Thank you Mr. John Pilger for reporting the truth, you are an amazing journalist. RIP Sir, being a Killing Fields's survivor, I losts my Dad and Brothers, still can't hold back my tears and hurts every time someone asked me about my past. It's good to know who's behind all this hideous Evilness. All this time I was blaming it all on the Communist Chinese government for backing up Khmer Rouge. What a shockers.

I used to watch John Pilger for years. A Great human being. RIP. Not sure how humans can allow what happened then still happening now to Palestinians in 21st century.

He never actually answers the question why the West was seemingly supporting Pol Pot despite seeming laying all blame on them. The answer is of course incredibly simple. CHINA. China was an enemy of the USSR and thus a friend to the West. Pol Pot was just an even crazier version of Moa, though it seems like the Chinese didn't really like him on a personal level. They just didn't see him as a threat, so didn't care what he did. What was important is that he was their friend and not the USSRs friend. Unlike Vietnam. Vietnam was the USSRs friend and thus China and the Wests enemy. When Vietnam eventually invaded Cambodia at the end of the 70s it was not to "free" Cambodia from a mad man. But to remove a puppet government supported by Vietnam's archenemy China. None of the countries he mentioned ever gave two shits about the Cambodian people. Including Russia the one country he said something nice about in the whole piece. Their "donation" was not charitable it was them helping Vietnam prop up their imposed government in Cambodia as a counter to China. An aside for why Thailand was seemingly doing nothing about those arms shipments. Because they were terrified that the civil war in Cambodia would spill over into Thailand. A very poor, very weak country that frankly only by some miracle avoided collapsing into another east vs. west civil war like its two neighbors. Thailand basically did whatever they could to avoid rocking the boat or a calling attention to themselves. He should have just asked them why Thailand didn't just arrest or kill Pol Pot since he was hiding out on their side of the border.

RIP John Pilger. An extraordinarily courageous man.

This helped me understand the complicated story of the Khmer Rouge and Pol Pot. The US media never clearly described the Khmer Rouge and its role. The purposeful lack of examining the "why" prevents outsiders from understanding the situation (same for current NATo-led Ukraine conflict). We are led to believe that horrific events just happen. More often than not, Western governments are involved. The violence is directly related to expanding capitalist markets.

How Margret Thatcher is regarded as a hero by the west despite her involvement in Kampuchea baffles me.

I always thought that the term 'shadow music' was a reference to nang talung, i.e. shadow puppet theatre music that the bands like Johnny's Guitar and The Son of P.M. were fusing with that modern Hank Marvin sound. Seems like a fitting choice.
