What good is knowledge if it is not shared. It might as well not exist at all.
god dam its not just his voice which is baller its his pronunciation its unique but still clear i could listen to that man say laser all day
Damn if they made a Warhammer 40k live action series, he would make a great Inquisitor.
Wayne Alexander was one of the best actors on the show and yeah, he would. Dude's 81 now, though...maybe if it happened 20ish years ago ;)
There was no need to ever change robots in the game. The jaguar was hands down the best when fully upgraded along with the pilot.
Looks like everything is working game-wise. Now i just need to setup my Linux some more. Been a while since I was on Linux. Some things have changed.
DO NOT TAKE ME FOR A CONJURER OF CHEAP TRICKS.
It's amazing. Even though we know that Spock was revived, and lived well past the age of 200, this scene still brings the tears. The best acting that Shatner and Nimoy ever did in ST, hands down.
He actually did his maru test with the shuttle Galileo, escaping a planet. Just saw a video reminding me of his hail mary play to survive.
Yeah, but he was well out of the Academy by then.
This scene is the same as Star Trek Into Darkness, only difference is the roles are reversed. captain Kirk is in Spocks position and vice versa. i will say this is one of the sadist scenes. also condolences for your loss. it is always rough when you lose someone you love, even more so when you listen or watch something, like this scene where it reminds you of the person you lost.
I think you mean "saddest." "Sadist" means something quite different. ;-)
At the end of the Shadow War, Sheridan and Delenn were discussing the magic going away, and how they should now create their own magic. This episode was meant to be a one-off, introducing us to a mysterious group that we'd never see again. But then they brought them back for another special to give Sheridan advice or warning. Sometimes it's good to have mysteries that are never resolved.
No endorsements thanks, hand of ?
*_"Then perhaps it is Magic. Magic of the human heart. Focused and made manifest by technology."_*
The actress that played Delen was fantastic.
Soooo Harlan Ellison.
? Ben Bova? I guess I can name people, too.
@@JamesRichardsPlays ??? You *do* know Harlan helped make B5 a reality, right? And was one of J. Michael Straczynski's best friends, to the point that JMS is now the executor of his estate? Point Todd here was making is that the writing here heavily reminds them of Harlan's.
@@Ostermond I see. And yes, I was aware of Ellison's relationship with JMS. Unfortunately, I've never been able to be reminded of a writer over the content of an episode. I am pretty sure Ellison didn't write for B5. I could be wrong. My interest is more on the lore, technology and in universe history. Somehow backscene and technical aspects are not that high on my knowledge interests. Also, just poking fun. Another video I had and several Facebook posts have on word or statements similar in opposition to an argument that never goes anywhere beyond me asking to elaborate. And since Ellison wrote my favorite Star Trek TOS episode "The City on the Edge of Forever" (the only technical trivia that has managed to stick with me), I thought it fitting to bring up Ben Bova as he was the only name I actually recalled off the top of my head as a writer for Star Trek TNG. I also haven't had the chance to read Ellison's other novels. Yet. I just got a nice sized box of sci-fi novels and the seller says Ellison is in there.
@@JamesRichardsPlays Harlan Ellison was the voice of Sparky the Computer in "Ceremonies of Light and Dark." And he wrote "A View from the Gallery" and "Objects in Motion."
@@lennierofthethirdfaneofchu7286 The more you know! Like I said in previous posts, I am not much into the background of the episodes. Just a lore buff and such.
One of the best moments in a show with a plethora of excellent moments.
This!
such a great series
Its Good way to describe wifi Bluetooth :) 😊
About that final, magical trick: to see what a real orange blossom looks like, Google "orange blossom pictures" (Wikipedia has some nice ones). The thing that Captain Sheridan is holding looks more like the flower of the toxic and hallucinogenic Datura stramonium, AKA jimsonweed, devil's trumpet, and devil's snare. A hint that things are not always what they seem to be?--But maybe it does smell like orange blossoms....
