Roof inspection 1 of 2, plus a little fun flying
Experimenting with roof inspection. Fixed camera - not the right way to do this, but it's a start

Roof inspection 2 of 2

More detailed look at a missing piece of flashing. Not sure you could see this from anywhere but a drone - can't see it from the ground and would take a bold person to see it from the roof!
Evening flight at the field - spotting other RC planes!
มุมมอง 394 หลายเดือนก่อน
Starting off watching a nice biplane land below me with one second short flight to get a better landing, some nice views as the corn in Iowa starts to dry down, then watching a F16 EDF flight! Definitely a big speed difference - I kept turning at mid-field to get some views. Fun evening for sure!
Forward facing video - first mission planner flight
มุมมอง 284 หลายเดือนก่อน
Need to edit both of these together, but the rear facing video of this flight caught another RC plane crashing. Flew one circuit of the field as a mission. I think Mission Planner flew it at 100 feet above the ground - I had intended for it to be 100 meters for some safety factor, but it worked! I learned that the standard pattern we fly at the field is much closer in than the mission I planned...
Mission planner flight with crash!
มุมมอง 484 หลายเดือนก่อน
Crash is at 4:10 in the video - look just to the right of the vertical stabilizer. The plane that crashed is on the stand at the beginning of the video. We walked into the corn and found the plane. Unfortunately a total loss. Looks like the elevator linkage pulled out of the connector.
One last search and rescue video

Central Iowa Aeromodelers flight

Second flight with ELRS and variometer. Note to self: don't take off downwind. Got lucky, but sketchy takeoff. Got it turned around upwind and was OK. Not much for lift. Got battery voltage added to my telemetry, still working on GPS altitude.
Ada Hayden evening sailplane flight
มุมมอง 526 หลายเดือนก่อน
First flight on ELRS (new to me radio system), first flight with a variometer, which tells me if the plane is rising or sinking. This allows me to 'hear' lift on my transmitter. Tonight there was very little lift, but this should allow me to learn to glide better. Overall good flight - lots to learn!

