    Hey! In terms of offer grades for Liberal Arts at Exeter specifically, do they fluctuate depending on what major you want to do? It's asking for AAA but that's not specific to individual majors, and I was thinking that surely some are in higher demand than others? Or do they just see it as an application for 'Liberal Arts' and treat everyone the same, from more popular ones like English, to less popular ones like Drama? Hope this question makes sense xx

    • @nerissaaa
      @nerissaaa 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi - so the grades definitely fluctuate between majors as different departments have different requirements. However, I’m pretty sure that they treat Liberal Arts as one cohort with which they need to fill individual quotas for majors (if that makes sense?) so I’m not fully sure how to answer your question but i think it’s basically the same as applying for other places on non liberal arts courses ! x

    Hey. Thank you so much this has been really helpful. I was hoping if you could tell me how much delay is ok when booking accommodation? I was waiting for my new offer letter and by then most of the cheap accommodations got booked and sold out and only the really expensive ones are left. I was thinking to try booking around July as sometimes people choose to defer or change plans. But I’m afraid I’ll be left with no place and even the cheapest option at the moment will be gone. What’s your advice ?

    • @nerissaaa
      @nerissaaa 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Heya ! So as far as I know accommodation owned by Exeter isn’t allocated on a first come first serve basis which means you could apply as late as you needed to. It’s also done on a ranking basis which means you’re pretty much guaranteed a place somewhere. If you were looking at privately owned accommodation, you would definitely have to book ASAP. Hopefully this helps!

    • @Selesady
      @Selesady 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nerissaaa the on campus accommodation for PG is super expensive. And private student halls, the cheaper ones are all booked. I was thinking maybe if I wait till July maybe something would open up. I am scared however if even the ones available go unavailable

    • @nerissaaa

      @@Selesady the important thing to remember is that there’ll always be somewhere to stay! i would definitely join some of the exeter fb groups (overheard at university of exeter is a good one) as a lot of the time people post about needing flat mates. Hi Nerissa, I am applying to university this year for a liberal arts degree! I just have a question.. When do you have to decide what subject you are going to major in? For example, can you take modules in sociology, politics etc to begin with, and see which one you enjoy the most, and then choose later on which you major in? Or do you have to have decided right from the beginning of first year? Thankyou, Amber.

    • @nerissaaa
      @nerissaaa 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Amber ! At Exeter, you need to declare your major before you start and that happens via email in august/september (as far as I can remember), although this might be different at different unis. However, there’s a lot of freedom and flexibility and I know quite a few people who changed their major or hadn’t declared one in the first few weeks :) if you’re curious, I’d recommend checking out the module descriptions, potential readings and topics, and assessment types on the website and see which ones you find the most interesting. Hope this helps! 🤍

    Hi Nerissa! I want to study philosophy and english at uni of exeter but they don't offer that course unless in chose liberal arts, I am a bit worried about having different core lectures every week that could be on economics for example which i'm not that interested in, it sounds great you are doing all these different topics in lectures but are you going into a lot of depth if it changes every week to something else? Thank you!!

    • @nerissaaa
      @nerissaaa 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Sophie! just want to double check that you’ve looked into Exeter’s flexible combined honours? bc i believe you can choose to do english and philosophy that way if you look into their subject combinations. however, if i’m wrong (which is v likely), then to address your point: you don’t go into depth on every subject you get a lecture on so it can be quite superficial. however, in your assessments, you can choose which subjects you want to go into detail on. for example, i chose to do my final essay on technology and politics in the 21st century - you just need to prove you’re comfortable using different frameworks in your degree (eg philosophical, political, geographical etc.) as that’s the point of liberal arts. even if you’re not as interested in one of the lectures (which is inevitable) you might find you’ll be able to use the things you learn anyway. for example, the economics lecture i had was actually one of the most fun lectures id been to! hope this helps somewhat! feel free to ask any other questions :)

    i’m moving into birks grange in a few weeks and i have a few questions i’d be so grateful if u could answer!! firstly are you really not allowed plug in fairy lights?? i don’t see why you wouldn’t be allowed them. And do they do inspections often? can they go in your room when you’re not there because that seems very extreme. thanks :)

    • @nerissaaa
      @nerissaaa 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey :) So the rules on fairy lights aren't really followed up on. Technically you're not allowed them as they're a fire risk but imo that advice is a bit outdated as most fairy lights will be 100% safe to use and won't overload the socket. I had a bit of a weird experience with inspections. If I remember right, we only had one while I was there (but we were only there for 5 months). I had a woman come in asking me if my lights plugged in. I said yes and she then told me to hide them! She also gave me some of my flatmates lights to hide for her as well! They never actually came back after that. I think they might have confiscated some airers but idk bc that didn't happen to my flat. They are allowed to come in while you're not there but they leave a note to tell you they've been. They're not allowed to go through draws or anything, they can just look at what's on your desk and no more than that. Before inspections, they send out an email about a month in advance telling you what date it will be, so there are no 'surprise inspections' or anything. I wouldn't be too worried about it! Hopefully that helps :)

      honestly i can’t give you an amazing answer bc i don’t know much about studios, however, while a lot of socialising does happen in flats, most of it happens in lectures/seminars/socials etc. regardless of where you’re living you’re going to be meeting lots of new people. plus you can always go to other flats for dinner or to hang out if you have friends there so i wouldn’t worry too much :)

    • @nerissaaa
      @nerissaaa 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hiya - 1) so i actually requested (on the questionnaire) to be in a flat with a girl from my course who i met on facebook and we were literally in the rooms next to each other! if you don’t request that then i think it’s all down to chance. having said that however, i think in my flat half of them were doing science / engineering courses so i think it depends on what answers you give in the questionnaire. 2) if you’re a slow walker, it might take you around 20 - 25 mins to get to main campus. but you’ll probably get used to it and get faster as term goes on. 3) i pretty much ended up going to main campus every weekday except wednesdays as i didn’t have class on wednesdays. sometimes i’d go up on weekends to go to the shop/library. i’d usually stay up once i’d walked up until my last class but it’s easy enough to pop back for lunch :))

      Hiya! I'm glad the video was helpful :) dw about asking questions- that's what I'm here for! 1 - imo I really appreciated having an en-suite. It was just nice to have a bathroom all to myself. That being said, friends from other unis who have shared said that they didn't mind having to share, so it's all personal opinion. Think about how comfortable you would be going to the bathroom in the middle of the night or how comfortable you are with other people. These might not even be issues at all. My flatmates and I did all agree though that we liked having our own bathrooms. 2 - I really did enjoy living in Birks! The people and atmosphere were really nice and it was a comfortable distance from town and main campus. I would definitely say it is as nice as people say it is (but bear in mind it is still student accommodation) 3 - Birks was my top choice! 4- townhouses are behind the central catered block. As far as I could tell, they looked really nice and sociable. (I'm gonna ask a few friends and get some more info re recommendations, pros and cons, distance from town and campus etc. but I hope this was a bit helpful)
