This year I've created a sweet lullaby for the Genelec Harmony Track 2024 competition. Hope it'll relax you and give you uplifting thoughts for 2025 😀
1. Can you tell us a little about yourself, your music and how you get creative?
Born in Italy, I am a UK-based classically trained pianist, songwriter, producer and self-releasing artist. My unique sonic signature blends classical music, melodic rock, pop, traditional jazz and dance music.
I specialise in melody writing. Sometimes, I'm inspired by a phrase from TV or a magazine that sparks a song title or lyrical concept, which I develop into lyrics. I compose on my Yamaha piano and record in my bedroom studio using Pro Tools. For production, I use sound libraries, the Falcon synthesizer, and Toontrack EZ Drums for grooves. I sometimes sing my songs, and when funded, I hire musicians and guest vocalists.
2. What inspired your Harmony Track?
I create based on my moods and intentions. 2024 has been a busy but challenging year musically, so I wanted to craft something uplifting yet sweet and relaxing to bring positive energy into 2025, and this is what inspired the choice of the dreamy piano preset with delays, from UVI's "LoFi" soundscape, that i used.
For lyrics, I turned to a book of copyright-free quotes and came across "Keep On" (1916) by Henry Thacker "Harry" Burleigh. The original lyrics were:
"Keep on looking for the bright, bright skies,
Keep on hoping that the sun will rise,
Keep on singing while the whole world sighs,
And you'll get there in the morning.
Keep on sowing when you've missed the crops,
Keep on dancing when the fiddle stops,
Keep on faithful till the curtain drops,
And you'll get there in the morning."
The adapted lyrics i used from "Keep On" inspired the layered harmonies in the hopeful line, "and you'll get there in the morning," adding an angelic tone to the piece.
3. What do Genelec loudspeakers mean to you?
I first fell in love with Genelec speakers 23 years ago, and the feeling is still vivid. During the pandemic, I saved up and bought a pair of 8010s. A few years ago, I also got a Genelec tote bag, which I carry with me every day. Genelec always makes me smile, reminding me of my musical journey over the years.
