First, you could compare the length of the strings without creating counters for them. if(str1.Length!=str2.Length){return false;} You then take each of the strings and convert them to lowercase and sort them. var lowercaseFirst = str1.ToLower().OrderBy(c=>c); var lowercaseSecond = str2.ToLower().OrderBy(c=>c); You can compare the two string using the SequenceEqual method of the string class and return the result like this return lowercaseFirst.SequenceEqual(lowercaseSecond);
