter position, so that no two consecutive months are together. And finally, I add four more slots, one for each quarter of the year, so that I can choose a runner-up from one of the months. I don't know if that made sense, hope it helps!
These are great ideas! I've gone back and forth, and have decided to give it one more year like this before I try to change it... but there's a good chance I will change it! 😂🪼
Yaaayyy!!! Part 3😁
Haha, that's how I felt too! Thanks for watching! 🩵🪼
The voice over was brilliant, but to be fair I loved the longer videos. Now I'm going to have to google a horror tropes and add that into my journal. Great video, looking forward to the next
Ooooh, you could have a lot of fun with horror tropes! And thanks for the feedback, I'm trying to keep them around 30 minutes, but good to know longer is okay! 🪼
Really enjoyable videos, very inspiring. For the Book Bingo - I recently saw a poster (so sorry, can't remember who) that created the bingo box on two facing pages but leaving the right hand box blank then, as she fulfilled each prompt, she put a picture of that book's cover in the corresponding blank space. Not sure I'm explaining it very well but I thought it was a nice idea to identify the books. Of course, some might think it a waste of space in their journal bur I think I will be using it myself.
I saw that one too, but I didn't write it down and I couldn't find it! Grrrr. I'm glad someone else saw it too! 😂 I might try it that way for 2026! 🪼
The word I think you are looking for is “prompts”. Your spreads are really nice.😀
YES! Thank you! And thanks for the comment on the spreads, too! 🪼
The voiceover was great- not too rushed. And I think the word you’re thinking of is prompt. Your journal really came together, so pretty and cohesive without being repetitive.
Thank you so much! 🩵 And yes! PROMPT! It just wasn't coming to me! 🪼
19:30 This is just an idea but maybe you can write the titles of your classics on craft paper then cut them up and stick them on the page when you read them. I hope this makes sense😅
That's a great idea! I'll definitely have to do something to break up all the plaid! 😂🪼
I'm relaxing with my coffee and enjoying your video on a Sunday afternoon😊
Oh, I love this! Thank you for watching! 🪼
Love to our journal! I am currently setting mine up and gathered ideas and planned in a similar fashion. I will be adding a couple of yours as well. Looking forward to your new channel!! ❤
Yay! Thank you so much, and have fun! 🪼
I loved your setup and you have given me some ideas and inspiration for setting up my book journal. ❤❤ I subscribed.
I'm so glad to hear this! Thank you! 🪼
The map is a great idea that I had not thought of. I found an A5 Moleskine that I'm using as a sewing and project journal, and I couldn't figure out how to implement the map. I think I'll cut it out and create a tip-in for my Reading Journal. Thank you for sharing!!
Tip ins are awesome, I might have to do one for new books I get next year. 😂 I love the idea of a project journal! 🪼
One of my favorite books in the world is The Endless Steppe by Esther Hautzig. It’s a memoir of a young Jewish girl sent to Siberia with her family during WWII. I read it so many times in middle and high school.
That sounds right up my alley, I'll check it out. Thanks! 🪼
I loved Molokai and Remarkably Bright Creatures! Have you read Daughter of Molokai? Also good.
They are so good! I knew there was a second book, but I haven't read it yet. I'm glad to hear it's good, too! 🪼
My 2024 journal was the first one I ever set up, it was like a pilot project. For 2025 I have chosen a B6 Corderona and bought a printer for the covers of the books and more, im getting waaaay better at this and I love it. Having it actually made me read even more, I have read 63 books this year and that has never hapenned before i love yours
I love that it's making you read more, I feel like it's doing the same thing for me too! I love to relax and read, but it's giving more purpose to my creative side too! Double win! 🪼
I just finished my first Lisa See book. Snowflower and the Secret Fan. LOVED IT!! 4.5 ⭐ what other Lisa See books do you recommend?
