I really like yours. :)
Thank you!
boa noite... concordo contigo, pois tambem sou arquiteto e tenho dificuldades em abandonar os detalhes e a exatidão do desenho... estoou me esforçando para ficar mais loose-line... muito bons teus comentários.
So glad to hear that. Thank you for your comments.
Artists’s outputs have no good or bad It’s purely self expressions and styles It’s up to the audience to appreciate and to like or dislike according to their aesthetic values they process
Indeed
Very interesting. You do have a lot of talents also, I wish I can do the same!!! Ian Fennely,is a master and a very good teacher he is very generous to share his talent. What you create is very nice 🙏💕
Yes, Ian is a great teacher and very talented. Thank you for your comments.
Sounds like fun.
I think it will be.
Enjoyed seeing the comparison of pencils and watercolors done on the same building. Nice job.
Thank you so much for your comments.
Enjoyed your video because I wanted to be an architect but ended up being a draftsman in the spacerace in the 60s and 70s and finally working on a project where I got my name on Mars. So I too was in the school of everything square and parallel. After watching Ian’s TH-cam videos, I am loosening up a bit myself. Thanks
Glad to hear you share some of the experiences as me. Thank you for your comments.
Hi Larry! I enjoyed your video! I admire your ability to capture the character of the house. Well done!
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
Top! yours are better
That's saying a lot. But, I very much like Ian's style. Thank you for the comment.
Now I want to sketch a grain elevator! I do hear a bit of a TX accent in your voice…I grew up hearing it so I like it.
At first glance, grain elevators are not all that interesting. But, I found that they are after having a closer look. Thank you for your comments.
One lesson I learned early on is where is my whitest white and my darkest dark? I think that's where Fennely'stands out.
Yes, he has such a great way of using both.
Ian's seems more loose and abstract than Larry's. Larry has a more detailed look. They both are excellent and reflect their styles well. I like both styles. GREAT WORK! SUB/LIKE/SHARE/COMMENT/THX.
Thank you for your comments.
That is so good you just helped for my presentation thank you so much!!!
I am so glad to help. Good luck with your presentation.
This is awesome!
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it.
I'm a huge Ian Fennelly fan, so this was a fascinating comparison. I like yours just as much as Ian's, but they are certainly different.
I am a fan of Ian's too. He has so much to share. Thank you for your comments.
Love it 👌👌
Thank you. I really appreciate it.
Great use of color.
Thank you!
Excellent video. More darks.
Glad you enjoyed it
Beautiful
Thank you
Texas sunsets are beautiful. Helpful, thank you.
Glad you like them!
I would never had expected to sketch a grain elevator before seeing this video.
There is beauty all around us to capture with a sketch.
I would be tickled with either system! I’m about as non-creative as they come!
Keep at it and have fun!
I think you said you were going to start your color wet on wet, but your paper was dry. Either way love your work, and love that you try other ppls techniques ❤ i can't wait to try this loose and bold style
Yes, I misspoke about the wet on wet.
Another nice thing about using complementary colors, if you do want to tone the hue down a bit they can be mixed together, maybe for the colors further in the distance. For what it's worth, i preferred how yours turned out 😊 Using the darkest pen and the most detail in the foreground really gives the scene depth of field and added perspective
Thank you for your comments. It is much appreciated.
Watercolor paper does not “ruin “ your pens if they are fountain pens. Felt tip pens are too fragile..
Thank you for the clarification.
Good video
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it.
It is good that you are able to set your ego aside and are willing to learn. However, also try to stay truth to yourself. It seems to me that you are throwing away the baby with the bathwater if you try to follow Ian’s way. He has his own talents and qualities, but you have yours. Ian could never draw from your vision and experience as an architect, for example. Try to develop from within instead of from the outside. Everyone is unique. Follow your own path and try to find your own unique expression.
That is good advice. Thank you for it.
He’s the best!
Yes, he is such a gentleman and great artist.
I love both of your sketches, but of course the second one it’s more loose,,,nice! I have to give it a try….
Yes, give it a try!
Larry, I loved the sketch! I must admit I liked the wonky edge to that wall before you covered it up, but the end result was absolutely stunning!
Thanks a bunch!
I love both styles! So much to learn from each! Thank you Larry 😊
I am so glad you found value in the video. Thank you for your comments.