I dunno...looks like an unblossomed (Yeah, yeah. I make up words all the time) orange flower to me. (I am not a plant expert by any stretch of the imagination) and why would they allow a foul smelling and extremely irritant flower to be on set? Yeah,. it is mostly the sap that causes the irritation, but just holding a blossom can cause a rash. And the Datura in Nevada smell horrible. Not sure what other regional flowers might smell like, but these here suck! Good eye, though and a good reasoning.
@@JamesRichardsPlays Good point, about the irritation and bad smell making jimsonweed unlikely to be used on set. So, that flower could be a Datura look-alike. Here’s a possibility: Ipomoea lacunosa, the White Morning Glory, which is also known as the…(drumroll) “White Star!” (Name of a class of advanced battleships which appear during the Second Shadow War.) Foreshadowing? Or…“for Shadowing?” (The orange-blossom fragrance would be a “technomagical” addition to the blossom.)
@@Carneades2012 Love it. In the end though, it could just be what it is; an orange blossom and due to editing or time constraints, the closest they could find and we're spinning our wheels on this one XD ehehe
Loved Babylon 5 and Crusade and the idea of the Techno-Mage. What is a Techno-Mage ? Someone who uses tech to simulate the effects of magic. 🙂
"We know how to be poor" Oh crap. I think I may be a techno mage!
Best B5 scene ever. We are the dreamers, shapers, singers and makers....
How Democratic of you!!
Well... That is a useless comment 🤣
food issue: I suggest to put 2 workers per field (in order to produce more food). If you complete mission at the forum, you will get more seed
better, but you always should build more water towers and building for food production (and then research center and exploration center)
🤦♂🤦♂🤦♂
Water is never enough! So why don't you build another couple of water tower CLOSED to jettys? Your town is out of water and people are dying. So that's is the main and dangerous issue
Yup. The only problem with my upload schedule, is these lessons get learned real quick. I see an uptick of water stored and not pay enough attention to it till it is too late. You will see that death and come back cycle a couple more times. I think it is episode 8 where I'll finally get into the swing of things and have a steady supply, if surplus of food and water and protective gear. It gets dangerously low as I use it to pay of raids, but I do decide to finally get defense off the ground and stop paying them. I would upload the entire playthrough in one go, but no one is watching more than 5 minutes anyway.
I was impressed by town's area design, but then you forgot to focus on water and food!
I did concentrate on scrap gathering to start clearing the way for the farms. By the end of the episode, I have an orchard and three farms with a fishing hut. As for water, I had the water tower drawing from the wells, but in an later episodes, decided against that strategy and built a peer and at some time, added in a rain collector. By then, I had a decon unit up and running so contamination wasn't a bother. Up until episode 8 or 9, I do go through cycles of people dying off until a proper amount of protective gear was available. I had taken the same strategy I am using now in a test run and everything seemed fine. This seed, however seems to have more droughts, storms and extended periods of radiation events.
First one here.
I have yet to be anywhere where anyone is clamoring to be "first!" At least you commented. ;) I appreciate it.
Little radiations issue: the origin is water, water collected by rainwater collector. The decontamination post doesn't work water. Only water towers with activated filter. So irrigators take radiate water from rainwater collector and it contaminates food fields. So you should give order to irrigation point to avoid water from rainwater collector (water from wells or towers are ok). build more metal recycler!
Yup. I just experienced the better idea of restricting where the irrigator gets water. I already started a new settlement, I have another four episodes set to release for this settlement, then it will be a new one with some things you've given tips about, what I've learned reading the wiki and taking the advice a friends gave, "Forget everything about Banished. They may be similar games, but the mechanics are very different." So, expect the playthrough to be more on point. I've been able to get a steady population growth and still have enough water and food to have a surplus, no outbreaks and settlers reporting radiation sickness. I did play around with the forum for a moment, just for giggles and banished the elderly XD
tip: save professional from farming activity. Just build bigger field (NOT 6X6) and cancel other fields. So following this tip, you should not put a huge amount of people farming.
That was one thing I looked up and was told to KEEP building 6x6 plots, it ensures only one farmer is assigned to the field and all food gets picked up before it wastes/spoils. hmmm.
