    Beautiful blade. With the sweeping blade and curve of the edge it reminds me of what used to be called a Persian back in the day. I know for a fact that Shade Indonesia makes a stand up blade and have nothing bad to say about them!

    First off, I wan't to say that it's a very beautyful knife You made there. I have made quite a lot of knives in that particular style, but my knives were double edged. I had a Puma Skinner given to me by my father as a kid, and it was a lot like this one in design. I would personally think that the design is more Persian than viking, but a beautyful knife none the less. You should make the same knife, but instead of using light mircata, maybe try buffalo horn. the black variant is so nice to the feel of the handle, and it's very easy to work with (but it has a horrible stench to it when grinding it. Like burned hair), and you can polish it to an almost mirror finish.

    The fact that the maker replied back and said this is a $109 dollar knife says it all. And they are still for sale on the site, so why did he lie and say there aren't any more? He also stated that this knife is not made for bush crafting or chopping. It's strictly a fighting knife. Not like there's a lot of knife fights going on these days. So, he is basically saying that the knife is a wall hanger, not for using. Sounds like a very shady character. And the only reason he will send you a replacement. If he actually does. is due to your TH-cam following. Calling him out and putting him on the spot. Thanks for sharing, and good that you stand your ground. • @turtlewolfpack6061

    The TOPs Prather War Bowie has a similar blade style, yes I know it is differentially heat treated 1095, and I haven't had any issues using it as a field knife. Any knife has to function as a utility blade first and even Prather knew that when he designed his blade. There are several sub $100 knives that wouldn't have any issues surviving what you did to test this one. The Glock comes to mind for just one.

      Mine was trash too. My wife broke the tip off mine, while cutting a whole chicken up. The handle was very badly misaligned. And the screws stripped out due to being so soft. They told me I modified it because I tried to sharpen it. So, they offered me 1/2 price on shipping if I purchased another one. To top that off I was going to try and use the "leather" sheath for another knife. But the inlay is starting to come apart now. And I don't believe it's real leather by the looks of it. Oh, and I forgot to say that another buyer also got the same number as I did. Meaning they are making more than what they advertise. Not that it matters. @mrennny I guess it depends, I bought 3, and all were made by the same guy, and all were made with mystery junk steel and bent easily as butter, so I think it depends on which guy makes it as they have several makers working for them, I've heard people say they were never able to get their complaints heard via email.. I did mention this to dbad on one of his posts a while back, and both he and scab said they had heard of these problems and were addressing them with the owner, so maybe things have changed, and I really hope they did, as for me I spent around 400$ there and got burnt pretty bad so I personally wouldn't do it again, I have thought of sending one of dbads designs to another maker, like shade Indonesia, I'm sure dbad would be fine with that, at least I would think so, it would cost a bit more, but I think worth it if its a design you really love.

    I just got my Arizona Bowie delivered by DHL two days ago. Mine was No. 29 of 50. I checked everything out on mine that you had problems with. I did have a little glue showing on the loop for the sheath, but it wasn’t much and my knife does fit well into the sheath. The hand guard sit pretty much flush when inserted. I checked out the tip and the spot where you had discoloration. Mine doesn’t have a black tip or any discoloration in that area. Also, the handle is supposed to be offset, so that’s normal and the way it was designed. It does seem you got a bad one unfortunately. I don’t plan on batoning with it, but if I did I could possibly break the tip, but I don’t even want to try it lol. Although, I don’t have that black tip and discoloration, so it seems the heat treat was good on mine, but you never know. When you get the new one in let us know how the new one turns out if you can.

    • @alexandervivohnai4919
      @alexandervivohnai4919 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @mrennny Why would you want the handle to be offset on a fighting knife? You would want the blade to be in line with the handle for better control and stabbing ability. Offset handles are better on heavy bladed choppers, not fighters like this. Also black color and discoloration are not necessarily a sign of bad heat treat. They are signs of overheating. You can still have a bad heat treat with no signs of discoloration. You are correct though on the best way to not break the tip or blade, is to never use it. Find a good shelf and case to place it in. Or hang it on a wall of your home for display.

