Golf+ - Pro Challenges 2024 - Week 30 - Sand Trapped
This is the Golf+ Pro challenge for the week! This week I completed the 5 challenges in 39 attempts. If you saw my daily tournament upload today, you'll see the same thing repeated here. Something was up with the tracking. It was jumpy and just wasn't consistent. I even rebooted before I played tonight and it didn't help. It just happens with the Quest 3 and the stock controllers sometimes. That's why after playing this one, I just put it down and I'll try more tomorrow. This week the challenges required some precision shots. I used the same swing on several challenges and the results varied pretty widely which meant I just had to hope that the result was what I wanted. I left all 39 challenges in so you can see what I'm talking about, especially on the putt and chip challenges. Maybe one of these days I'll break down and get the pro controllers so I can remove that tracking element.

Like I've said before, I post the bad with the good. I'll just say this wasn't good. I did reboot the Quest 3 before I started playing but something just wasn't right. I was pulling a lot of approach shots to the left on this one. I even pulled a few putts too. I think the tracking was just off. Alright, I'm back. Took a nice little vacation last week. I did manage to get a few rounds in while I was there, but nothing worth posting. I was a little rusty coming back, not having played in days, but I managed through it for around a top 15 finish in the daily. I shot a 60 (-13), but no complaints. I'll give myself 2-3 days and a few rounds before I get back into shape.

I finally broke into the top 20! This was a decent week with a decent finish. My first and last rounds left a little to be desired. I'm still on the hunt for that elusive tournament where all 4 rounds are great. One of these...

Ok, so I basically managed to put it all together in the daily today. I think this is as close to a perfect round as I've had. Of course, anyone can always look back to that missed putt or bad shot, but I more than made up for it. I birdied holes I had no business birdieing due to phenomenal long iron shots and great putts. This is the Golf Pro challenge for the week! This week I completed the 5 challenges in 16 attempts. Again, one challenge got me. It was in-between clubs to a circle. Diamond - Amateur - 21 total ranking. Ok. So I tried. I was targeting at least 5 under in order to get and stay in the top 10. I could only put together a 67 (-3) to be currently in T-11. If you want to watch the ball in the air click the trigger on the back of the controller when the ball Moving or your ready to hit
I know about it during a normal round. I'm a real life golfer and watching it from where I hit it is just habit. I do watch it from the air sometimes if I want to see certain things or how the ball reacts when it lands for future rounds. This particular one is a replay. Are you saying you can do that if you are watching the replay too? I haven't tried that.
Keep up the great work!
Thanks, will do!
You're showing above excellent golf skills
I try. Thanks for the positive comment!
That's a terrific Ace and thank you for the different camera angles!
Yea, super happy with it. Just a combination of the different replay angles.
Is this on psvr2?
No, it's on the Quest 3.
Good video and congrats on the great score!
Thanks!
This game looks fun! Is it like walkabout mini golf and a Tiger Woods VR game combined into one game?
Kind of. Walkabout is just mini-golf. This is full golf on a course, but using the Quest 3 VR system.
Gotta get back to playing this.
Yes, you do! :)
Another excellent video, very informative
Glad you enjoyed it.
Keep up the good informative videos, I'm enjoying walkabout mini golf on psvr2 and I'm struggling to get new records so I appreciate your videos

How do you keep your battery at 100 all the time? Mine goes from 100 to 0 in like 35 minutes and I just bought mine.bDo you play with it plugged in? If so, how do you keep the charging cord from getting in the way?
I use the extended battery that Meta sells with the comfort strap. It keeps the headset mostly charged. It's the battery pack that mostly drains first before it relies solely on the headset battery. But even so, on solo rounds, you should get 90 to 120 minutes on the headset alone. Maybe it's older? I'm on a Q3 that's only 7-8 months old. Multiplayer rounds really drain it though. Even with the extended battery, I can only get about 2.5 hours all in if I'm playing multiplayer. I do have a long USB cable if needed, but I don't usually play at one time longer than that anyway. If you run the cable down your back and through a belt loop or something, it should stay out of the way. If you don't have any kind of extended battery for the headset, I'd highly recommend one.
