Also, I've just realised, is the young woman tagged as Kim a friend or relative? I would be very keen to talk to her. It's for a Channel 4 history programme. All the best! Anna

Monkhouse was brilliant, head and shoulders above that prat Vernon Kay!

Bob Monkhouse was brilliant. Did anyone else notice how, when the guy told him he was unemployed Bob quickly made a joke of it as he could see he was embarassed? He was a professional and a gent. Much missed.

I looked for that, once you'd commented! Yes, Bob put him at his ease.

And speaking of Kings, George VI is Elizabeth II's father, and George V is George VI's father.

I don't know who was operating Mr. Babbage on this day, but they goofed on the first King (it's supposed to be George VI).

i haven't seen any episodes from the first three series of 'family fortunes' with bob monkhouse yet, so, i'm wondering if you could kindly upload some episodes from the atv series from 1980-1981 and the first central series from 1982.

He said that during the original run and also when he replaced Ray Combs, albeit a short return (lasting one season).

What a natty dresser Bob looks in that smart three-piece suit complete with a watch-chain.

Yesterday would have been Bob's 84th birthday.

It's amazing how well known the surname "Snape" would become in later years, and I'm not talking about the boy from "The Full Monty".

Hah! I always thought Max Bygraves was the one who usually missed the prize sound!! Blimey, that noise must have been jinxed or something LOL.

Interesting how the American influence was evident early on in the series. Instead of Britain's familiar "We asked 100 people to name..." Bob says, in akin to Richard Dawson, "100 people surveyed, top six answers an the board..."

Little dig at Blankety Blank for having worse prizes than Family Fortunes! Remember the IBA (Independent Broadcasting Authority, the regulatory body for ITV and later Channel 4) had strict prize value limits for ITV game shows, and the BBC had even stricter limits as they considered it inappropriate to spend license payers money on prizes. It was only about 1993 when the limits were lifted, paving the way for shows like Millionaire.

Speaking of the circus and the human cannonball... It was the last day of the human cannonball act at the circus yesterday, as he announced his retirement after 15 years. The ringmaster remarked "it won't be easy to replace him, it's very difficult to find one of his calibre." *cue tumbleweed*
