Fresh Rewind the Hip Hop gardener. Come join me on my journey to grow fresh veggies and make fresh beats.
I am in Houston, Texas, zone 9. My backyard vegetable garden is a mixture of aquaponics and self irrigated planters (SIP). Most of my fertilizer comes from homemade worm composts and fish waste. The rainwater collection system supplies most of the water in my system.

Cool video 👍
Thanks 👍
i get really bad worms when growing my cucumber and finally found something helpful called spinosad. it's a spray but its listed omri organic. it's great for caterpillars
Great tip!
I love growing catnip! I have digestive issues, so I use it in my tea. Bonus points for what it does to my cat. Hehe. 😊
That is cool!
the way the camera zooms in and out makes my brain feel good. love the garden dude! keep it up
Thanks
All the best.
💚
You actually might be overwatering, tomatillos are pretty draught tolerant and actually prefer less water than tomatoes
Thanks
Great idea to increase the "worm power"! ~ Sandra
Thanks
And stray cats don't need with it???
Hi! I just got some malabar spinach at my local botanic garden, but have never tried growing it before. Do you think an arched trellis would work for this?
Yes. It will take it over. Make sure it is strong because it has a lot of leaves and it will catch the wind.
Looks great! I love aquaponics
Thanks 👍
You are a genius 🥰
Thanks
outstanding
Thanks
Nice except I have no idea of how you did what you did!
Thanks for the feedback. I will try to explain the steps better.
Maybe a soldier fly. Great for the garden.
Thanks
Very helpful...thanks for sharing!
Glad it was helpful!
So is that basically gonna be some nutrient rich water for watering plants?
Yep Yep
That’s cool. I’ve been interested in that method. I hope it goes well for you. Be well.
Thanks. I hope so.
This is super cool! This has my brain going. Be well.
Thanks. I like to experiment. Hopefully, this works as planned.
Nice! Be well.
Thanks
Great video! I really want to start composting with worms. I have much to learn. New subscriber here! I’d like to make a friendly recommendation. Try to keep plastic out of your compost. Plastics can release toxins that are horrible. Also, the plastic is essentially just wasted space because they are providing no nutrition to your soil microbiology and plants. Would be better to have little or no plastic, and more of your compost going into your containers, garden beds, whatever. I really do mean that in a nice way. I look forward to watching more videos and supporting. Be well. - Colin
Why do you have plastic in the compost? 😮
It is what is left when I put envelopes in the compost. The worms remove the paper, and the envelope window is left. When I sift I can take it out. Also the worms gather on them because of the condensation.
cool
❤❤
0:15 I hear some DRAGNET in the background.
What happened my brother? Did u perhaps experience heavy sudden rain??
I think so. I have not done well with watermelon in my system.
They really want to grow in warm weather only. If I anything I got the sprouted because I put a heater blowing towards the pot
I sprouted them in winter lol. Didn't want to see stunted seedlings so I tossed them. Re used some of the cocopeat and bam I have a sprout in a corn container 🌱 lol
Hahhha. That is cool. Nature will find a way if the conditions are right.
What kind of grating is that around the milk crate?
The grating is 1/4 wire mesh. I used what I had on hand. The purpose of the mesh is to help hold in the compost and let the air in. A smaller mesh, weed cloth, or any other item can work. As long as it holds in the compost and lets air in.
Can’t hear you because your dog is barking
Yea. It's my new neighbors. I may have to start putting the words in afterwards. Thanks for the feedback.
The same thing happened with my watermelon plant, but I didn't get anything because the cold came quick.
Yea they are a trip. I have not had success yet. They always look good and green but I have not made a good watermelon yet.
My over wintered pepper plant may be gone after the freeze here. But we will see.
Mine came back a little but it never really produced.
Hey what recipe did you use for the brine and how long did you boil for?
I used a pickling package that I got from the tractor supply store. The pickling package has the instructions on it. I think I boiled it for 20 mints or so.
I need to do this for my mom.
It was cool and came out great.
did it snow...what zone are you in
We only get snow once every 5 or more years. I am in Houston zone 9.
Malabar spinach or "alugbati in the Philippines is a powerful food rich in vitamins, that's why I love to eat this vegetable😙😋💗
That is true plus it loves the 100 plus days we have in Houston Texas.
I really liked how you repurposed a plastic bucket to make this sifter. Great idea!!! I’m definitely going to give it a try! Thanks for sharing your idea!
Thanks it came out pretty good. I like repurposing things.
Heck yeah! I’ll get that much some day haha! Good stuff
Cool. When it starts it can take over. I love it.
Beautiful setup bro
Thanks
☀️🦋🌼🌻 I love watching my garden grow a little each day, that is my favorite part of gardening.Thank you for sharing your garden videos so now I can watch your garden grow too! I love it so much I started filming garden videos too. I am in my 3rd year of gardening and still have so much to learn. I hope we can learn more from each other! 👨🌾🌺🌻
Thanks. I agree. I also like how it can be simple or as complicated as you like.
Your hard work is paying off. Keep up the good growing. Looks awesome.
Thank you!
Great ingenuity! Do you have instructions showing how you built the bucket shifter? Love the idea! Thanks for sharing the video.
Thanks. I don't have the instructions for the bucket. I did it before I started the channel. I got the idea from TH-cam.
Nice setup
Thanks!
Great info. Please increase volume.
Thanks, will do!

There are different products out there to convert five gallon buckets into SIPs. They basically have the floor with the perforations and the cup as one piece. That way you only need to buy one bucket per SIP. I've seen a version that even comes with a float for water level checking. And they seem to be much cheaper than new buckets. Of course if you already have the buckets DIY is the best way to go. Reusing stuff is great for the environment and your checkbook. Either way thank you fro the informative video!!
Thanks
thanks. btw 🤍🤍💙💙❤❤🙏 no 1
Thanks
Please contact me if you need degradable grow bags.🙂
ok
It must be nice to crave something and go in the back yard to get it fresh to the table!
Yep. I get something from the garden every time I cook.
This is an excellent video, packed with great info - thanks very much!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for sharing Sir. I find these videos very helpful.
Thanks
A good way to drill holes in plastic is to drill in reverse. It makes a nicer hole, it doesn't spin the bucket because the teeth aren't biting into it and the plastic you drilled out comes off of the holes saw much easier. Often it just falls off. If you plan on drilling multiple holes, it saves time to drill all of the pilot holes first. Then you won't have to switch bits out for each one
Thanks
good advise. god bless ru 🤍🤍💙💙❤❤. west trying so hard for centuries but ru wants to be nobodys vassal.
