Lenny Breau was just brilliant. More than brilliant! He was a great harmonizer, and just seemed to know exactly which chord sounds would work in any song, but he always served the song. Lenny Breau wasn't about showing us how good he was, he was about showing us how good the song was. Thank you, Lenny, for the beauty you brought to the world.
Into the wild and wonderment of this grand, jazz standard, composed by George Shearing with lyrics by George David Weiss, came Lenny Breau, taking it to that next level' ! Lovely !
Thank you for posting, Dave, I bought this LP many years ago, second hand, sadly the surface noise was very bad, and, I struggled to listen to it, Dick, plays great.
The line-up: Wes Montgomery guitar Buddy Montgomery piano Monk Montgomery electric bass Billy Hart drums Alvern Bunn congas Clips are from a television appearance on the People in Jazz program hosted by Jim Rockwell at WABX Studio, Detroit in early 1968. Rockwell is seen briefly a couple of times after interviewing Wes.
The host was a patronizing asshole. Wes knew exactly what he was doing because, as he said, he used the instrument to reproduce the sound in his head. That is what all musicians strive to do. Wes was supremely talented based on natural talent, hard work and constant gigging. He was a master of the instrument, but because he was so humble, he didn’t assert himself because it was not necessary. The world was robbed by his untimely death.
👏🏿👏🏿
Wes was so modest and soft spoken, if you didn’t hear his playing you’d never know he was a total badass on the guitar. RIP Wes Montgomery!
O my God so tight a God and what a man was he ?is this one note Samba ?
I wanna say thanks to black people. Without them. We dont have blues and jazz
Great interview

In this recording, the tuning is down about a quarter. Maybe the tape is loose. I wonder if the original performance was faster?

There was no formal training for a jazz guitarist back then; the host is a total jackass. Wes is the mount Olympus of jazz guitar.
Such a nice guy. Died way too young.
I wonder if God has Saturday evenings set aside for Wes and the Fellas to play in Heaven for everyone. 😊
Great interview,Thanks All❤ John Barnett revisited 10 October 2023❤

Wes 😮❤special human being 🫠☮️❤️✨
Does anyone know the date this was done. Wes must have passed away soon after this.
Outside of all the other wonderful things Lenny did with a song, he played with the rhythm in very interesting ways. What an incredible talent!
GENUISis a word for this MAN
Amazing people never heard of Nelson Simon even after Wes was humbled by him!
BUT did Wes actually release this book?
Yes, I have had a copy since 1968. There is one for sale at Amazon.co.uk.