I guess I do because I still don't know the courses well enough. The direction of the wind is the same but varies by up to 10 mph. Still helps a little, mainly for non high wind tournies. I can still shoot 5-10 worse in the real tourney which makes me wonder why I bothered 😢 I'm really not upset though, just trying to get an idea of what other people do. Thanks for the insight. I guess you probably have a young family, job etc etc so can understand priorities. Maybe I'll stop too 🤷 We'll see.
Yea, I've had that happen in practice rounds too. Shoot way better in the practice than the real round. I just decided to just jump into them and not worry about the practice rounds. I do want to do well of course, but I don't care "enough" to be super diligent with practice. It is just a game after all. If I do well, great, if I don't, that's fine too. There is always the next round :).
Hey, just curious - do you play a practice round before you start a weekly? I ask because I do, to check which clubs to use, aim points and see what oddities I might face. I know in high winds they're never the same but I have a reference. Could be wasting my time 😳
I don't usually. I wish I had time to do so though. I haven't played a practice round for any tourney in quite a while. I do think it would help, but I just don't have the time to play that much. Some days it's a struggle just to find the time to play the daily. The days I do find extra time, I usually like to do other games from time to time too. Hence the whole "casual" part of my handle. :). As a side note, the wind in a practice round is supposed to match the actual round now (they updated that recently). At least the direction anyway. I guess mph's could vary a little, but probably not enough to severely change club selection.
I dont understand this - If your swing is causing a slice, isnt the whole point to learn how to swing it where you dont slice it? ITs like playing a first person shooter and no matter where on the screen you aim, you kill your enemy when you pull the trigger. Same with the power assistance, why swing with a half swing but still rip it 280, surely you learn how to swing it fuller and faster but still controlling face and path?
The point is, you have to work within the constructs of the game. With the Q3 for example, a full swing isn't possible because of the tracking. You have to make sure you keep your controller within view of the headset face to remove tracking errors (not as much of an issue with pro controllers or the Q2). Also, since it's a game, it's not real life. I am a low handicap in real life. When I swing my normal path in the game, the game slices it and sends it out to the right (that's not the right result for my swing). So i tune the game to be the result I expect from my normal swing. I'm not going to completely adjust my "normal and repeatable" swing for a game. So I tune the club to where the result is what I feel it should be with my swing. Also, keep in mind, a lot of non-golfers and others who can't do a full swing (or swing on "correct" paths) play this game. They can tune their clubs to match up with their abilities. If they couldn't and all that happened is a crazy push slice every time they swing, they wouldn't play the game. Also, your "shooter" reference is off the mark. The more accurate description would be tuning a weapon to where when you shoot just to the left of the target, it hits the target. Aim at the target, you miss. The tuning in this game is not a "swing however you want and it will always go straight" type of tuning. Once tuned, if you swing left or right from your normal swing, the ball will still go left or right. You still have to swing consistently to get the ball on your intended path. I hope that clears it up. One last thing. The only way to get an accurate flight with your normal swing is a simulator where you hit a real ball. Their is quite a price difference between this game and a decent simulator :)
@@TheCasualGolfPlusergood points too make this game a bit more of a simulator, they need better club tracking, To be honest though, with the vr, and a club in your hand, and able to play against friends, this is pretty good.
@@michaelbrownlee9497 I agree. Tracking is a limitation to really take this game to the next level. There are just some things they can't do yet and bad tracking data on swings from time to time can hurt as well. But all in all, the game is phenomenal. The biggest piece is just to enjoy it. As my name says, I'm a casual player, and I just love playing it.
I love playing this but I’m scared it’ll screw up my real golf swing lmao
It can if this is all you do. Just keep a golf club handy and swing it after you play. You can do both, you just can't neglect it.
Who the fk are you?
Anything under is a good game. Usually, I'm over par.
True. It's all about skill, practice, and time. When I first started, I think it took many rounds before I was under par the first time, even on amateur.
Congratulations 🎉👏
Thanks. It's my first solo win!
