I told Mikael how to make this more flexible but he wasn't interested by 2018
Where did you get that flexible pipe?
I know I'm 3yrs off here but, what would happen to venting if the toilet was mounted on a sliding platform.
We have customers who have done that - just use flexible vent hose. Separett now make a 2m length of white flexible hose...
Can you add a handful of wood pellets or car litter to speed up absorption of pooh?
You could do, although anything absorbent would be mainly beneficial as a soak in case any urine got in. The actual container of poo isn't in there long enough for it to become an issue. The exception might be if you have very loose stools.
the 90 degree turn when attached to the loo makes it look unstable
We hadn't fully pushed the bend into place so it stood slightly proud. When doing a 'proper' installation, use some silicone lubricant and the bend will go fully into place, clearing the floor.
This music makes me want to kill myself
very well. but why is this thing costs $1500 ? this is basically a glorified plastic bucket. the reasonable price for this product should be between 100 to 400 USD, with plenty of profit margin. anything beyond that is gauging.
Hi Ron. You should direct the question to the manufacturer - we're just a distributor! I guess the R&D costs, manufacturing, distribution, marketing and so on, all have to be factored in. If you look at competitive products (Air Head, Natures Head etc) they are either similar or more expensive.
Will the urine container fit in a five gallon bucket??
We're not familiar with this size - we are based in the UK and use litres. So, maybe it will, but we're not sure.
Not really - most will go down into the solids container, which is lined with a biodegradable/compostable liner. Anything that misses, can be cleaned up with an anti bacterial spray and wipes just as you would with a water flushing toilet. It's not difficult to do!
Suppliers and prices
Hello. We only sell within Great Britain. For all other countries, please contact the manufacturer at kazuba.pro/en/contact/
if we have diarrhea will be so dirty
Nah this just doesn't add up, bucket method isnt as good as composting. Yeah there might not be enough time for the solids to fully compost but id rather that then basically just crap into an open bag. Terrible smells, terrible clean up, flap closes when you stand so how you meant to dispose of toilet paper. Too many flaws, ill be going with compost
It's not and doesn't pretend to be a composting toilet, (it is part of a composting system) but it can be installed in places you cannot have a full-composting toilet (ie where space is a premium). By separating, and with the vent system, you don't get smells (as users will testify - it's based on the Separett Villa which has been in production over 20 years) and you can either wipe and deposit used paper as you sit, or put pressure on the seat to open, or bin used loo paper elsewhere. Full composting toilets are great and have a place, but this is an alternative that works for many people.
Urine will smell in the garden?
Only for a short time (an hour or so) when it is freshly applied. After that, the odour will disappear.
Where will poo gather because it shows 2 basket ?.
The poo is collected in the basket under the toilet. When this is full, it's moved to the rear, where it sits in the airflow for a further period of time. The spare empty basket is moved to replace this one.
is this toilet a no go for someone with diarrhoea?
You can use it fine with diarrhoea.
@@woowoowaterlesstoilets thanks, was asking for a friend XD
Unfortunately if you have a blow out then I would really hate to clean this toilet 🤮
its good to have 2 urine bottles on save side
a very good separett with urine bottle and suggest for all van goers
Hello. I am on a boat and currently have a pump out toilet with blackwater tank which I am intending to replace with a separating toilet. The blackwater tank has a vent which uses a 15mm pipe exiting to the hull (above the waterline obviously before anyone asks🤣). Would it be feasible to step down the 2 inch vent pipe on this toilet to 15mm without having an adverse effect on the fan or the efficiency of the venting system in general? Cheers!
We're doubtful that stepping down from 50mm to 15mm would work. In order to get the same air extraction rate, the airspeed would have to increase, which *might* present a noise issue.
@@woowoowaterlesstoilets thanks
Fan noise in and out of camper USA support is brutual
We have clients here in the UK where we suggested fitting a quieter/slower fan which has performed well at a lower noise level.

