This channel exists to help you liberate the beauty of your lawn and landscape, as well as protect it as an investment. It started off as an organized way to help keep my customers informed, but now also serves the internet community. We are located in Central Mississippi and therefore all information that you receive should be read with those "lens". The "fun" thing about agriculture is that it is a puzzle that never gets solved. Not only are there billions of microenvironments within a single lawn, but there are also macroenvironments that make growth factors in one area of a state/country/continent not so relevant to another area. What's true in Mississippi cannot be equally applied in Tennessee, much less Michigan. What's true in the low and shady part of your lawn, is not so true in the high and sunny part of your lawn. Happy learning!
Fall Large Patch
Large Patch turfgrass disease can progress quickly during the Fall and Spring. If you have Bermudagrass, you should not see this disease. If you have Centipedegrass or Zoysiagrass then know that it can occur in those types of turfgrass. If you have St. Augustinegrass, be aware because this grass is highly susceptible!

Is Your Crape Myrtle, Roof, or Surrounding Shrubs Turning Black??

A fungus than moves in to colonize the honeydew, turning the tree black! Give this video a watch to see how we deal with these black trees!
Aerating Your Lawn

Bermuda Lawns in July ( Spurge Weed Highlight )
มุมมอง 4023 หลายเดือนก่อน
The number one difficulty in owning a bermuda lawn, in my opinion, is the inability to prevent certain weeds. Weed control in the summertime is a lot like getting a haircut. There is no such thing as getting a haircut once and for all. You get a haircut in May, then you get another one in a month or two. Some people prefer more frequent than that. So it is in bermuda lawns. In this week's video...

Nimblewill versus Bermuda identification
มุมมอง 6445 หลายเดือนก่อน
Every year I stumble upon a new weed that I never knew anything about before. This summer, it's nimblewill. I thought it was bermudagrass. Upon deeper investigation, I learned that there is a bermuda-look-alike, which tolerates drought like bermuda, but unlike bermuda, it tolerates the shade. This grassy weed is known as nimblewill.

I have been digging mine up 20 min per day. What spray works?
@@redeemerchurchofpace3005 Wherever you have torpedo growing beside or inside of shrubs, Fusillade ll will keep it knocked back (need to confirm that the particular shrub is tolerant of Fusillade). Where there is not a shrub, Roundup works well.
Great job
MSMA will kill most bad grasses in your warm season lawns.
That is true. Unfortunately, MSMA is not legal to use.
Our bark is falling off.
Looks like our house !
Great information! Thank you.
Great job as always!!
I think I have Nim, but it's in sunny spots. I used Meso for the last three years and just now for year four. It kills this year's leaves, but it comes back every year. Is there a preemergent that works?
What is Meso? Nimblewill is a perennial, so once it’s there pre-emergents won’t affect the existing grass.
@@weedwarriorsllc4301 it’s tenacity. It kills the seasons growth and it reappears the following year. That’s why I was thinking it was reseeding and I could use a prodiamine or something like it.
Have you tried something like pulling up a length (without breaking it off) and bagging it to protect surrounding plants, then spray that bagged part with Roundup to see if it can kill the roots?
Have not done that. Usually when a professional gets called, it has gotten so bad that there is no way to separate runners… it’s just an all out jungle.
I tried it a couple times, didn’t work. Torpedo is evil…
I have got a huge problem with Lespedeza! Any tips on how to kill it?
Are you a homeowner or a professional? And what type of turf do you have?
@@weedwarriorsllc4301 homeowner and St Aug! I had Centipede and that’s where the problem started so now the Lespedeza is out of control. I had a lawn care service for a couple of years and they pretty much killed all my grass but now I’m doing it myself and last year I used a three-way with 24 D & that stunted it but now it’s pissed with vengeance. I’m about to try atrazine. I have a 4 gallon sprayer with 15,000 sq ft of yard!
@@weedwarriorsllc4301 I’m a home owner and have mostly St Aug with a little Centipede it I’m wanting the St Aug to take over.
The trouble with trying to remove Dallisgrass or any other weed is, if you have a neighbor that (for whatever reason) doesnt even make an attempt to mow their yard their weeds will become your weeds. Have had to deal with trumpet vine, tree of heaven, and a yard full of weeds from vacant houses next door! After Covid, people are lazy and useless! Thanks for good info!
does this apply to all sorts of grass? like KBG?
No sir, KBG does not have runners like warm season grasses (bermuda, zoysia, St. Augustine, etc). No one down here grows KBG, so take my KBG advice with a grain of salt. I just planted some in my back yard just to learn about it. But I know for a fact it does not have runners. From what I have learned about KBG the thickness of turf canopy is more strongly correlated with how much seed to sow. Mowing always affect appearance, and helps the grass to focus more on lateral growth, rather than vertical. But KBG won’t be thick if you don’t sow thick… regardless of your mowing frequency.
@@weedwarriorsllc4301 Thank you for the info! :)
Good job on your video