Seriously? Quite clearly a -10 to -14 round to be had there 🤷
Hehe, yea, sure, maybe if I know every nook and cranny, which obviously some people do! :)
Pretty well crafted after Rnd 1 at WC.
Thanks.
18th must be annoying. I have plenty experience to know
Yea, that was annoying. I use a Quest 3 and unfortunately I get those shots from time to time. I have a pretty consistent swing and I think sometimes the tracking just isn't perfect. I'm starting to wonder how I would play with a Quest 2 where the tracking is all in the controller.
If a club is clurb, what's a curb? I find the American accent interesting 😂

@@TheCasualGolfPluser I guess you find the English accent funny/interesting in the same way. Clerb 😉
@@brianhewettful It's probably more my southern accent than general American :).
@@TheCasualGolfPluser I don't know and I don't mean anything by it btw (🤔)
@@brianhewettful Oh I know. No offense taken. All good.
Nice round without holing out from 130 3x 🤌 And holing 70ft putts 😂
No kidding. Probably the best I could have hoped for really.
Just before I see the first hole, I thought there was a lot of luck in these conditions after looking at some players scores. I could change my mind after watching 🤷 I don't begrudge, it just makes me know my score was okay
Yea, Its the toughest conditions outside of Pro greens. I was super happy with 7 under. I have no idea how some of those folks shot more than 10 under.
Irl par 3s often average over par rather than 4s and obviously 5s. I guess the game's similar depending on the course/tees/wind.
Yea, that's been my experience. Especially when they are longer par 3's. Whenever I do well on par 3's (like 2 or 3 under), it's usually a really good round.
You hit a full iron shot and only went a few yards😂
A few yards into the hole.
It was out of the bunker
Yep, it's all thanks to the gator :). He told me what to do before I hit the shot.
That was pretty detailed for your thoughts for the shots. I hope it's useful for you as much for anyone watching. If not, thanks for going through the process. My main problem is (golf) putting after jumping from one speed to another and good feel for 30/40/50 shots from the green. Makes my scoring quite erratic 😢 I'll get over it.
Yes, it's useful to talk it out vs thinking it too. I've also definitely gotten better at those shorter shots with the LW, but I've just adjusted the power settings over time to get it just right for the feel and I think I'm decently good at it now. I think I'm at 58% on the LW, 100% on everything else. Also for putting, a little secret. Use the putter feel slider based on the greens you are on. For example, I started playing on fast greens. When I played very fast, I just adjusted the slider to the left to make it to where I could still putt as if it was fast greens, but I'd get the slower roll. That way, I don't have to change my stroke when I switch green speeds. Now I play very fast exclusively when I have the choice, and I adjust it back down whenever I play fast (on like a daily that forces it) and I never have to change my actual stroke for speed. Cuts my 3 putts down to almost non-existent.
@@TheCasualGolfPluser Stupidly I sometimes forget to adjust the putting feel and worse, sometimes my clubs for course I'm playing. I'm really bad at putting though compared to the rest of my game. Makes me quite annoyed 😥 ⛳😟 But also 😂
I have also done that and forgotten from time to time. My putting was the worst part of my game for a long time. I feel like I've broken through recently and the only real thing I can contribute it to is just repitition. I've seen so many different putts that I'm just getting better at judging the break now than in the past. It just takes time imo.
Bro that’s so fun
Yea, I enjoyed it :).
Hey man good stuff i think if you gave a little bit of commentarythe videos would be 10x better but just keep it up
Yea, I've noticed lately I talk a bit less. Sometimes I have a lot going on around me and I just record the round with the MIC off. The purpose of this channel is to help the average Golf+ player understand my thinking as I play, so I need to do that more.
I know you weren't overly happy with that round but thanks for posting these as I for one find them really interesting, particularly if it's before I've played but also for things I hadn't considered previously on a shot 🙏 👍
No problem!
Good God you take forever to hit. GEEEEZZZZUUUSSS!
What kind of club attachment do you use ?
The Yezro for Quest 3.
Very impressive 👍. Nice round in awful conditions. (I was tempted to DNF 😂😢)
Yea, the T-1 held so I got my first trophy in my medals area. Super pumped!