I've only read two, but I think I have them all now - Snow Flowers is one of my reading challenge books for 2025, I'm glad to hear it's so good too! I LOVED The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane and The Island of Sea Women, those two were enough to get me going. I found most of her books at thrift stores. Happy reading! 🪼
The way you did that chair is fantastic! ❤️🇨🇦
Thank you! I'm really happy with it! 🪼
Colin Thubron… In Siberia. That would get a big chunk coloured lol
It never actually occurred to me to look for any books that take place in Siberia - you had me going on Amazon! 😂🪼
@ it does have you reading some very different books to the normal go-to genres that’s for sure. I’ve really enjoyed the challenge of exploring the world through the written word.
Oh, I adore how you do the book awards, I'm wondering if I could do something like that for my book bingo this year. Time to get my thinking cap on. Big loves from England :)
I love that idea, because then you could hide the book covers underneath! 🪼
Hello! I've really enjoyed watching your first videos. You're doing great! Your videos are really inspiring me for my 2025 Reading Journal. I also did A to Z this year and have Zero Days on my list for my Z as well! I'd love to hear how you liked it. For Q, I HIGHLY recommend (The) Queen's Gambit. It was so good. I haven't watched the show so I went into it pretty blind and it didn't disappoint. For X, I read this cute Korean KPop teen romance called XOXO. I'm not sure if that would interest you, but it was something different and I really enjoyed learning about Korean culture. I'm looking forward to your future videos! Keep it up! 😀
Yay, I'm so happy to hear that! I liked Zero Days, but it had a lot of tech talk, which I don't have the brain for. Thank you for the other book recommendations! 🪼
Love the idea of tropes. Where did you find your list of Thriller Tropes?
I can't remember the exact website, but I just searched for Thriller Tropes and dug around... I just tried it again and there are some I wish I'd used, like "broken-down car." 😂🪼
Love it! 😍 Great ideas with the awards
Thank you so much! 🪼
The chair idea is just lovely and so creative!
Thank you, it was fun! 🪼
This looks amazing! I am planning for my book bracket to break it into quarters instead of by month. So 3 books per each of the 4 quarters because I have the same situation I’d say my top 8 were read in q1 in q2-q3 I did read much and was recovering from my book hangover from q1 😅
Haha, I love the book hangover! 🪼
Me again! I'm sorry. I got stickers on Etsy that has the outline of the US and when you finished you put a sticker on the state. BTW my youngest child is Chinese. Lisa See came to my older daughters school for a reading. My oldest daughter brought 2 books and a little Chinese shoes and asked her to sign them! She was so sweet and even personalized it to Jia. Also: South Africa: Born a Crime by Trevor Noah and Don't Lets Go to the Dog's Tonight (can't remember the author ) I hope you don't mind my writing. Ps. Queenie by Toni Morrison. I'm better at the book names than the beautiful journals like yours!
Don't be sorry, it's fun chatting about this with people! That sounds incredible, I'd love to meet her. I'm not much of a fangirl, but I really do love her books! Thanks for the book suggestions! 🪼
Do keep talking as you’re ‘doing’ your journal-your voice was just perfect. It’s only confidence you need and that will come the more you upload. Really, you did a fantastic job and if you hadn’t said you were new at this I would not have known 😊
Oh my gosh, that really made my day. Thank you so much! 🪼🩵
Welcome to the reading journal community! You've done A LOT of research and it shows 😍 I wish my first journal was like that. Hope you'll have lots of fun with all your spreads and trackers in 2025 :D
Haha, I had a video watching addiction for a while too, but it definitely helped me think through what I knew I would and wouldn't use. I feel very confident about these spreads working for me. And thanks for the welcome! 🪼
So pretty! 😅 I only buy books after I’ve read them and love them to know they will be on my reread list. There are several books that I must reread yearly especially during book hangovers.
I've only done that a couple of times, but it's very logical! And book hangovers! 🤣🪼
This is a really nice video with a lot of great ideas. I also set myself the goal to read at least 25 books in 2025 and I think I will include 2 or 3 ideas in my bullet journal. Thanks for inspiration. ❤
It's my pleasure! I love sharing what I create, and I'm so happy that you felt inspired to create too! I'm so excited for 2025! 🪼
I feel the same - for both. The joy of sharing my creativity with others made me start my blog and TH-cam channel. And I am so curious for 2025. Something deep inside of me is telling me that it will one of the greatest years ever.