Good informative video but that’s not carpet grass
It’s hard to not sound like a smart-elic over digital disagreements. So with a smile, and no smart-elicness, if you would like, I can email you more pictures of this carpetgrass patch. And in case it helps, there are multiple varieties of carpetgrass and so they don’t all look the exact same. I hope that helps.
Very good explanation, and some new information for me. Thanks, Jay!
Hey Mr. Burnley! So glad to hear that! Thanks for the feedback!
Isn't it the opposite? Doesn't Bermuda struggle on wet poorly drained soils? There are also a ton of different cultivars of Bermuda. Some very different from others. Maybe even more than zoysia. idk. And shouldn't Centipede be pretty decent with drought? I have no xp with that, but heard it's much better than let's say zoysia. Now, if it get's too intense, like SA it may be totally lost bc there is no rhizomes to come out of dormancy in better conditions. SA like zoysia have shade tolerance that varieties depending on which cultivar. I would like to see a bit more on Seashore, have some going here now. And maybe about carpetgrass.
Nothing loves poor drained soils, but Bermuda tolerates wetness better than any of the four types in this video, hands down. We just had the worst drought on record and centipede definitely performed the worst. We don’t have any seashore paspalum in our area. No one plants carpetgrass in our area.
Very helpful video
Glad to hear that!
Thank you Weed Warriors and of course Jay for all everyone of you do to keep my yard looking beautiful!! Every time I call someone is there to help answer my questions and/or come to fix my issues. You all do a superb work!!

What is the new herbicide for Dallisgrass in zoysia lawns? I have 1.5 acres of zenith zoysia in NE MS and have been struggling using Celsius over the last couple years just to see mostly suppression. But thankfully outside of sedges (normal summertime struggle), I've been able to handle most other weeds. Ty for the informative videos. I know I am one who watches every video you put out there as a DIYer, it has been helpful with little recommendations here and there to apply, esp with you being in MS.
I have a big video release to do this year on the new herbicides called Recognition and Fusillade. Combined they will control dallisgrass in zoysia without killing the zoysia. It’s going to be a big video as not many have heard, much less experimented with it. I don’t know what month I’ll post it, it’s taking a while to edit it. But it will be coming.
1:05 This is Bill Baker. I would like to understand why you don’t treat sedges until June. I see them in early Spring and apply spot treatments of sulfentrazone with pretty good results and if I’m careful it doesn’t hurt my centipede.
I'd like to learn how to get my Bermuda turf grass thick and evenly distributed and uniform.
Good info Jay, looks like sod will be at a premium moving forward?
They are already running from a shortage standpoint because of the freezes last Winter/Spring plus all of the sod people have sought to buy this summer.
Yes, I watch your videos and find them very informative
Great information!! Thank you
Thanks Jay, I didn’t know about the heighth, in fact I always thought the opposite. Good to know
Thanks Jay. I am in hopes that the temperatures, as well as the rainfall for our area will be more stable next year. Maybe if that happens it will not be such a struggle, and puzzle, for those of us trying to keep lawns and shrubs alive and well. Thanks also to your and Weed Warriors for all your help.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Good info. We had an all day rain down here in Walthall County which saved a lot of Turf grass but to your point there still is a lot of stressed turf. I will be pulling out my hoses today and getting back on rotation. What a summer, will go down in History.

