      If you really want to keep your heels down you can only make second serve ( topspin ) because you don’t need to rotate in that serve and you will loose some power in your serve. But if you just serve with rhythm ( not looking for power out of the legs ) then you can also serve the first serve coming of slightly with your heels in the rotation part

    @bmtspain6839 I have played with weak and strong eastern, semi-western, western and hawaiian. I've also experimented with straight arm and bent arm structure. I've finished over the shoulder, under the shoulder, hip, lasso reverse "buggy whip" finish and semi reverse finish. I have realized all coaches teachings have a place. Grips and your intention are a major factor in the finish. I notice you're using more of an eastern grip which makes it more natural to finish over the shoulder. If you stick out your arm straight 45 degrees from shoulder to shoulder line and do internal shoulder rotation, you'll notice the racket head will go below the shoulder. It's not exactly what the pros do but that's the basic idea on some pros such as Nedal's forehand. Also if you look at Medvedev who finishes over the shoulder, he finishes below the shoulder on wide short balls to impart more topspin. So maybe in the beginning only finishing over the shoulder is good (as you have suggested in this video), but the higher you go all finishes should be part of the arsenal.

    • @bmtspain6839
      @bmtspain6839 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@traderone9377 indeed 👍 just like I said in the video for shorter balls you go to the other elbow ( that’s how I teach short cross ) but in a rally from the back I teach shoulder which like medvedev gives power and spin 😳 so making a statement that finishing over the shoulder is hurting your forehand the most and not having power and spin and hitting long is a very bold statement and laughing ( like he does in different of his videos ) with other teachers that teach and that’s why I made the video

    I think this is sometimes where cues need to be in full context. Total beginners have no idea to lag the racquet and the explanation by the Tennis Doctor and Meike are good ways to start learning how to lag the wrist. But I also think you are right that the wrist does make adjustments to help with ball tracjectory. For those who naturally lag, this cue is unnecessary and may lead to mistakes. So the lag cue can be helpful to create lag but if taken to extreme you'll have a locked/stiff wrist and that will take away power and possibly control as you suggest.

    I don't think finishing over the shoulder is either necessary or wrong. It's a good educational device in order to have a full swing path, as the area over the shoulder allows for more follow through. But it really depends on the swing path and its purpose. If you are hitting excessive topspins Nadal style, you might finish over your head rather than the shoulder. If you are hitting slingshots like Sinner, the whipping motion might finish around the left arm. Even Federer, who had one of the most beautiful and effective forehands of all time, rather finished around the shoulder than over it. Of the big 3, Djokovic is probably the one that has the most traditional swing path, over the shoulder. So yeah, nothing wrong with it, unlike what this self proclaimed Tennis Doctor says, but also not absolutely mandatory, as you can see from some of the best players ever.

    When I first saw this video, I thought this was horrible advice. It seemed all backwards and focusing on turning the hand against the ball seems to go against all the conventional wisdom--keeping the contact zone stable and not wrsiting the ball. But, in fairness I thought I'd give the concept a try--maybe out of desparation. But turning the hand helped me focus on my contact point, drive better throught the ball and added weight and depth to the ball. It's not that you are making the stroke wristy, you are letting the momentum of the swing carry through at that point. And he is right, once you get a feel for it you can then incorporate it into a hip driven stroke using the kinetic chain. Another plus if you are late, off balance or on defense just execute the turn of the hand and you'll be amazed at what happens. Good advice despite my disbelief.

      @bmtspain6839 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SquatLife thanks for the comment and I’m glad you tried it . A lot of people are in that disbelief because it was mis presented how to use the wrist . It’s not flicking or snapping !!!! Turning the racket out of the hand is starting flexion but once you made contact it’s finished unless you really focus on snapping which off course we don’t want . That principle you can use for all the strokes minus the slice. Good luck and try also to finish over that shoulder in the same swing

    Finally, an instructor who tells it like it is. So many other instructors are in denial, claiming you should not flex the wrist at all just prior to contact, hitting the ball with a fully lagged racket. But when you view their demo videos in slow motion, you will see them flexing their wrist just prior to contact. Others claim that the racket acceleration just prior to contact should be "natural." Nothing natural about it. When i arrange for the racket head to accelerate just prior to contact, my body caused it to happen either by slowing down the wrist allowing the racket head to catch up or by actively snapping the wrist.
