VIA Metro Streetcar
This was a video I recorded in 2019. In the months after this video, the streetcars VIA Metropolitan Transit owned and operated were put out of service indefinitely.
Not only that, but Alamo street was closed and integrated into the historic Alamo area. Furthermore, the shops across the street from the Alamo are going to soon be closed as well for other endeavors the City of San Antonio has planned.
Recorded 12/14/2019
This video was uploaded from an Android phone.

    Glad I saw your review because thought it was broken. But now know it takes a few min to turn on/off

    These are awesome bulbs. I have the 13 watt version (100 watt equivalent) in my front light. It works great, turns on when it starts to get dark out and off when I senses daylight. I have all GE bulbs some are 6 years old and still work perfectly.

  • @mikedavis5263
    @mikedavis5263 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I tested this bulb outside during daylight hours to see how it worked. It turned off after a few minutes, like with your demonstration. Then I covered the sensors to turn it on, but nothing happened, at least not quickly like when you turned out the lights in your video. I'm hoping that the sensors were picking up light that I wasn't able to seal off with my fingers. Any comments?

    trolley?

    • @cherrysdiy5005
      @cherrysdiy5005 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that is correct. These recreations of trolleys, as buses, were in service for around 40 years in downtown San Antonio. Sadly, the pandemic ended the usefulness of these streetcars. And with scooters and e-bikes being prevalent, there was little incentive to bring them back I imagine. I also have heard that the streetcars did, "breakdown a lot." The routes these buses ran on were handy for traversing the city. I never had any issues with the streetcars. Sadly the elderly and disabled no longer have an easily accessible and quick bus route to get where they need to go efficiently. Since now the regular old routes don't cut through downtown as frequently or conveniently.

    I bought this same bulb today and installed on my porch in a recessed fixture. It's not working. What did I do wrong?

    • @cherrysdiy5005
      @cherrysdiy5005 ปีที่แล้ว

      It could be due to the recessed fixture itself since I assume you leave the switch on for the lamp to do its thing. Because even if it was too dark in the recessed fixture, the lamp would stay on and never turn off. But you say it is not working, which could indicate that the lamp is defective. Which is possible, I've bought some lamps that just never worked. I returned them and got replacements that did work. Unless your recessed fixture has some sort of electrical issue. Which would be the last conclusion if it won't even work with regular lamps.

    The perfin (PERForated INitials) is probably MCRR which was most likely the Michigan Central Railroad. The perforating machine was probably set up for smaller definitives so that's why there is a partial overlap. The cancellation on the 14c American Indian stamp is known as a precancel.

    yeah you're right, they didn't give a better directions for install. I also figured out that, power switch need to be turn on and light bulb color is mild orange or yellow. what it does. its recalibration light difference in 5 mins of waiting. After recalibration (5 mins) it turn bright white also mean its completed.

    Switch mode power supplies for radios? I'm kinda skeptical as these things introduce a lot of high frequency noise. I'd rather go with a good old style transformer and linear regulator kind.

    • @cherrysdiy5005
      @cherrysdiy5005 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very true. But for quick and easy DIY, it works 😁 I find the transformers are usually absent as they get bought for copper scrap, and it's more difficult to find an affordable one for the voltages I require every so often.

    Should a switch mode power supply really be called "transformer"? Sure it has one, but it works on tens of kilohertz AC which is then rectified.

    The way your Satco neon lamp failed is the same exact way one of mine from Satco did! I thought it was because I used it base up and it got too hot but I took it back to the store and exchanged it for another one that worked fine. Not sure what exactly happened... Anyway nice demonstration! Reminds me of placing these bulbs next to a plasma globe! Where did the find the little ignitor? Never seen one that small.

    • @cherrysdiy5005
      @cherrysdiy5005 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah yes, it must've been that it was left on for a while, plus possibly inferior internal circuitry. My Uncle gave me the little ignitor. He got it from a coworker many years ago. I can only speculate it was utilized in highly specialized machinery. My Uncle would tell me that his coworker always had pockets full of various things like transistors, capacitors, and the like. And that often said coworker left behind some of the aforementioned parts. Definitely some interesting provenance!

  • @Parrot175
    @Parrot175 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wonderful review! Funny how these seem to break at the base for whatever reason. I didn't expect the phosphorus to wipe off that easily I just thought it was paint really!

    • @cherrysdiy5005
      @cherrysdiy5005 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can only speculate that they underengineered the process of the glass fabrication. This may very well be more widespread. Perhaps only for the certain years. But your garage LED and my LED share a common failure, they both broke when exposed to prolonged periods of cold. The room I had mine in was relatively disused and not heated in the Winter. Also, yes that phosphor was nasty! Bleh!

      Thank you very much. I wish that I could have showed you what I saw in my home as a child. We had many pressed brass and cast iron chandeliers. The ceiling fans were necessary, though. Summers are much more bearable. But those chandeliers were beautiful, wish I had at least one still with us. We did have one last pressed brass chandelier in the dining room. It fell onto the table and almost hit my Mother's head. She was the only one in the house at the time. The Chandelier had to go after, it was just a bad reminder.

    That's a cool little inverter you made! I even learned something today, never knew those little 120v LED night light bulbs could glow on such low voltage. I suppose that's because its also low in wattage and is an LED after all? Probably would he harder to lite a higher wattage LED like 10watts this same way?

    • @cherrysdiy5005
      @cherrysdiy5005 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do think it would be much more difficult to operate a 10W, if it does barely manage to light up. Although I could put that to the test! The LED in the video runs on 30mA so it is pretty good on the current just from the battery alone. Just as you can use a 120VAC 7w C7 bulb on it. It will barely glow however, but gets a nice warmth. I just happened to test that off camera.

      Thanks! I was so sad to see the really nice one on ebay without the cord. It still had life left in it, and it's such a great experience to have given it a second life and passed it on to a good owner. I made a big deal about polarity, only to give it a non polarized cord, but it's still much safer since polarity isn't getting mixed up so much because initially they were all in a weird "series". Of course, polarity didn't matter much back then. Anyhow, these auto timers are much better suited to use in rooms other than a kitchen and can be used for lamps or other low draw appliances. Or just a clock on their own :3
