Well, it's your way and if that's working for you, no question then. But, naturally developing relationships can only work if you already have people to develop relationships with. Most don't. So it's crucially important to find the people first.

That’s definitely true, access to people to even build relationships is crucial

I remember the first time that all eyes turned towards me for "the answer". Yeah, isolated, vulnerable, and alone really describes the feeling at that moment. I've learned that with experience has come confidence. All eyes still turn my direction, from my staff, my work peers, and even all the way up to officers of the corporation on rare occasions, for my leadership in my area of expertise. And I can confidently lead because I'm intimately familiar with the subject and "know what I'm talking about". And when I don't have the answer, because of my network of contacts, I can find someone that does. This is a good video Niky. Great subject rarely covered.

the perks of your teammates or employees being your friends do not exist. As much as it's comfortable to be one big happy family, there is going to be a moment when you have to put your foot down, for whichever reason. This is where all the happy hippy commune is going to crash and burn.

Niky, first off, new subscriber here. Second, this is a video that all managers, supervisors, etc. should view. I've been in various management positions (i.e. leadership) since the mid-1980's and I currently manage an international team of people in the U.K. and the United States. I've learned a lot over the years, but the most important is that it is the people that make a manager successful. A good leader is one who has the success of their individual workers at heart is the one that have the most dedicated teams. A position of authority doesn't automatically mean leadership. I don't have to be my team's best friend, but I do need to have their best interest, along with that of the organization, in the forefront of my mind. When the individual succeeds, so does the company.

If you're the manager you have to solve EVERY SINGLE PROBLEM. If I have to do your job for you then I want your salary on top of mine. Stop being lazy and stop being a shit manager. Do. You. Job. That is what you're paid for. If you're not there to manage and solve problems then what the fuck are you getting paid for? Pay me your salary on top of mine and then I'll do your job on top of mine.