Good demo Martin. Thank you. Am researching to pass on info to a friend considering van life (as yet unusual in ireland). I think the 'bung'/ 'stopper' for the urine bottle should come attached to a chain and have its own storage 'port' as one could inadvertently use the loo before realising that the bung was still in place- ugh! (Design fault I think...if I have understood correctly). G Ire
This looks wonderful, but I have a few questions, please? What happens to the last 10% of solids that are collected in the baskets? How can they be emptied/serviced if they're buried below ground? Can the components for the toilet be installed on the customer's own shed/building?
Thanks for your comment! There are two baskets in the Kazuba - when the active one is full, it's slid to the rear and sits in the airflow to completely dry. When it needs to be emptied, there's an access hatch on the back and the dry contents can be emptied in minutes and placed on a compost pile to finish off.
If the solids container trap door thing only opens when you sit on the toilet then how do you put used toilet paper into it as the flap would be closed when you are standing up
Push down
It’s a ventilated shit bag, and you have to guide your shit so it doesn’t end up in the urine container
Is there a sensor on the Solids Compartment?
Pitty, just can't afford it.
I drink about 1 gallon of water a day. No way that urine container is large enough.
Had ours for a while now, worth every penny, very quite, amazingly no smell while using this at all, where as normal household toilet stinks, really is amazing, we use in a campervan and just use pet sawdust to line bag and cover every couple of uses,
Pet sawdust? You mean like Kitty Litter?
Probably.
@@hwajuhwarang @Jonboy probably means the type of sawdust used for Mouse and Hamster cages.
Much too complicated.👎 a simple bucket lined with plastic bag containing wood shavings or pine pallets works ✔️👍
Simple 'bucket' toilets can work but not everybody wants that basic approach or has the time and space to manage a system like that. The Separett Tiny provides a waterless toilet option for people who prefer a good design and simple to manage system (urine separation) that would look good in houses, boats, camper vans etc.
How well does the seat cover seal the smell? What if you have the MAX fan, which is more powerful than the 12V fan, running in a camper VAN? Maybe if they have a very well sealed seat cover plus a fan driven air pipe, with a small diameter, to draw air from outside and blow on the solid. It will help to dry the solid and prevent the smell escape in a negative pressure environment.
The seat and the view screen/flap don't play a big part in odour reduction, in fact, the gaps around the seat will help air get in for subsequent extraction. Whether your other fan will overpower the toilet depends on how powerful it is, although it's probably unlikely.
Good effort, but this type of toilet isa not composter. I agree it is waterless, since you are separating the urine. Composting usually takes quite a long time and generally is an aerobic process, so lots of turning or churning of the contents is required. Rarely would you retain poo from an RV that long. A 5 gal bucket with seat and liner , and maybe some type of material to absorb the liquid is just as effective and less expensive, etc., with almost no parts to break. A bucket is easier to clean in case of an accident. I have used the bucket system for 20 years with no problems.
It is a collector with biodegradable bags, after emptying the entire contents can be tossed into an existing compost pile.
@@Adiscretefirm Is a hole in the bush work as a compost pile?
How does odor management work with a bucket system?
@@Lookup33 the main odor comes from urine. We put our pee in a gallon jug and seal. As far as odor from the poo, the poo bag is tied off.. No odor escapes. put a new bag in and continue as before.
@@williambranham6249 ok ty cus I want to get into this van life stuff but I can’t seem to get past the toilets and shower aspect. That’s my only hiccup. Doing a lot of research to see what may work best for me.

That's "Critter" cover to keep animals from crawling up the pipe, not for venting.

If only there was a way to close up the bag before removing the solids container...
I was thinking the same thing.... removing will be a very grim task 🤢
Put kitty litter after everyone and line the bottom wyth pine pellets
where can i get one in the UK ?
Through our website: waterlesstoilets.co.uk
Seems like it's very well though out, the cap holders, the urine level sensors... Just a very thoughtful product. I was wondering if any odor comes out of the urine tank. Thinking about replacing my standard RV toilet with this.
Zero urine smell even when it is full just before the red light comes on. This is a great CT so far in our opinion.