KI Sawyer 87th FIS Open House 2 Jul 1972
Wow.. I was 3 going on 4, my family was stationed here for 6 years of our lives. My little brother was born on base 1970. We lived on Albatross 😍 My dad was a crew chief, tech Sargent E6. B-52
B-52 pilot at K.I. from 1976-80. Winter pictures looked the same then as well. Month I arrived was when a KC-135 carrying several bomb squadron crewmembers crashed at Wurtsmith AFB (I believe) and I took over the crew of a pilot who was killed. Also there when a B-52 crashed on an approach into K.I. Sawyer. Had two snowmobiles and a ski boat and we spent a lot of time enjoying the great outdoors of the UP. The steak and lasagna at a restaurant in Marquette was to die for (Don't remember the name). Visited there again in our motorhome in the 90s after the base closed and looked at our old house on base. Don't know how the area survives now that iron ore mining and the base are no longer in operation. Keith Green, Lt Col, USAF, retired.
I am from Hayward,WI West of KI Sawyer. I put KI Sawyer on my dream sheet but sent to Ellsworth AFB SD. 28th FMS welding shop from August 1976 to December 1979. Very similar duty stations, northern tier bases in SAC
My Uncle MSGT Hollis Moore was a boom operator in Air Force Systems Command. KC-135, KC-97,and KB-50
nice vid, new sub too
Great video! I caught this in North Bend, NE 😃 Im your new sub!
1972, Obbie Lee Cobbs USAF, was stationed at KI Sawyer AFB and picked up girl named Beatrice Whitlock who was a high school classmate of mine in Munising. He attempted to rape Beatrice and she fled from his vehicle. Cobbs chased her into the woods and beat her to death. He then tossed her in front of his car and ran over her getting stuck in the ditch with her head wrenched up under the wheel well. Cobb's story to the Munising police was that he picked her up hitchhiking in Marquette and rolled the vehicle and she fell out of the car. He was charged with murder and pled guilty to 2nd degree homicide and was released from prison after serving just 3 years. The USAF never apologized to anyone in the community for the loss/suffering. Unacceptable...
Looks amazing!
Love it
Nice flight! Good views
awesome video! really cool how it uses the propeller just to get to altitude and glides back down
Being a pilot in a model airplane looks like more fun than in a real airplane!
This would have been a brutal flight! Too windy for a big glider
Despite their age, both the KC-135 and B-52 tail numbers that are distinctly legible are still flying today with the AF Reserves. Appreciate you posting the video (and not dubbing any unnecessary sounds or music).
Glad to see this. I flew the slot in one of the formations. It was my last F-106 flight.....I moved (PCS) to Davis-Monthan AFB, AZ the very next day on a U-2 assignment. Thanks for posting.
Sad to know none of this exists. Base is closed and the planes are in museums.
Be better if you can dub in sound.
Didn't want to add fake sounds - recording then only recorded video
Northern bases suck.
Yup I was at Kincheloe same winter. We had more snow blown off from Lake Superior. Thanks for the memories.❤
Yes, was at Kincheloe 72-77 135 crew chief and later job control. Bought a Ski Doo first thing in Aug. rode it in oct. Belive we had 300" that year.
Wow! We used to get so much more snow!
Guess the climates were changing.............
Stationed at Malmstrom, 78 - 82. Cold as heck till chinooks winds blew in.....Remember one February 79 day.....65 in the afternoon, by midnight -5 !
Hand salute brother ! Stationed in Texas and England while USAF. Definitely prefer a warmer climate :)
Love the F-106...
Wonder if I was here at this show, I would've been 2. Our Dad was stationed here 71 to 75, fond memories of KI Sawyer except the daycare.
Not now or ever in the service but I love Sawyer AFB videos… keep ‘em comming…
I was in Minot, 78-81. This sure feels familiar😊 Thank you for sharing. Thank you for serving!
I was stationed there from around mid to late March 85 through April 88. Corrosion Control Specialist was my given career picked for me by the Air Force. Put a LOT of paint on the B-52's and KC-135's stationed there. Even had a special job of completely painting one of the old McDonnell F-101 Voodoo that still sets on display on the base by an old model B-52. Was told that the last normal seasonal snow fall by the people stationed on the base was right around St. Patrick's day. The St. Patrick's day snow storm of 86 dropped 2-3 inches shy of 3 feet of snow over that weekend! A LOT of good memories of that place that I miss...
ok im sorry but you got the most backrooms ass lookin neighbor hood i've ever seen the only thing keeping that away is the guy on the right with his garage open
Fpv?
What drone
Older carbon fiber framed drone. 2217 1000 kv motors with 10" props. My HUD running arducopter on the Speedybee f405 v3 was only showing 45A, but that must be per motor. This was a test of my 21700 3s3p pack. Apparently too heavy and pulled too many amps
@@scottiniowa1 I am getting the DJI AVATA for Christmas, my Best friend built his first ever FPV
Are those 102's?
106s
Do you mind if I use this in a documentary I am making?
No problem!
Make sure you check out the other two on my channel - feel free to use all three
@@scottiniowa1 thank you so much
I served with the 62 FIS Sept. 68 to Feb 14 1969. F-101 s😊
I was born at K.I.Sawyer 8-4-1972.
I was too! January of 72
I was born there 10-27-71
Neat!
Good day Scott , my name is Todd Perry & my father Anthony (Tony ) Perry was at Duluth with the 87 & KI sawyer , not sure of the years but would have been somewhere around this time . Did you serve there ?
My Dad did at KI, but in the early 70s
Looks like it was a well-cultured place - a few good ole' _Plymouths_ in this clip.
Chrysler products started in the arctic conditions when all other brands failed. I know..lived there & drove 'em! Chrysler/ Plymouth/ Dodge.
I reported there in January of 1973. Don't remember the snow conditions at that time. Maybe I just missed it? From 73 to 74, though, we had a lot of snow. GREAT for using my snow mobile that just about EVERYONE had! I was told that it had snowed at K.I. in EVERY MONTH except August. True or not true. I don't know! I sure miss that base and that area. I went back in 2021 for quick "look/see". Not the same OBVIOUSLY!
I think the winter of 1970--1971 had more snow.
Was there at that time period OMS tanker Branch …pulling alert heating water on the tankers …can’t say I miss that , but had a good time and lots of TDY time from KI …always volunteering to go!! Thanks for sharing the video .
God, I wish this video had sounds and smells. The pungent smell of the flight line and the sound of a taxiing 106 is etched on my brain. And I miss hearing the barely audible click and buzz that preceded the playing of retreat at 5pm. You had 3 seconds to get into a building or be forced to stand there saluting the flag for 30 seconds. (We would always turn and salute the "Someplace Special" sign on the water tower instead.) I miss it and I don't.
I would miss NOTHING about that. I have no idea how you could.
My home during the same time. 410th bomb wing .Bomber Phase Dock. Msgt Keuhner and Tsgt Skutley we're my bosses. Sgt Barrett trainer
how awesome to see them all in motion again... thank you!
As a kid I lived on KI from 1964-1972 loved those open houses!
looks like FUN