I enjoyed watching this. I like both of your sketches.
Thank you for your comments. Hope you enjoy the upcoming videos.
Thanks. Great color.
Glad you like it!
Very enjoyable watching your process. I’m far too tight and struggling to paint and draw the way Ian does and your video has helped a lot. Thank you.
Thank you for your comments. I was taught to be tight with my drawings too. It is a journey of finding our new comfort level of being loose.
Hi Larry. Jim from Madrid, Spain (a fellow artist and a New Yorker expat living abroad). Nice sketch. Damn I miss the US... The retouch done back at home and including the darks and shadows made it pop more. You can see your architect's mind at work! 😁✌ It is not easy to achieve the "fish eye" and/or skewed effect on buildings... But, it's a very cool technique to master 'cause it gives a lot of personality to the sketch (I'm still learning too!). Great sketch and cheers from Sunny Spain! 😁👍😎✌
Thank you for your comments. Hope you will get your "USA fix" while viewing the videos on the channel. Have a great Thanksgiving!
Appreciate the tip on keeping the pen loose when laying out the scene! Such a nicely built church.
It is my natural instinct, or training, to hold tightly to the pen. But, a loose grip is giving me a lot more freedom during the initial sketching phase.
Very interesting, my dream is paint like an architect
You can do it!
I am a former drafter, so I clue onto details that messes the whole thing up. I wish I could figure out how to post a picture here, as my version (made while your video was rolling, so 5 minutes including color) is against the grain of everything I have been trained as....but hell, its messy, but I can see my way to a looser way of interpretation that is way more fun. i get stressed out on all the details having to be right (and they never ever will be)....so Ian's technique is somewhat liberating.
I know what you mean about the drafter's mentality of being detail focus. I have had that issue too. What I find that is helpful is to draw only the outline of the overall main scene. Then, fill in the details layer by layer. To a point, you will want to stop before over-working the composition. I would love to see your 5 minute sketch. Feel free to email it to urbansketchpad@gmail.com.
Great video Larry 😊
Thank you, Rebecca. I appreciate you reaching out.
Thanks for the comparison.
Thanks for watching!
Lovely to spend time with you Larry! Thank you for sketching along with us :)
It was a great experience. Thank you for your hospitality.
Cool. Thanks, thumbs up, and subscribed.
Thanks for the sub. I hope you enjoy the future videos. If there are topics you would like to see, please let me know.
@@UrbanSketchPad-cx1ep I'm a beginner at this. Just learning, and trying some stuff. I like the pen and wash, and just about any sort of watercolor. Also, acrylic on canvas. I want to do some cards for Christmas. I'm sure that I'll enjoy and learn from anything you do. Thanks. (Edit: Re topics -- I like the urban stuff. Buildings, cars, etc.)
Like Ian's He has so much more control Hes not all over the place I too am an Artist 50 yrs PROFESSIONAL REPRODUCTION ARTIST... GRAPHIC ARTIST...WATER COLOR ARTIST
Ian certainly does a lot a control and order to his compositions. Thank you for your feedback.
@@UrbanSketchPad-cx1ep 🎨🖌your welcome
I like both for different reasons! :) You have great talent Sir.! :) Enjoyed your analysis.
Thank you for your compliments. Hope you enjoy my future videos.
Excellent video. Thank you. I also need to loosen up and not be so literal in my attempts at urban sketching.
Yes, once I loosen up, I can be more expressive. Ian is a a good example of being free for being too exact.
some people need to learn humility
Thank you for your comment.
For a beginner like me who has no drawing background, this is a fantastic video and thank you for sharing and walking through the whole process of visualization, sketching, coloring and final touches. You are an excellent teacher and your commentary while drawing is amazing and insightful. Look forward to more of your videos and your video has inspired me to start trying such urban sketches. Thank you
I am glad you found value from my video. Thank you for your comments. Keep me up to date of your progress.
Really cool.
Its fun too. Hope you enjoy my future videos. Stay tuned.
Very interesting analysis/comparison. Thank you. 🙏🏻
Glad you liked it!
Well, they're both interesting in their own right. The architectural one is indeed more precise, the artist's version is using a more dramatical 3point-perspective. Very interesting, thank you for sharing.
Our past experiences really affect the perception we have of a scene. Thank you for your comments. Enjoy the channel.