That depends on where your piping to And if you follow their guidelines That said keep in mind your if travelling and is your vehicle level
I have had one for about a year now, and it does smell, depending on how long you let it sit. I keep a vinegar/water spray bottle to spray it down after using it, and that helps clean it and keep the smell down, but after a while, if you don't dump it often, it will definitely have a strong smell to it. (Also has a lot to do with temperature. It's hotter out=more smell)
True. No smell at all and no leakage when you throw it in your garden. In the back bucket I put a fermé drops of lemon or grapefruit essential oil and it's all I can smell when I use them. You never see anything disgusting Esther! The work of conception is worth the price. I don't regret my purchase. I kept the classical toilets for my guests and only use the tiny separett myself. Very good product 👍👍👍
That's very cool design, but I wouldn't spend that much for that tiolet, when its cheaper to get a casette tiolet
Then by all means, go get you a shit smelling cassette! This is obviously not for you.
@@Umi-imU-We-Are-One Settle ... the price is prohibitive so it is understandable there would be criticisms of it. I like it, but would find it difficult to justify. Plenty of dirty and smelly jobs in the world :- )
The moveable parts look frail and easily breakable. Nice features, though I prefer Sun-Mar's GTG. It's sturdier, simpler, and cheaper. Actually, I might make my own using a $50 portable toilet and rigging my own diverting and fan system.
As you'd expect from a major manufacturer like Separett, the product has undergone extensive repetitive use and destruction testing and they are confident enough to offer a 5-year warranty. There are many other toilets out there and people can choose according to their requirements. Our customer feedback so far is excellent in terms of build quality and sturdiness. People seem to appreciate the unique features such as the automatic concealing flap, the urine level indicator and simple, clear method of emptying. Making your own is a great way to start understanding waterless toilets, but many people want something that is stylish, convenient and off-the-shelf. That's the Separett Tiny. Best wishes with your project.
@@woowoowaterlesstoilets Thanks for the reply. I'll keep that in mind. The Separett is still a possible contender if/when I shop for a composting toilet. Excellent video btw. Appreciate the detailed look. Cheers.

looks amazing, what stops the shit from stinking ?
There are two equally important aspects. Firstly the separation (at source) of the liquids from solids, then secondly the efficient ventilation system which gently extracts remaining odours in the airflow. Once outside, any odours dissipate quickly into the atmosphere.
@@woowoowaterlesstoilets thanks, I'm wondering about smells once the bag is filling and the hatch is opened to dump again? maybe human feces doesn't smell all that bad after all
Nothing, shit always stinks. There are people who think theirs doesn't.
Waaaaaay too many parts!
The features on the Tiny dictate a certain amount of design and parts in order to achieve the results that many people want (automatic concealing screen, urine bottle not in place alert, urine bottle nearly full alert, etc). The manufacturer understands that not everyone wants or needs those features and can make do with a simpler toilet, which is entirely your choice, but some people DO want those features. Also worth noting that Separett have done extensive testing on the parts and mechanisms to ensure that they'll continue to provide reliable service for many years to come. Ultimately, it's your choice and if you prefer a simpler solution (albeit without the 'features') then that's your choice to make.
Very nice presentation with good visuals and details. It looks like you left the lid/cover on the solid container after replacing it in the unit at about minute 16:25 of the video.
Well spotted! You can leave the lid on, which would be useful in situations where you needed to turn the power off (ie no fan) for a while, but didn't want to empty the solids container. Obviously, you'd need to remove the lid before next use!
@@woowoowaterlesstoilets Thanks for the additional information about the fan!
How does it compost without any other material?
This is a compost toilet as opposed to a composting toilet, so composting doesn't take place inside the toilet. This means it's much simpler and more reliable and the focus of the toilet is to separate the liquids from solids and ensure all odours are taken away. The solids container is emptied as and when needed, and the contents tipped into a compost bin where other carbon-based material can be added for composting.
@@woowoowaterlesstoilets thanks for that
@@malcolmrowe5031 I still recommend using a coconut fiber like we do. It helps to dry the solids, thus limiting the potential odor even more.
