I appreciate what this imam is saying, but I think he is wrong about why people were delighted by the Algerian imam's easy, casual tenderness to the disruptive little kitty, while not missing a syllable of his recitation. Non-Muslims (unless they are bigots, and bigots are a problem!) don't assume that all imams, or Muslims, are "psychos." Most non-Muslims just don't know anything about Muslims, or Islam. But everyone, of every faith or no religion at all, can relate to kindness, and also commitment to a meditative, thoughtful practice such as prayer. The Algerian imam, in the viral video, showed both of those qualities within a few minutes, while also sharing the beauty of his voice with millions of listeners who have never been inside a mosque or had any other occasion to hear a recitation from the Q'uran. His concentration upon his prayer, as well as his sweetness to the little kitty, are a gift to everyone of good will who hopes that people of all faiths, and non-believers, can one day come together as human beings in peace.

salaam to my brothers and sisters. I did not watch the video but I want to post what happened to me. I live in Britain and I hired an arabic teacher online who lives abroad. She seemed ok I thought. Then she got very interested and was writing down all about my life - job, children, their ages. She even wrote things like 'I made a mistake giving birth". astigfirullah. I only realised because I copied all the arabic text from zoom meeting and after the lesson I used google translate. She then was making me recite what I thought was a motivational speech. I did not realise, this was more like a spell asking something to rise up and man up. I got the worst illness of my life at this point. alhamdulilah Allah guided me and I realised what had happened. reciting Quran (surah an-naas, al-falak, al-ikhlass). When my husband burned chillies (this is from Pakistani culture too) there was no bad smell from it. Anyway now I know where it came from, I am getting better. but please please please protect yourselves. you don't know who you talk to and what their intentions are. trust your instincts (I had a negative vibe from her but was continuing as didn't want to be mean or impolite). brothers and sisters, please protect yourself. fast, do salah give to charity, do duas and dhikr. I hope this comment can help even one person. (by the way, at first I thought it was just evil eye that was unintentional. even when she asked me 3 times for my birthday, I had a feeling I shouldn't give but I didn't want to lie. Now I realise I had no reason to share personal information even it was being done in pretext of teaching me arabic translation. Allah is Malik-al-Mulk, Dhul jalaali wal ikraam, He is Ar-Rahmaan and Al-Kareem. The Shayateen will burn in Hell forever. I am so glad to have been saved. Alhamdulilahi rabbil 'alameen.