It looked a bit like speed golf ⛳ after you had a few relatively okay holes. Not like you 😮
Maybe. It was my third round in a row. I played the daily (shot well), weekly round 1 (managed ok), then this weekly round 2 (subpar performance). So maybe my sweet spot is 2 rounds and then take a break. It's interesting to get outside feedback. It didn't feel that way, but maybe it was (as the results clearly indicate). So thanks.
A mixture of good and outrageous. I don't think you can complain about that 🎉
Yea, definitely a mixture. I do love this course though. Very exciting to play. Just need to learn the ins and outs a little better.
With all the assistance the computer give , look like it’s just another kid game.
it "looks" like the computer is giving assistance that it's not. I assume you are referring to shot shaper that shows the line. It's more of a guide. You still have the hit the ball on the right line. If I were to aim left of where that line was, it's going left of the line. I currently play on the Amateur settings which allows for the Shot Shaper. Eventually I will shift over to Pro, where no assistance of any kind is given. So if you want to play the game where it's just you and your swing and that's it, there is a level for that. If there is a trial option, I highly recommend you try it out. I think you will find it's harder to master than it looks.
I do not have the swing option on my drop down menu, last option I see is is tutorial. I am using Meta Quest 2 headset. Does that make a difference?
Game should work the same on Quest 2 and Quest 3. If you want shot shaper on Novice or Amateur, it's in the settings to turn on, then you will see it. If you are playing at the pro level, that option isn't there.
@@TheCasualGolfPluser Thank you. I go to settings but my drop down menu does not have a "swing setting" option as shown in this video. It should be just below "tutorial" but it is not there. This is a cool option, not sure why it is not there anymore. I would hope the Golf + admin would provide an answer. I have a meta 2 and purchased the game a month ago. Thanks again for the reply.
@@donbevans6020 Yea, the swing settings menu pops up when you choose "Swing" after clicking the settings gear icon on the top right. If it's not there and the last thing you see is tutorial and "swing" is not right below it, then it's probably a bug. If your game is up to date with the lastest available and it's still not there, if you are on the golf+ discord, post a screenshot there. All the devs are in there and they can take a look. That option should be there no matter what mode you are in.
@@TheCasualGolfPluser Thanks a bunch, I'll do that.
Have you watched TopherJaims' video on playing amateur? I'd be interested to know your thoughts on his take when comparing it to pro. I don't know if it's truly worthwhile asking you, as your opinion would be in the public domain. Up to you though. You've made yourself and game name public where as I haven't. Still really interested.
Yes, I did. I've actually played with Topher on pro mode before. I think I shot +5 and he shot like -9. It's all a personal choice. Topher dominates (understatement) the Pro tour. He's a very nice guy as well. Fun to play with. If I was as good as he was on Pro (or anywhere close), I'd probably be solely Pro too. I have a feeling I'll eventually move to Pro exclusively, but probably not for a while. This is just a game after all and everyone should play what's is most fun for them. For me, It's amateur right now (and that is where the bulk of players play too). I do play a fair amount of Pro outside of the toruney's to try and hone my game there. There is no wrong choice when it comes to what you want to play.
@@TheCasualGolfPluser I wasn't doubting his character. It was only my take on comments like 'that was an assisted putt' and the like. It seemed a little patronising imho. I play pro too and can't recognise these features in amateur or I'd be shooting 17 under every time. Nothing to do with the person, purely the opinion. As you say, it's a game and should be fun or why play it. I asked purely from a learning perspective. Hopefully that makes sense
Oh, I know. I didn't mean to imply anything. Amateur definitely gives some assistance everywhere. That being said, you can certainly still hit some very bad shots in Amateur. I have still yet to master putting on Amateur. I haven't played the daily today, but it's back tees, hard pins, high winds, AND at Pinehurst. That's even a struggle for some of the best amateur players. I should get to it later tonight.
@@TheCasualGolfPluser I just played the front 9 in practice and wasn't too bad or as bad as I thought before I played. Apologies if I put you in a difficult position. I just enjoy learning. And if you're anything like me, and a Libran (I don't really believe in that) you like balance for a closer perspective.