@@woowoowaterlesstoilets So your just adding new raw layers of poo each time you go till it gets full? Seems like it would be gross not to cover with composting material. Also the Natures Head, for one person, can go up to FOUR months before needing to empty. Why do you like this one over something like a NH true composting toilet? I don't see any advantage, what would it be over just making a $20 composting toilet with a 5 gallon bucket in a wood box with a vent fan?
Does the fan need to be running 24/7, if so how much power does it use on 12v Thanks
Like the SOG loo's, it only works when the aperatures for solids is open causing a vacume, so pulling air from the bathroom into the loo and out through the vent. Don't know power usage, but my sog power usage is so minimal it makes no impact upn my leisure batteries.
It's designed to have the fan running 24/7. The fan will ensure complete odour removal and also assist in drying out the solids. The fan draws 1.5 watts at 12v DC.
After dealing with a family member while under in-home Hospice care, with constantly emptying the bedside urinal. I can only imagine the odor of empty this urinal holder especially after several days of collection not to mention full. How is this dealt with?
There's no odour within or around the toilet because the ventilation system will be taking care of that. We suggest regular (every 1-2 days) emptying as fresh urine from a fully hydrated person isn't too odourous. As you empty the urine container, there may be some apparent smell, but this quickly goes.
There is Zero Urine Odor! That is why the blue tablet is important to have over the liquid tank.
should you empty the solids container after each use or the end of each day? or how many uses can you get out of the solids container 1, 2, 3...?
Until it's close to full.
It depends on the amount of use, but typically you will get one to two weeks use from the solids container before it needs emptying. Obviously, the more people using it, the faster it will fill, and the amount of toilet paper you use will also have a bearing on the capacity. Because you are not mixing urine/faeces the odour potential is greatly reduced, and the ventilation system removes any remaining odours completely.
I'm in North America, where I can find your product ?
The Cabin Depot sells them (in Canada at least)
Check on the manufacturers website for distributors in your region - www.separett.com
Thank you! It looks great! I assume it as an electric fan as well just like the villa? Do you need to add coconut choir to this as well or is it the same as the villa where it works by drying out solids? Thanks
Yes, it has a similar (but slightly smaller) fan to the Villa and works in the same way. There's no need to add coir or any other material unless you are finding the solids container is getting liquids in. Separett make an 'Absorb' pad which can help absorb any excess liquid - the problem with adding coir is that you are reducing the overall capacity, so unless you have to, don't. The fan does two main jobs, first is removing any odours and second is helping to regulate the moisture content.
@@woowoowaterlesstoilets thank you!
Just bought this.. Hope it is worth the heafty price tag 🤞
Great! Pros and Cons?
@@survivaltrotter-com It has been installed for two weeks now and so far, it is a great waterless toilet option. The pros are that it is completely orderless, although we do use coconut fibre in the compost bag that lines the solids tank, the seat is very comfy and it was very easy to install. We chose to run the vent pipe through the ceiling of our fifth wheel as our bathroom is on the same side of our RV as our awning, so we did not want to take a chance that any order would be detected while we are outside. The fan sound is barely detectable. We have had heavy rains lately and no water has gotten in through the piping with the rain cap. The biggest con, which is really just a design flaw, is the plastic claw that holds the blue enzyme tablet that the urine drains through should have a clamshell-type of cage over the top of it that can snap over the tablet to keep it in place, because every time that you go to empty the liquid container and lift the seat, the blue tablet goes flying unless you take it out before lifting the liquid container out to dump it. This is very unhygienic to have to do. It is gross, to be honest. People have pee’d over that blue tablet and so you have to use gloves to lift it out and then you have to set it somewhere (a piece of tissue) while you empty the liquid container and then put it back in its plastic claw. They could have designed something that snaps over the top holding the tablet in place while still allowing liquids to flow over it. It seems to me that a woman was not a part of designing this toilet. I’ll be back with a six-month review after we see how it holds up.