@@JamesRichardsPlays if you build 6×6 field or 12×12 you need always the same amount of workers
To manage the future researches (they cost resources), you should expand your storage's limits. You find this option on the left of professional icon (the arrow) down on the left menu. Click it and expand every single resources limits. After that build some warehouses. Expeditions are essentials to unlock research blocked. Go out, with 9-12 expedition rations (essential to actions) and try to find research tools. When raiders will attack your town, you can pay them or defend yourself. If you want defend ys you should build defense towers on strategic point. You can fill with professionals but they need ammo. To get ammo: build mine (sulfur) and ammo factory. People will bring ammo to tower only if you put people inside (towers). But you can do it, just when raiders appear. Without raiders' threat, you can leave towers empty.
I start getting more active on expeditions in another episode or two. I notices that storage limits don't change with additional warehouses or upgrading the bus. I'll be fixing that on the next round of recordings. I've already played a good bit.
@@JamesRichardsPlays expand storage limits by that icon, and THEN build additional warehouses. Exp: if you put food limits to 10k or 20k or 100k you will need more space and build additional warehouses
You'd think I would have learned from playing Banished XD Thank you much! The next few episodes are going to have these mistakes... Unless I kill everything and start from scratch.
@@JamesRichardsPlays if you restart, try to redesign your town. I mean: try to divide the residential area from the productive one. If you build cabins too close to industrial area people will suffer negative influence and they will be unhappy.
Now THAT is a habit from Banished, building a couple cabins near further work areas to avoid long commutes. I take it Endzone doesn't have a commute mechanic?
Build more shelters instead of cabins, and build more water towers (to get more water to different jetty)! Why don't you try for expedition?
Still learning the mechanics. I am also looking for a more positive population growth. As for expeditions, the science center is yet to be built I think. I had recorded about 3 hours of gameplay and then broke it up in chunks. I have a new setup, better and crisper recording settings and I am going to spend the weekend playing the game again. And yeah. I was thinking about another water tower and also dealing with the weird medicine production issue as well.
Hey james you might wanna try xmage at some point, its similar to mtg forge
I played XMage some time ago... I don't remember why I never returned to it. Does it also have an AI opponent? I am supporting MTG Forge since they are working on the questing and adventure portion a bit more lately. And yeah. I apparently suck at Magic. 🤣 At least when opposing an AI.
@@JamesRichardsPlays no it doesn't have an ai that plays magic, but there are always around 100 people online looking for a match. I would guess you opted out of playing on xmage, because the original server is dead, everyone is one the beta server now :)
@@julianhacker5013 eh, I'll give it a shot. Maybe a live human will be what I need to be competent at it again. If not, at least I might enjoy another engine. I finished in the top 10 in a grand prix way back in 2000. Thanks for the heads-up!
@@JamesRichardsPlays then we might play against each other soon :) Nice, i was 4 yo in 2000 hahaha
Why just why?
What? dumb enough to strike a golem? I have no answer for you. Or Why Minecraft? the only answer I can give; I keep coming back to play when my other games aren't piquing my interest ;) And people actually watch. They find some entertainment out of me, and I like doing that.
@@JamesRichardsPlays Nah the video is fine it's just confusing how like I can't even put it into a sentence I just.
@@kar-hn 😂😂😂 Is okay to be speechless. Happens to the best of us. 🤣
Garibaldi being based as usual, not falling for misinterpretations of phrases that twist the intent.
Garibaldi is also a by-the-book guy. When Sheridan held Morden without a case against him he just resigned.
4:09 _"With luck you'll never see our kind again in your lifetime."_ And then came Galen.
Yes but remember Galen was a bit of a renegade who disobeyed the order.
I did like that Galen made a point of commenting on Elric's presence - and that voice. RIP Michael Ansara.
2:28 Foreshadowing of Babylon 4?
