Triumph broken down again! New CDI and Coils.
The Triumph was playing up. I thought it was carbs, but I had to buy a CDI from British Bike Bits ( TTP Firestarter) and new coils from Hinkley Triumph Australia.
Hi, my name is Woody and I live in a little town named Biggenden in Queensland, Australia.
I am married, with adult children and a growing herd of grandchildren.
I like making videos about tools, such as Bahco, Sidchrome, Kincrome, Snap-on, Nepros, Koken, Gedore, Knipex, Wera, Wiha and many others.
I also like to talk about my Triumph America, as well as my old BMW and anything else really. Honda, Harley, Suzuki, KTM, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Gas Gas, Norton, Indian, Velocette, Vincent, Brough, I love them all.
Occasionally, I like to try new types of beer, whisky or Rum and anything else I come across that is interesting.
When I'm not making content, I watch Cutting Edge Engineering, Project Farm, Yammie Noob, Fortnine, Mighty Car Mods, Donut, Techmoan and all types of tool, car and motorcycle restoration channels.
I hope you find something interesting in my content. Please leave a comment if you do.

Crankshaft position sensors are a very common problem with these bikes. Had one where the coil was a big fat blue/white spark and the other was a weaker purple like spark. The fault was with the big fat blue white spark surprisingly.
I already replaced the pick up coil a few years ago. When it broke down this time, I replaced the spark plugs and there was spark on both. Still needed a new coil.
Typical man. Read instructions last! 🤣🤣🤣
Had three Triumphs over my life time. Would never own another. Waited for spare parts for more than 3-4 months. And I'm talking about basic commodity spare parts. Waited three months for an Accelerator cable for my Triumph Thunderbird. Just got sick of waiting everytime I needed something.
I haven't had that long a wait, though I notice Triumph does not seem to make any parts anymore. I have definitely had more trouble with this than any other bike.
Beautiful
Thanks mate.

21mm is very important the set is a fail
Yes, it is unfortunate that most standard metric sets only go to 19mm. The 21 is available separately.
@WoodyMotorcycleEnthusiast i have a set from bluepoint 50 euro till 21/22/24 and i have two separete spanners from stahlwille 220 hpq 17x19 and 19x22 which costs 160 euro these two spanners
@@passwordswordfish3013 Nice, Stahlwille are awesome tools!
Did the stainless steel hold up to no rust??
No sign of rust at all!
That's a definite improvement. My 2007 America has chrome panels there but the chrome is cracking/ bubbling in places so I have been planning to sand them down and respray. I have some expensive chrome paint but not sure how good it'll look, but if it's rubbish I'll go with black.
That's disappointing, hope it goes well for you.
Hello Woody. I will have to look at mine because I find that I can't turn as tightly going left compared to right so maybe have some sort of ristriction. Keep up the good work.
No worries
Thanks Woody! Seems like a cracker for the price mate. Wife checking up on you?? 😅 Cheers knackers
I'm sorry that you are selling this and will give no more videos of the upgrades. Hope it went to a good home.
I hope you have made your way through the rest of the videos and saw that I ended up not having to sell. There is a new one coming soon, with a new problem.

I have also fitted smaller brighter LED indicators. Yours are a definite improvement, as you suggested, the originals stick out too much. I took a slightly different route & replaced the relay then added diodes to the indicator warning light on the tank cluster but the end result is the same. I'm enjoying the videos - thanks.
You seem to have a better grasp of electronics than me. I took what seemed to be the easiest (though not the cheapest) way out. Glad you are enjoying the videos. They are frustrating to make, but hopefully they help.
Hi Woody. I have the 2007 version and love the bike but it does have unexpected issues. With your box, I think I'd maybe have removed it entirely (with a heatgun & saw) and fitted 2 external air filters straight to the carbs then tinkered with fuel/air on the carbs but it's horses for courses. I will watch your trials & tribulations with much interest & hope it's NOT a glimpse into my future. Good luck.
I did think of this, but was unsure if it would work, considering the airbox removal kits on the market. As it was my only form of transport at the time, I needed it to be usable within the next few days.
I like the micky mouse sign 👍🏻👍🏻😎
Yeah, me too.
Got one of them sharpening gadgets too. I can’t shapen stuff well either. That gold knife is definitely a shelf queen mate can be dinging that up 😱
I was surprised at how well the sharpener works. Yeah, I think the gold knife will stay in the drawer with my Leatherman.
Good for a laugh I like it!
Sure is.
How’s the corolla going mate any issues?
It's a great little car. My wife has claimed it as it's easier to park and cheaper to run that the Falcon.

