I saw him flying once in Germany on a demo and the video simply doesn't show his exceptional skill of super smooth and constant speed flying that I had not seen any other pilot perform at the time. We were still flying Rossi/Webra engines with tuned pipes at high rpm at the time on the flying fields (not competition). If I remember correctly, he was flying the oppose twin engine with reduction gear of his own design which hadn't been commercialize yet.
I saw him fly a display in the UK early 90's, did anyone notice how he started the engine 16:25, that would be a 10 cc engine with very high compression, he flicks the spinner backwards and somehow it starts.
I fly F3A Advanced, thank you for posting. Hanno had a direct influence on my life via a chance meeting with my father at an airport. He got me the inside on a model / hobby distributer in the USA that allowed me to further my interest in aviation and modeling through high school with a great money savings to me and my school through the independent study program. I eventually graduated college with an aviation degree. Thank you Hanno!
BEEN A R/C MODELER FOR 50 YEARS AND FLOWN UK MAJOR SHOWS. I JUST WISH THE SO CALLED, FOMIE AND R.T.F. NEW SO CALLED MODELERS !! COULD TAKE A LEAF OUT OF THIS (GREAT MAN HANNOR PRETNOR) THIS GREAT MODELER NEVER ORDERED INTERNET MODELS HE BUILT DESIGNED AND BECAME ONE OF THE BEST IN THE WOLD. A LEGEND TO OUR GREAT HOBBY. THANK YOU .
This guy is a legend.I looked up to him most of my R/C flying life.F3A pattern is my most favorite flying style and my favorite model aircraft style.Even to this day.I love sleek, low wing, long tail moment aircraft.I miss perry carbs and tuned pipes.
I still have my OS 61 Hanno special and tuned pipe with the box! Also still have the OS supercharged surpass 4 stroke (on a laser). Both of those engines are still monsters even by todays standards!
I saw Hanno fly at the Epsom model show. The commentator pointed out that what set Hanno's flying apart form others was his ability to put and keep the model in the exact part of the sky he wanted. It was almost uncanny how accurate the flying was. Very impressive. Thanks for posting the video.
I must have seen you at Golden Wings, Belgium beginning of the ‘80’s, where I learned to fly RC models at 12 years old. You had an impact on technology beyond imagination. If ever you want to think along about my new wind energy generator, please feel free to contact me!
tuve el honor de conocerte en pensacola ´83 , gracias por inspirar el aeromodelismo a las nuevas generaciones , eres un verdadero caballlero y una gran persona, saludos desde QUITO, ECUADOR
Fantastic video. A great historical document for those of us who remember the era before H&S and the CAA, and when we learned to make models from "sticks & tissue".
Thank you SOOOOOO much for sharing this video! I spent a couple of days in Klagenfurt in 1981 and stayed at his inn! Hanno is my absolute role model when it comes to RC aerobatics! He's THE MAN!!
What a great upload - thank you! As well as being a tremendous pilot, Hanno's also a modest, humble, and thoughtful man. A great ambassador for the sport, and proof that you don't need to be a loud-mouthed #%□! who treats people like garbage to get to the top - 'nice guys' can be winners too. :-)

A real class act, a great ambassador for the sport. I still have an EZ Supra Fly 60 in storage. I wonder how he’s doing nowadays.
Not his actual model, a kit it was named the TRAGIC LOL
I still have Hanno's Magic model
I have had the pleasure to have spent many occasions with David Boddington & Hanno Prettner.

I wonder if his models are still in his possession. for me he’s a legend of aero modeling when it comes to aerobatic competition.
Viviendo en Argentina yo me enteraba de tus triunfos Saludos grandes desde Argentina.