Thank you, Jay.
This drought is no joke! I’m horrified at how my lawn and azaleas look
I am waiting to put out my pre-emergence until there is rain in the forecast. I have mostly centipede , and St Augustine in a few places along with Carpet grass by the road and ditches. I an going to use simozine this fall and prodiamine in the spring. Do you feel that is a viable gameplan? I enjoy your videos keep them coming.
Yes sir, absolutely.

It’s our joy to be helpful!
When the rain comes, and it will our prayers will be answered, It seems when a bare spot in my 80% centipede/ 20% Bermuda yard develops the Bermuda grabs that spot a lot quicker than centipede. Over time though the Centipede starts getting it back? Has that been your experience?
Unless it is a low/wet are, or a high-traffic area (dogs/people), or an area that receive a lot of Spring pre-emergent, then the centipede always wins the 1 on 1 battle in my experience. The old-timers taught me to look for that, and I have witnessed as well. … As for the rain, we certainly need to be humbling ourselves and praying for it. As a society we pridefully assume we’ll always get it instead of seeing it as mercy to be thankful for. To your point, we need to ask with faith, but not with presumption (James 4:13-16, 5:16-18).
Great response and thanks for the insight of the old timers my friend.@@weedwarriorsllc4301
I have been watering for a month and half everyday now and it is tough to keep up manually, constantly moving my hose and pulsating sprinkler from area to area in my acre and a half centipede yard. As I drive around I see a lot of dead grass here in Walthall county. Newly planted landscape plantings do not stand a chance. Keep up the good work we need someone here in Mississippi working the youtube communication line,
Thank you for that feedback! If you are literally watering every day, then you need to water for a longer amount of time and do it less frequently to encourage deep roots. It will also result in less water usage overall. Search my videos for the one titled “are you watering your lawn correctly?” Also search for the one titled, “Watering your lawn/ Barrel illustration”.
Thank you very much!!@@weedwarriorsllc4301

Im new to the grass care business, though I found white distilled vingear works wonders on Dallas grass, it also doesn't seem to effect Bermuda. Your thoughts?
I have never used vinegar, but would love to hear how it does 2 or 3 months down the road… is it still dead? Dallis is notorious for having a very prominent root system that can keep sending up new shoots if the roots aren’t killed in addition to the leaves.
Just seeded about 400 sq ft of centipede first day of August. I am trying to keep the soil moist for the next 10-12 days. Any suggestion on watering the new seedlings? Enjoy your videos.
Seed to soil contact is very important. If the seed is not directly touching the clay soil then the baby roots will dry out before the centipede plants ever get well established. August would be a VERY difficult to sow seed and keep the new seedlings wet enough to not dry out. You will need to water a lot. Straw or sand could help the soil retain the moisture better.
@@weedwarriorsllc4301 Thank you very much Great info
Weed control is a pretty complicated business. There are thousands of variables that affect the germination of seeds throughout the season. According to who you ask the answers is always met with more questions? I enjoy your videos.
Isn’t roundup facing a 2.5 billion dollar lawsuit right now? And didn’t the CDC just release a report that says 80% of the blood samples they tested have detectable levels of weed killer in them?
The IARC, who said Roundup was a Group 2a “probably” carcinogenic, also classified alcoholic beverages and processed meat at as Class 1 carcinogens. Not “probably”, but IS a carcinogen. IARC measures hazard, not risk. There is a MAJOR difference. At certain concentrations these things are carcinogenic, which is why you shouldn’t drink them (including alcohol evidently).