No worries, I'll keep doing them every now and then. Maybe I'll even buy one of the bikes.
Looks nicer than stock, but I always worry that cars won't see my signals, so I leave them big. What is the canister looking thing on the left side of your bike?
That was a can from a whiskey bottle that I mounted on there as a toolbox.
Got the honour of bringing a dog home from that market about 15 years ago. Old mate had a litter of cattle cross right at the front gate. I was a kid at the time mum and dad picked one out and said if he was there by the time we were done we would take him. Long story short he was the last one.
Awesome, nothing better than a great pet for a kid.
Looking good mate. Should get yourself a aircon in there to be able to work out there when it’s hot 😎👍🏻
I have a good fan so it's not too bad, though you can hear it in some of my videos. Next big spend is an 11m x 7m concrete slab with a two car carport on it.
Your shed is looking so good 😊❤
So nice of you to comment. Thank you!
I'm a DIY car guy but have done all my own work on my own and family cars for almost 60 years. I still have my original 60s Sidchrome ratchet, and have never abused it but have also never opened it up. I just give it a bit of engine oil now and again and it still works as good as new.
That's great, I love to see old tools still in use. How do you oil it if you don't open it up?
I’m on my second speed master And you are spot on about where the key is A shit spot
Yeah, I’ve found the easiest way to find the keyhole is to be sitting on the bike.
I like mine, but I need to get some more of the Vessel brand "Go-sai" bits for it. They have quite a few different ones on Amazon for it. But, I really like my Vessel Impacta screwdrivers. They're great, I've got all 3 sizes of them now. Their quality for what I paid has made me a fan.
Thanks for the advice, I'll look for them also. The impactas are fantastic and I've just bought a 1985 KD80 to fix up, so mine will be getting some use.
OMG
LOL, WTF.
It's the temporary/permanent gear shift my buddy used to have on his bultaco dirt bike .
Awesome! Nothing like a home repair.
I’ve got one in a toolbox, handed down from my dad. I don’t know any history behind it, I only know that for me personally it’s not as effective as Vice-Grips. Trying to set the proper tension with that tiny thumb wheel is less user-friendly than the large wheel on Vise-Grips.
I found the same thing when I used them.
I have this screwdriver, love it ! I found another Japanese brand called Anex, I bought their ball grip ratcheting screwdriver which in my opinion is better, in 1 way, than the Vessell ratcheting screwdriver. To change the direction of the Vessell ratcheting screwdriver they have a rings under the ball section that you twist. I'm always inadvertently changing the direction when I'm using it.
Excellent! I will look out for that one. I'm always accidentally changing direction on ratchet screwdrivers ( or drills, or ratchets!)
I had bad runs after 10 of these... BAD
yes, sounds familiar.
First buy a decent vice and then test it
Thanks for your comment! Yes, I should have mounted the vise better. Here is a better test th-cam.com/video/bm_R0ldU_2g/w-d-xo.html For more information on the vise check out th-cam.com/video/9zsG0zcqJd0/w-d-xo.html
My Aussie made Sid Ratchet, disassembly: take out circlip, push out centre, the pawl comes out by rotating the pawl 180 degrees, do that by pushing inside the ratchet head on one side of the pawl with a very small flat head screwdriver or other tool, there is a spring and ballbearing behind the pawl which will pop out when you rotate the pawl through 180, I guess grease the spring and ball on the back of the pawl but these are not sealed heads so grease not oil, being unsealed I guess regularly perform maintenance because they do fill up with crap, literally only 4 moving parts inside these heads.
Thanks mate, I didn't know that.
Australian made Sidchrome ?
possibly although the handle makes it look like after Stanley bought them out. the Aussie made Sidchrome spanners are tough, if you ever have a chance of buying old ones at markets etc snaffle them up. once tried breaking a 16mm ring spanner and it took a 3 metre pipe on the end with two of us bouncing at one end to snap it. all turned to $hite when Stanley bought them out
Correct these are after Stanley bought them (1991) Red handle was early/mid 2000's not Aussie made but made in Taiwan, still a good ratchet though.
Hard to say. There is some information around but it's not conclusive. Given it's over 30yrs since they were Aussie made I think it is unlikely.
What was ratchet is now perfectly fine. Nice work 👍
Thanks mate, I enjoy this stuff.
This is basically the maintenance I do for the ratchet at my work. I work at a Biogas. And I found filling up the inside with anti seize paste, avoids me having to clean it inside out, every single time it has been in contact with water or slurry. Kept it alive for four years so far, vs the old one that only lasted a year. Sometimes a little maintenance once in a while, really do wonders.
Filling it with anti seize paste sounds like a good idea.
Bloody helpful mate!
Glad to help!
Interesting mate. When the drum is empty or at the end of day what happens as in how’s the drum cleaned? Is it filled with water and cleaned out? Or? Overtime is there much build up inside the drum?
Hi Mick, not sure what's going on but I answered this already and it seems to have disappeared. We was out with water at the end of the job or day, depending on the blend. We also clean the truck with acid to remove concrete.
@@WoodyMotorcycleEnthusiastThanks for letting me know mate. Hmmm that’s strange mate but have had it happen to me also…..
You would really like the blue handled picquic called the super 8 plus, the bit holder flips over between 1/4" and 5/16" to use as a nut driver as well, and still has the spot to put a wrench on. Also comes with a valve stem remover in addition to all the ones that came with yours. I love mine, it's a space saver in my toolbag, especially since robertson screws are usually all I use and can never find a phillips, so having both handy is nice.
That sounds awesome! I have some 5/16 Torx bits that I ordered not realising they weren't 1/4, so that would be handy.
Looks like a nice beater knife.
Yes, it definitely is a tool.
Looks good mate handy for a small on the go tool kit of bag. I brought not long ago a big pack of Robertson wood screws I much perfer them over Phillips head. Whys everything Phillips must be a cost factor.
Thanks Mick, I think it's a lovely tool. Where did you get the Robertsons from?
There's a history between robertson, and Henry Ford that brought about the phillips head screws, also for ease of assembly the phillips cam out when they're tightened on a production line.
You seem to have mastered the opening technique. I may get one. My local hardware has them for $15.
Thanks!
Hey Woody, that was pretty easy! They are Ace Of Spades by Motorhead, Time Warp from Rocky horror and Jump by Van Halen. How do I claim my prize?
No worries ToolCrayzy, I’ll get your details and arrange it! Congratulations!
Still kicking mate any issues with it? Maybe a long term review video if you get the time?
I can certainly do a long term review, there are good and bad things about it.
@@WoodyMotorcycleEnthusiast Thanks looking forward to your thoughts
Love these mate I’d love some but the price put me off. How often do you use them?
I really bought them because I was blown away by how different they are. They rarely get used. I did pull apart some shelving units where I couldn't see the nuts at the back and they were fantastic for that.