I don't think so? The context of this entire dialog is all wrong. And the meaning behind it appearing for the previous Shadow War doesn't fit in to the discussion. If we go off of JMS's and the writing teams strict uses of foreshadowing, there would be no point in mentioning B4 at all. the only working foreshadowing is that the Technomages successfully "left" known space and hid themselves form both the Vorlon and Shadows.canonically so far, we only have two interventions of technomages during Sheradin's lifetime, but were largely removed. Besides the foreshadowing of the coming darkness around Earth and the Shadow War, no other foreshadowing mentioned, really.
The only issue with this scene is the line "Maybe, but god was there first". That was either thrown in as a sop for American audiences, or shows hubris on the part of the writers.
I would say a little of both and more. I have had English friends say they same. A Shinto priest, when I was in Japan had a similar saying. It is just a nod to the fact that we still haven't solved everything thing and that there is still wonder and magic in the unknown. I prefer this interpretation as I do enjoy some wonder. Very much the naturalist and atheist, but still; I enjoy the wonder.
@@JamesRichardsPlays I must disagree. Do people automatically say "Bless you" if you sneeze? We were taught that it was polite, but if you think on it, it is superstitious, arrogant and offensive. Another tenet we were taught is that "a person's faith must be respected. Why, exactly? I've been a naturalist since I was a child, and the world is full of wonders. We are seeing more of the universe every day, but there will always be mysteries. The concept of "god" is a piss-poor explanation for anything.
@@andrewstrongman305 ::rubbing hands together:: I so love these level headed conversations. The concept of "god" is actually the perfect concept for explaining the unknown. We ask why something is happening and due to centuries of pattern seeking leads us to a center point, a unity, a "mind" that "makes it so". We are pattern seeking individuals, this has allowed us to survive and propagate as a species. It is only natural that the center is a "something" or "someone", so the superstition persists. So I think the scenario you posit for a sneeze is superstitious, arrogant or offensive? To start; offensive? No. People who do that are only doing what they were brought up with. I have met many people who ask "You alright? I have cats. Is it cats?" So,m offense is not being meant by the gesture. Arrogant? How? A change in someone's daily life, it is required to make sure your guest is comfortable or you want to make sure nothing untoward is going to happen to you personally. I for one, don't mind asking someone, "Are you sick or something? I am looking out for my health." Superstitious? Now we hit the meat. Yes. Very superstitious, but ties in to the idea that we require a response, and that response is usually what we are brought up with. Saying "Bless you" even as an Atheist is not a "Bad Thing". Most Atheists I run into are okay with it. And it satisfies the need for Christians to be validated. Keeps the social mechanism moving without too much grease. Hell. My believer friends find it hilarious that my response with anyone is a smile and "Stop that" is good enough. Your scenario pales when it comes to discussing the idea brought forth in the conversation: "Maybe, but god was there first." You forgot "He didn't need solar batteries or a fusion reactor to do it." I believe, your response is just zeroing in on one aspect of the conversation. it ignores nuance, and a myriad of wonderful and interesting possibilities. What if the "first god" did need it? (take a look at Darkmatter2525 - Power Corrupts series) The point I am thinking is being made, and seeing Sheradin's responses through out the series and what he says, it isn't a Deist jab. It is only a counter argument for a human that is still growing and learning. In a perfect world, I would LOVE to see the removal of all references to deism/theism of any kind removed. I firmly believe that it has done nothing but soil the abilities of mankind to grow and progress. However, in the THIS context, I find it completely warranted. I do NOT believe any faith should be respected. Especially if ti is the source of ANY suffering. Untempered Atheism is in the same boat. We, as a species, still needs the unknown. It still helps to inform our morals. In many instances, the Atheist's morality has been much more preferable to the the others, but like all things, it still needs evolution. We are now in the stage of taking understanding and patience toward those who believe in superstition. No need to go "all ham" and bring the gauntlet down. In my years of debate and discussion, I have found that tactic only spurs opposition. Even for those who are questioning. Much better to use a soft, yet firm hand. Know when to pull back. I will never look at someone who says "Bless you" to me and start a fight. A "thank you" and move on is a better approach. Same with the writing her. Look at everything else JMS has done and you will see the naturalists bent. Yeah, he may be appeasing to the crowd per 1990's and 2000's, but he doe sit in such a way that is satisfying. Hell. Surprised you didn't rail on about the episode when Sinclair introduces all of Earth's religions. I think it is more a testament to Humanities ability to not let a single religion to ideal to dictate life that makes them the stronger species in the universe we know here.
