the Imperial Japanese Army mobilized 1,780 schoolboys aged 14-17 years into front line service as an Iron and Blood Imperial Corps. during the battle of Okinawa. feel like there’s some kind a ties to that.
The show is great, probably the best gundam. But I do feel that Rustal (Moon Commander guy) being assassinated at the end rather than Nobliss (Kudelia's former benefactor) would've left a better taste in the mouth of the audience. The whole idea was that everyone would get the comeuppance in the end for the sins they committed, but With Rustal and co still alive I felt it kinda fell flat. Rustal through out his humanity in pursuit of his ideal Gallahorn just as the other characters did in essentially executing a bunch of children to use as a scape goat, but he never really had to pay for it. Sure you could argue that his being forced to compromise with Kudelia as well as the very fact that Nobliss was assassinated could be extrapolated to mean he would eventually be forced to pay, but I do think it'd have been better if Rustal had ended up being assassinated instead. Then everyone on both sides would've been forced to lose someone balancing the proverbial ledger and having Julieta (monkey girl) succeed him with her realization that Tekaden was ultimately a product of circumstance.
I mean the whole point of my essay and the show IMO was that these things aren't fair and balanced. For all his flaws Rustal was the person Gjallarhorn needed to steady themselves and become a more responsible organization and even with his tarnished past, he led to a better future. As I said at the end, even as broken people they could leave behind something whole. The world isn't a game of balanced and fair compensation in conflict and what made this show good is that it represented that.
Good video. Honestly probably the realest Gundam show. Most Gundam shows will have you forget two episodes in that the main character and some other people around them are children and they just fade into being soldiers like everyone else. This one though, the entire time, I would constantly be like fuck....these are really just children fighting a war. Every death, even the most minuscule characters, just felt so much more impactful.
Had this in my Watch Later list for a couple of months and just got around to watching it. I'm thankful that I did, as your analysis was on point, well constructed, and beautiful. IBO is my favorite of the Gundam franchise and it's disappointing to me that Witch From Mercury couldn't live up to this as a "Next Entry" in the franchise.
There were a lot of sad deaths I felt the rage of shino being mad he couldn't destroy galihorn's ship then dying for nothing and biscuit died trying to hold on to life then orga and tawa'z and lafter even though tekkaden didn't really win completely galihorn was reformed
I like the design of the gundams and some of the fight scenes but the one thing i didnt like is the ending of this series this is the most dissapointment gundam series that i have watched.
It was one of the finest Gundam series ever made hands down. I wish they would make a game based on it where you can make your own merc unit and the like.
During season one i thought it was ok, but season two really solidified the greatness of the show for me. I struggle to understand how divisive the show is with fans. My only conclusion is that there is a large segment of Gundam fans who only want a power fantasy and war drama and miss the core of the show. War is hell, power corrupts, and only cooperation leads to a better world. I actually believe IBO is probably the best executed and realized version of those core Gundam principles intended all those decades ago. That said it is a tough, sad pill to swallow.
The main reason a lot of fans dislike season 2, is cause it feels Hella rushed, and also cause of juilleta. Her character felt like she had all the plot armor, while tekkadon members were killed off for no reason a lot of the time.
I just stumbled onto this video. I have to say, this is a very Good Vid. Especially as an IBO fan, this is dope I sure hope your channel grows big soon. Good Luck
If ever there was someone trying to convince someone else that Gundam anime is cool and can be watched and enjoyed by older adults (that's my Mom), this is the video to show them. This has to be the best summary of my favorite TV show ever. Keep up the great work!
Edgerunners definitely hits on some of the same notes. It is also one of my favorite shows. I'd say edgerunners is missing the political and generation aspect which I find the most impactful in IBO.
Even though I disagree on some points, and I personally see IBO as the most disappointing Gundam series that I have ever watched for all it's narrative faults on both an objective level and from my own subjective perspective, I deeply enjoyed and appreciate this analysis. I honestly never really had that much insight on the characters and the conclusions they come to by the end of series the same way you did. And I really appreciate your perspectives and the articulate analysis you give. I also INCREDIBALLY (you have no idea) appreciate how much you don't paint Tekkaden or even McGillis as the "villains" of the series like I see nearly every other video analyst do in the videos they make when it comes to series. Doing it by looking at it from an idiotic meta perspective. Instead of looking at it with meta-tinted glasses you actually look at the series for what it itself says. Seeing them as nothing more than tragic, and victims of both their own flaws and the cruel circumstances forced onto them. And that I cannot appreciate enough.
For your first video, this is really good. You speak into the mic well, the script is well-written, the editing is great, and the use of music is nice. Hope to see more.
Well I think it was implied well enough that the Teiwaz higher ups other than McMurdo didn’t really like them or naze Turbine Who stated that no one likes young upstarts.
They might not have liked them, but they were happy to allow them in and work with them until it reached a point that they had surpassed them. That was when parts of Teiwaz turned against them enough to try to actually kill them.
I loved it, theres a lot of ways IBO can be analysed, be it by its importance alongside other stories, its own tale in the context of the show or our world. How as time has gone by, the series seems to gain more importance with the issues we are dealing with.
this was amazing.ibo is my favourite gundam series.I was thinking about how would i write a sequel to it but your review made me realize it would lack what made ibo ibo
Dude, thanks for express really beautiful what this series made me feel. From the beginning it was a history about atrocities 😢
By far the best analysis i've seen and heard about this show!!! i just bought the whole soundtrack collection.

Man this video just made me notice that they used shinos eye logo for a factory :’)
Bro made one video then left
Rather waxing poetic, and could stand to be 10mins or so shorter, but this was an excellent breakdown.

I love IBO so much, easily in my top 10 list. Very well-made video, you've got a good eye for literary analysis and a helluva way with words!

You wanted a W, but this world building was far away of that. You can feel that along the series 😢
Holy cow, man, this is your first video. This is very well done! I'm looking forward to more. Especially if it's more gundam.
Excellent analysis!

Excellence!

I agree with you there. Especially with trying to understand why so many were divided over it.
Agreed.

we really need another season of this masterpiece
Do you know what the name of the song used in the background of the beginning of the video is
It's part of the shows OST, called "Our Home"
Thank you so much bro

cyberpunk edgerunner is basically an abridged version of this

Cool story bro, tell it again.