All good! :)
Loving the daily tourney vids as well as the tips ones. New to the game and they are helping me learn a lot. Fun and addicting game.
Awesome. Glad to hear it!
You've played only 130 something rounds according to your stats. More than me but almost twice as good. That's pretty impressive unless it's a really quick learning curve. I'm using you as my yard stick btw
Measure away :). I wouldn't say the learning curve is quick or super steep but it's there. I do play golf IRL and am decent. So I think the mechanics of the swing, I have a lot of that already. But there is still a lot to learn for VR golf. There are plenty of folks out there MUCH better than I am at this game.
@@TheCasualGolfPluserSame. I play off 5 irl so it wasn't difficult to pick up the basics after calibrating my clubs rather lazily I admit. Poured with rain for two weeks so played VR. Took 50+ balls on range to even remotely feel like each real club didn't feel like a ton of weight. I decided I wouldn't play much VR as a result. Now I just swing a club for a bit after each VR game. I'm getting there. Only played for a month on this. I'm at +9 or +8 on tour. I'm impatient so make stupid mistakes at the atm. I'm trying to play with a bit more consideration now to improve as it's a great game so long it doesn't ruin my real game.
Yea, it does have an effect on the real life game. Just gotta consitently swing that real club!
I have the exact same issue. The ball pushes hard right every single time. I had no idea you could mess with the bias. So I am going to do this!
Glad I could help! it's certainly a difference maker.
Why put a tree 🌲 infront of the 12th tee 😂
No clue. I was a little surprised at that too.

@@brianhewettful Nice!
It was a fluke the second tree kicked into the fairway.
So happy you played before me. Good round too and can't complain about the putter on that round. I await round 2 👏
No real complaints there. If I looked hard, I could probably find a couple of shots I could have made up, but on the other side, I had some shots I had no business making either that turned out well, so I think it all evened out.

I was straight on it.
Thank you, it helps a lot.
You're welcome!
I think putting goes for a lot of people. Cursed stick 😢
Tell me about it. So close on so many putts in this week's tourney.
@@TheCasualGolfPluser I don't want to parrot you but 'same here'. I'm surprised you don't use a mallet in this game.
@@brianhewettful You know I've thought about it, but just haven't gotten around to trying it out yet. I think at some point I definitely will. Who knows, I'll probably kick myself for not trying it sooner!
Hey, awesome videos man, I just subscribed! Quick question: What do you mean by not turning your wrists? You said don’t turn your elbow as well. Does that mean you keep your wrists locked completely? Or do you turn them like in an actual swing but just try not not rotate them?
Thanks. I'm not saying swing like Frankenstein with absolutely no wrist or elbow movement. Basically, it boils down to finding a swing that you can repeat with consistency at a high %. Then adjust all the different settings to get a straight ball flight. I don't "lock" anything. I use a high power assistance so I can bring the club back only about parallel to the ground. That allows me a relatively short backswing and lets me keep my wrist and elbow bend to a minimum. That helps me keep the club face much more square through impact. I have very little wrist and elbow bend since the club doesn't come very far back on the swing and my lead arm stays relatively straight naturally because of the short backswing. That works well for me. But again, the biggest point here is to find a swing that's consistent for you. If it goes a little right with a fade every time (and it's consistent) with no settings adjusted (that's what my swing would do), adjust the settings to have the ball come out left and with a draw bias to get it flying straight. Over time, you can fine-tune it. I've probably adjusted my settings 5-6 times over a few months to really fine-tune the exact %'s I want on the settings. Then once you have a really good swing that goes straight most of the time, you can experiment with different swing planes and wrist movements to hit a draw/fade on purpose.
Great stuff. Thanks for explaining.
You're welcome. Only took me about 5 months or so to get that figured out. :)
If you try ShotShaper, go to the long version video (link in description above) and leave a comment on that video as to your experience. I'm interested to learn about everyone else's experience. You can leave one here too if you'd like :).
Please leave some comments here if you try it. I'd be interested to know if my result is different from anyone else, or if its the same for a lot of people.
