This is another one of Elgar’s most popular pieces. It’s a heartfelt movement of his Enigma Variations featuring movements inspired by friends and acquaintances around him. One of those, Mr. Jaeger, was a very supporting music editor, and the title refers to the Old Testament’s Nimrod as “a mighty hunter before the Lord,” since the word Jaeger means hunter in German!
Out of all pieces in the volume, this is unfortunately the least suitable for piano adaption since it relies on a thick string sound to keep the music alive at a slow Adagio tempo. But I wanted to include it anyway, and we can still feel the right harmony and melodic movement in our hands playing it. But because it’s very hard to imitate this slow-moving string sound, I would suggest a somewhat faster tempo than any orchestral recording. And of course using the sustain pedal.

SIMPLE SOLUTIONS
The Simple Solutions series came from the idea that even not-professionally trained pianists should be able to enjoy the feeling of playing great music from the piano repertoire with their own hands. This is possible with some clever rearranging of the musical material: reducing the range of independent voices and jumps while preserving core ideas of melody and rhythm. In this easier setting, you will instead have enough time on your hands (literally!) to bring the music to life and care about those aspect that often otherwise come second: phrasing, articulation, dynamics, and balance. This will help you develop your over-all musicality, which will be of great value in all other pieces as well.
In the end, if you feel ready for a challenge and want to go forward with proper piano studies that requires years of practice - you can always move on to more advanced arrangements or original piano compositions. They will always be there. In the meantime, these arrangements will bring you close to the same enjoyment as the full versions, because all musical ideas are carefully conserved.
They are just a little bit easier.

    Such a wonderful arrangement, but I must say, it would've been better if you stuck with the original key Db, I've played the original solo transcription and I think it sits under hands unexpectedly well, although I haven't tried your arrangement, I think it will have some weird hand positions, not saying it's a bad arrangement not at all, but an idea you may consider it ❤

      I have it in the original Db major too! And I agree with this piece, that suits the hands better. It's often a compromise because it's easier to read and kind of see the music in simpler key signatures. Here it's most of all the first phrase that ends with a sixth that's the most unfortunate - it's really needed to fill out the sound and in Db it works much better than in C. There is a video in Db coming soon, when I get the time to edit it!

    this is great thanks! Learning it at the moment and have noticed for the 1st note in the right hand of measure 15 you play a D with the thumb instead of an E. Is this the correct note?

    After learning the orginal piece i just found this and have to say it sounds realy good. I think for my next project of learning all chopin nocturnes i might look into this for op.9 no.1 an 2

      Because it’s simplified but when I checked the buying page, it said that you could obtain 2 versions, the one showcased in the video and the one in the original key.

      Yes, both versions (easy and original key signature) are simplified arrangements.

      It's difficult to say but I have aimed for around grade 5.
