Hi Lo, such an interesting topic. I think it’s important we bring up these scandals every now and then because you’re right, I think some people may be quick to forget. For me I don’t think I’ll ever be able to purchase from balenciaga with peace of mind, but that’s just me personally. That scandal has still really stuck with me. Thanks for sharing.

Such a great topic! I recently found out the Montblanc and many wealthy champagne companies has been also exploiting their workers as well. It seems like almost everything with luxury has some shady practice. And it very heartbreaking. They want us to covet these things for the rarity, precious cultivation of product and design but it’s all a game. There is absolutely no moral and fiscal reason why they can’t produce ethically. Their items already cost an arm and leg for these reasons ( so we thought). After watching the documentary on Montblanc, I realized, these companies want it so. They just hate to get caught with a public scandal and will try to do everything to cover it up.

The world is on such a daily news cycle almost hourly that we forget about controversies pretty quickly as someone else comes up and does something slightly worse. At the end of the day I think our power is in our dollar/euro/yen and if we refuse to support business who have unethical practices they will be forced to change. Unfortunately most of us rarely are willing to sacrifice our desires or wants for the greater good. Great video my friend! Very informative. ❤❤❤❤

Hermes costumers are still going to be “Hermes costumers” The wirkin is for the mass market who want to try a little piece of the dream of owning a birkin. I don’t see nothing wrong with it 😊 In fact the idea of the wirkin might just fade soon as you mentioned! Or it might keep growing 😅 We shall see!!

Thanks for discussing this topic Lo! I have seen many thumbnails about the “Wirkin” but I never watched any of the vids to know the full story. You made great points and I doubt that Hermes is sweating too much, but I do feel like they might still sue just to prove a point. I think this is certainly just a trend, thanks for sharing your thoughts!

I have no problem with dupes at all. But you are right, Walmart is t the first company to provide a Birkin dupe. I do think it will be a fad as long as the hype around the Hermes Birkin remains. Once that dies down the Wirkin will too. Don’t get me wrong the Birkin will still be there but emphasis made on it may be different causing the Wirkin not to matter much. We all know you are purely getting the design for less with Wirkin and nothing else, hence it can’t last long as a topic.

I didn’t understand what the hub-bub was all about. There have been Birkin dupes available as long as I have loved handbags. I guess the Walmart one coupled with TikTok and viral moments they all just came together making this one a bigger deal than normal. But the style bag isn’t new. I do think there are people who like that specific silhouette but don’t want to or intend to spend thousands to have it.
