@@vsonic86 cast and crank. Stock hooks are strong enough. If it bends, loosen up some drag. Watch episode 108. You can see howI cast and jerk rod to give action to a lure

What hook did you replace to make it so that it strong enough to take on Barracuda?
You can use stock hooks for barracuda.

Nice action I fish off of the jetties at Ventura harbor & I used to catch a lot of nice fish but now it seems the fishing has not very good they do dredge the harbor so that I’m sure effects it but I was catching a lot of Calico bass spotted bass lingcod white see pass leopard sharks etc. now it’s slow no Calico or spotted bass just croakers & green rock fish in the rocks. We do get bat rays which I don’t like to catch but they get huge. The last time I went out it was slow but I went out further & was fishing a kelp bed & something huge spooled me I didn’t even realize I was coming to an end of my line so I thought it broke off it did surface once then took off it’s usually a bat ray but being it came up I don’t think it was but I never saw it again.

99% sure that it was not a white seabass. Looked to me to be a yellowfin croaker. Same family, though.
Bro that's a juvenile white sea bass. You can tell by its jaw, and missing dark spots on its back.

I would use Luck-E-Strike jerkbait. It is cheap and pretty good for hali and others.
I enjoyed watching this video, your jig work is fun to watch, brought back a lot of memories. I'll add, what a knucklehead, wanting to gaff a short fish... I hope there is a frog nearby, when he gets done fishing, to check his catch... 😀
