Garden Dome Workshop

In preparation for our dome, fabrication and assembly, I have put together this video to explain the process of what we will be doing in the two weekends of fabrication and building the dome on site. Having a dome built on your property with a workshop helps build a community of season extension growers in your area, and the understanding of how geodesic dome greenhouses can benefit increased v...

Dome Garden update 3.

All the plants are put in the self watering/wicking pots. Also added sheets of expanded metal around the perimeter to keep out rodents. Having the vegetables in these big pots also makes it hard for rodents to climb in (Mice and smaller ones anyway).

This is our eighth dome and working the system here for a very hot and humid climate of Alabama. 40% shade cloth and a 9 foot umbrella at the top to collect water. Also, it's there to add a nice spot of shade during the hot midday sun. (sorry about the finger)
Retirement Fund Differences. Why am I waiting to Retire?

I have been wondering about this for a long time. What is my incentive for waiting to take my retirement?I know I will get less money initially if I take it earlier, but how long does it take to make up that money if I wait. That's a great way of doing it. Thank you for showing this method. Perhaps you want to use one that I am currently experimenting with: I place an empty pot of the size and height to which I want the water level into the bigger 'outside' planting pot ( I use 'pretty' planters that speak to my eye) upside down, so the opening is at the bottom and the drainage holes are up. I fill the bottom layer with wicking materials, mostly half rotted wood that holds the water endlessly and soaks up the nutrients. I will begin to add charcoal as well to keep the weight light in these pots. Mine are quite large so I like to keep it light. I then add deeper forest soil as a layer, mid-deep soil as a layer, then top it with forest top-mulch and horse manure and/or stinging nettle dried green fertiliser after I have planted the plants. Again, thank you for showing this method.

    Hey Dan, This spreadsheet gives a general idea of the breakeven point, but other factors must be considered for a more accurate analysis. One of the significant factors is whether you plan to continue working, consulting, or receiving passive income. If your income is less than $21,240 per year or $1,770 monthly, it will delay your breakeven point beyond age 80. However, if you make more than $21,240 per year, you will lose $1 of social security for every $2 over $21,240. Although this spreadsheet can offer a general perspective, there is a bit more to be done.

    • @danielhalsey2679
      @danielhalsey2679 ปีที่แล้ว

      As a straightforward spreadsheet, the information is basically informational for what it would take to recoup the funds not received if you delay. I have much more to learn about this also plus the fact that I will have dividends, investment, income, etc. And I’m not sure how that affects my Social Security Payments. In my case I have post retirement dividend income from my business. That will mostly not affect my payments. But still the break even is important to consider and the aging we all will experience during the delay. I also read at full retirement age there is not penalty for other income. "Beginning with the month you reach full retirement age, income no longer reduces your benefits, no matter how much you earn. We will recalculate your benefit amount to give you credit for the prior months we reduced or withheld benefits due to your excess earnings." (ss.gov)

    This is an excellent example of ecological surveying done via maps. I personally would be looking at this map with the contour lines in place, as it gives me a sense of topography and how the land is slopes, because it informs water movement, pooling, and management opportunities. I realize you probably do that later, but personally, I prefer to have that 3D component from the get-go so that my brain starts to form the map in 3 dimensions as I survey the ecology. Just a thought!

    I'm 81 now, destined to be gone within the next 20 years at max, and it really, really hurts to see what we have done to this planet. I'm not excusing myself either, I am sitting here in my little office with all mod cons & piles of 'stuff' that has contributed to the situation the planet is in right now. I wish now that I could live long enough to see this all change for future generations, but I fear most humans are far too ignorant to understand what the score really is. 'We' are enjoying a blue marble - the ONLY such gorgeous thing we can see as far as we have been able to discover so far....the wonder of it all makes me speechless, and the view of our home from space SHOULD have shocked us to our core & made us terrified of the concept of killing that beautiful orb ! We are too many, have gotten completely out of control & now look to destroy the very home we should be carefully nurturing for our children. I sincerely hope that these new ideas will help our populations to see the light & care for this unique 'floating' marvel we call 'home' !!!!

Here one can see clearly how the ecosystem despite of the differences in season and climate patterns stays balanced and how it affects the local weather. Please be my guest to witness it. • @danielhalsey2679
      @danielhalsey2679 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      What are those truths as you see them? Wouldn't our best move be to be still. Stop doing what we are doing and reduce our impact?

    • @EarthstarfoundationNet
      @EarthstarfoundationNet 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@danielhalsey2679 The truth is that greenhouse gases are having an impact and they should be stopped - but the ecosystem-related issues (such as thermodynamic changes created by loss of tree cover, riparian habitats, etc) go so much further than just carbon. It's hard to say exactly whether restoring the trees is fixing the carbon out of the air or if restoring the ground cover is fixing the thermodynamic entropy - does it matter in the long run if they serve the same end? But either way restoring the damage to the ecosystem (even that which we've done over previous millenia) seems like the best first solution - and protecting the ecosystem goes hand in hand with stopping drilling and pipeline projects. In this case, both causes - limiting carbon emissions and protecting the environment - are working on the same goal. There are many overlaps like this between environmental issues - that's fertile ground for movement I think.. We should restore the living systems and physical hydrology to normal operation and see what this planet is actually capable of! We'll probably be surprised.