@@JamesRichardsPlays I'm not sure why you think I pick fights with someone simply for saying "Bless you." I either ignore it completely (the correct response to a sneeze), or reply "No, thanks" or "Please don't." I do think the phrase is arrogant and offensive. Who ordained the speaker to go about 'blessing' people without invitation? Never mind the arrogance of prayer itself. It is offensive in it's assumption that the one so 'blessed' is accepting of their religion. "It satisfies the need for Christians to be validated"... so fukking what? Do they ever 'validate' atheists? No, they cannot do so. One of the greatest lies is that "faith must be respected." I respect those who keep it to themselves.
@@andrewstrongman305 I think my choice of words were poor when I mentioned picking fights. Not the intent, just a point in dealing with it. Some do. It was a bad assumption on my part, even if I wasn't aiming to assume. My apologies on that one. As for validation, It is a useful tactic in debate and avenues of query when discussing certain subjects. That doesn't mean that validation is universal, nor practiced and internalized in all my interactions. If my interlocutor is being honest and engaging, they deserve just a dash of it. Almost certainly if they offered their own validation and respect as well, first. I agree those who adhere to it should be respected up until they are influencing policy using it as a justification or impacting my daily life at any moment. I do not respect the religion itself. Having a certain amount religiosity built into scripts is entertaining though. I don't remember the original Battlestar Galactica having so many references to religion, but the reimagined series was filled to the brim of it, but was still quite tasteful given the story.
Greatest sci fi series ever.
Recently I've re-watched B5 and seen just how many possibilities are missed or wink out and are lost due to simple interruptions. The one I think about right now is that time Sheridan is considering what he should do about Byron's telepath railroad that's ending on B5, and how he could set up - guy rushes into the room with some important detail, Sheridan forgets and never solves that problem, which results in a massacre, Sheridan leaving Earth behind to President the Interstellar Alliance, forget about telepaths, perhaps the later Telepath War, and the development of humanity being put back, perhaps resulting in Earth's later near-destruction (as in 'Deconstruction of Falling Stars) and the 'good' future of humanity becoming Vorlon-equivalents being delayed for who knows how long.
I wouldn't say "missed" but outside the scope of B5's 5 year story. JMS only wrote for 5 years. The telepath railroad is one of the many contributing factors to the Telepath War and the evolution of mankind is a given event. We do know that Sheridan is also on a limited timeframe due to Lorien's involvement during the Shadow War. He never actually revived Sheridan and even stated "I cannot create life, but I can breath on the remaining embers" Sheridan knows when he is going to die and had become disillusioned and disenfranchised with Earth Alliance military. He also understood that he had a destiny that reached out further than the Shadow War. Technically, almost all loose ends in B5 are explained or glimpses into a further future.
Little space dragons and vultures pecking at molari....nice touch. Classic.. 👍🥴
So many artists from B5 are gone now. I noticed on the series illustration, Bruce Boxleitner is the only one left alive on that photo.
We still have nine others who were considered Main Cast in all five seasons who are still alive and kicking around this dust ball of a planet. ;) Unfortunately, four of their characters were killed off, one is missing and who knows what the others would be doing if the story continued. If we wanted more B5, we would need not only a reboot starting at The Gathering, but a cast of young and terrifyingly healthy old actors. It is kinda sad, but I have only thoughts of celebration and admiration of what not only the cast, but the entire crew and support staff that made this timeless series. All the political, ideological, societal and moral issues present in the series are STILL relevant today. I finished binge watching the entire series with my 19 year old goddaughter and she thought it was an awesome, poorly budgeted and produced current series. When I told her the last episode aired in 1998, well before she was born, she was amazed. So much so she bought a few USB drives and plans to give them to a few of her college friends.
