A 47 Cross cultural adoption: so, what does it mean to be a different race to those raising you.
In this video we explore a very common occurrence that is for the most part completely ignored.
Cross cultural adoption and placement is more common that people realize. It is justified and defended. Even when it goes against policy, as here in Australia Aboriginal children need to be raised within Aboriginal families. In this video we explore the reality this creates as well as some of the common price tags that come with it.

There surely does exist an overall societal obsession with money, which while necessary to survival, is often elevated to the detriment of other dimensions of life. I'm curious what your opinion is of the "7 Cs of Resilience," and the trauma-based model for educators and social services, and it's implementation or lack thereof. The 7 Cs of Resilience is based on factors that are protective, and not always under the control of the individual. While perhaps more aspirational than practical, I think the knowledge is still valuable to individuals and social support organizations, in that these are valuable things to keep in mind and some of them are sometimes under an individual's control and can be addressed by the individual - not all of them all the time however. Putting the onus on the individual who is suffering is not helpful when there are lagging interpersonal and intrapersonal skills that are not addressed, including various issues such as difficulty with self-regulation from lack of access to or knowledge about coping strategies, lack of co-regulation to learn from, lack of opportunities for positive social experiences, possible undiagnosed or inadequately addressed neurodevelopmental challenges causing underlying rigid thinking or heightened baseline anxiety - especially without appropriate coping skills, and deeply ingrained trauma responses, and so on ... While trauma-based interventions rightly emphasize individual agency and a paradigm of not trying to control so much as meaningfully support the client, I've seen in my personal experience that there can sometimes be a lack of education and a lack of meaningful support to the individual whose agency they are trying to engage. Personally, I think that some somatic therapy ala Peter Levine, is helpful when self-directed, there is so much more to recovery when someone has been subjected to neglect and or long periods of abuse. I'm curious if you're aware of the works of Dr Bruce D. Perry, Dr Mona Delahooke, and Dr Ross Greene regarding ideas for interventions for children either in the school system or more holistically. I personally admire their work and have tried to learn from it. They explore concepts in neurodevelopmental theories, polyvagal theory, co-regulation, etc.

i will spend a little time in creating an appropriate response. but for now when you look over a several decades time frame. how a persons life plays out, the base that decisions are made from and the reality of what is passed onto to the next generation as in generational trauma. the term resilience when used in association with children. for me doesn't play out. Peter Levine is an excellent therapy base. but he to misses things. with this channel i am just trying to point out some of them from the experiences i have had.

we start by understanding the core nature of our fear states. hat is our body reacting to. then little by little we each and every day develop skill sets we need to address what the fear states by understanding what is actual threat and what is perceived.

i’m a post-birth adoptee who knew my birth family and was put through the foster care system and eventually adopted at age 10, so these videos have been super helpful for me so far. i’m slowly making my way through them, and a lot of what you’re talking about really resonates with my experiences coming out of the fog and trying to figure out my next steps and how to heal and sort of find myself i guess. for so long my identity was repressed by my adoptive family to the point where i don’t really know who i am. and learning about all of this and trying to understand it definitely feels like a really good first step towards figuring that out, so i’m genuinely so thankful for this series and wanted to let you know that.

thank you for your comment and support. for all of us trying to make some sense of our identity is so challenging. i will continue to make these videos and continue to hope they are helpful. coming from the fostercare system in the way you look at sorting through memories. try separating them into two piles. 1 prior to adoption and 2nd post adoption. it is helpful as the prior is a 2nd set of repressed memories and sometimes they contradict, due to the temporary nature of fostercare placement and what we are required to do to be part of in an adoption placement. i have found knowing what we are looking to create for ourselves is also helpful. please feel free to ask questions and email me if they are more personal. aboxwithnolid@gmail.com

TRIGGER WARNING, ADOPTION TRAUMA AHEAD hello Bear, First let me say how sorry I am for what was done to you , your family of origin and so many other native and indigenous peoples. I have friends that were stolen from their families in Canada and placed with families in the US, I've seen the devastation that it causes. But that's not my story, I was a scared 15 yr old that needed guidance and support, what I found was exploitation in a crisis pregnancy center. They manipulated and conned me into turning my baby girl over to them at birth. And then they sent me on my merry little way, "to forget about it and take advantage of the second chance that I had been given and never look back." that's all I can say, as I've just triggered myself. Thanks for making this channnel and speaking the unpleasant truth! blessings