      @@alexandervivohnai4919 I know what you are saying. I didn’t mean I know for sure my heat treat is good bc I don’t have the black tip or discoloration, which is why I said you “never know” even though mine doesn’t have those visual problems. When I watched the video he stated that discoloration where he thought the heat treat might have been bad (not the black tip) is where it broke. However, I’m not trying to replicate what he did by batoning a thin clip point with the knife being made of D2 and a 58-60 HRC. I obviously have no idea if it’s even real D2 or the true HRC, but just going off what is stated by the maker. After looking at the video again his handle/tang is definitely cocked downward. My knife doesn’t have that severe slant. Mine looks like Donnie’s in his review video of the knife. I have a lot of knives and I am by no means saying this is the best knife ever. I realize it’s made in Pakistan, which the only other knife I have that is made in Pakistan is Dbad’s 1918 Trench Knife. I had a question though. I was planing on grabbing some KHHI Dbad blades at some point. What’s your opinion on that company?

      @mrennny 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ looking at your video again more closely your knife handle/tang is def slanted. Mine is a very slight slant and not nearly as severe as yours. My handle/tang is like the one in Dbad’s review video of the knife. I hope they make it right for you.

    The tip on mine has already broken, close to the same place as yours. I noticed the same discoloration as you did, but didn't think much about it until I seen your video. I was actually trying to find videos of same knife, if other people had the same issues. To be honest I thought knife was made in USA. I found out from Donnie after I had made order that it was not. If I had known it was made in Pakistan, I probably would have passed on it. I didn't notice my handle being offset like yours either. After seeing your video, I checked it with straight edge and it was off a lot more than I had thought. I tried to take the handle scales off to check it more precise, but one of the screws stripped out, so I left it alone. Maybe they will get back with me to make things right, but I don't have expensive cameras or big TH-cam channel like you, so all I can do is hope they do right. If not I'm still OK. Its partially my fault for not doing more research. Thank you, friend, for sharing your experience. Looks like some beautiful country where you live. PS: After attempting to reprofile blade with 140 grit Atoma diamond stone I noticed that the edge forms a large burr very easily. Almost too easy. I'm not certain about Chinese or Pakistani D2 steel, But American or German D2 is much harder to raise burr.

    At 3:43 you can see the thin strip of leather peeling away from what looks to be cardboard or other man-made material. I could definitely see that the inlay was some sort of synthetic material. But the outside which at first looked to be quality leather. Now looks to be fake. Thank you for exposing these shysters. I like a good Bowie knife but I will just stick with my Gil Hibben Arizona Bowie. At least I knew what I was getting before I bought it. I'm not very familiar with this Donnie B All Day. But these Pakistani Makers are a dime a dozen on Ebay and Etsy. The Timber Rattler Outlaw Bowie was their masterpiece at $30. But I'm glad that I found your Channel. You seem to have some good content. I have heard good things about the Work Tough Gear and hope to get one soon. Peace out my bladed brother.

    I'm certain that CroCo will send you a new knife, due to the callout in front of their customers or potential customers. Even if they hire someone else to make it. But what about the other 48 knives sold in that run that have similar issues. Most will never even use their knife, to find out. And a lot of them will never say anything like you did. Because they think it will anger DBad if they criticize his knife or knife maker. Anyway to cut to the short. It should come to no surprise that quality is lacking in a Pakistani made knife. And to have these problems already, I feel this maker is no different than the other Pakistani makers in the past with their mystery steel "pot-metal" knives. 99 percent of Pakistani knives are made in Wazirabad Pakistan. The knife capital of Pakistan. The same ones that fill the shelves at your local flea market.

    Great video. From the start I was worried about the tip. Awesome design though. I almost pulled the trigger on buying it. The biggest issue I have is croco knives are made in Pakistan. I have plenty of blades made there from my start of my collecting knives. I’ve only gone up and have higher end knives. Don’t get me wrong I’m not knocking them. Just not sure I want to go backwards. Croco has a bad reputation on their heat treat. I don't know anything about this knife. But a good friend of mine had another one made by Croco knives. He was cracking walnuts using the spine of his knife and got a hairline crack in the blade. Really good looking knife with what looked to be a very thick quality leather sheath. He stopped using the knife after the crack but I believe he still uses the sheath with another knife of similar size.

    Thank you for your review. I do believe you are right about the handle. I have seen knives used for heavy chopping have a forward cant from the handle to the blade, but not a fighting knife like this. They are usually all straight. And I have never seen any knife with proper heat treat, break off while batoning that easily. Seems to have too many mistakes or bad craftmanship for a limited run knife. Or any knife for that matter. Hopefully it was just one they missed, and they will make it right for you, and you are not left with an expensive wall hanger.
