Natural immunity of aquarium fish, explained by the fish doctor Gerald Bassleer in the Fish Room(NZ)
I have never ever in my 30 years of having aquariums been in a Zoo shop in my part of Norway, where the symptoms you describe are not precent. I have had the desease in my aquariums for about all those years as well. I have experiensed long quiet periods with little outbreaks and the oposite. I have had all kinds of fish, also Discus for many years. It`s common in aquarium`s forums to sell or give plants, roots, used equiptments, and other things, I believe this disease is a very very common thing in the aquarium communities around the world. On a micro level, a kind of regulator of overpopulation of a spicies or a comunity tank?? I have never ever been sick by this.
Thanks for your interesting feedback! We have seen Mycobacterium in nature and in aquaria....because it comes originally out of nature (I have seen it in Wild Cardinal Tetra) but the fish only get sick when their immune system collapsed due to many reasons, such as poor water quality, overcrowding, etc. Some fish can live well with a somewhat small infection(?). Same for the fish keeper: you get only infected when you do not take properly care with wounds or poor hygienic matters! Prevention is better than cure!
very interesting
Everybody need to know that herbs is healthy, natural and powerful. My sister got cured of high risk Human Papillomavirus with a herbal medicine she bought and used from *DR MADIDA* on TH-cam. I recommend Dr Madida to everyone because he has really being helpful to me and our family at large🤗😊…they are perfecto//
Thank you very much!
I love your channel. Thank you for putting educational material on the internet. ❤🐠🐟
Does enchytraeous introduce diseases too? Does Hikari mysis shrimp carry bacteria? What about Hikari Krill? Thanks.
As studies showed it is frozen or live food that can be risk. See my videos on this matter
@@GeraldBassleer I taught it was only from fozen or live blood worms.
yes. This is what is mostly known but others depend on sources and preparation
@@GeraldBassleer Is thee any way we can kill the bacteria in frozen foods before we offer to the fish? Some say to put in the microwave on high for 15 seconds. Would that be safe? Any other way? Thanks.
@@Alex_Correa Thanks for the question! I know that only good heating & cooking kills the bacteria in the food! This is why granulates are made with heating to provide a food guarantee free of bacteria! A bacterial test (agar plate culture) after 15 seconds microwave should be a good test but I presume it depends on the thickness and quality of the product and Watt-intensity of microwave.
Does it seems likely I could have hexamita caused by the damage done from the red worms. I treated this tank but never actually saw the red worm. It was in my angels in another tank.
Yes, a correct diagnosis helps to find the real cause and to implement the correct treatment!
Thank you for this information.
how do we hire you? I have had guppy wasting for about a year now. I treated Levamisole in water and in food and praziquantel. I hoped it was cured with he last dose but it seems to be persisting. Feeling pretty demotivated and at this point I'm considering shutting down the whole fish room. My fish room has callamanus 6 months ago. I treated everything many times.
Thanks for sharing your efforts to treat! Camallanus, if correctly diagnosed, spreads easily in an aquarium! Treatments must have the exact dosage (certainly not over-dosing what many do!) and also repeated to kill the baby larvae worms! Follow the correct instructions (as in my books explained) and you will be succesfull.
Wow great and thorough video! Thanks so much Dr. Bassleer! I keep a lot of angelfishes so this is very helpful.
Could you make a 5 most common diseases for angelfishes or corydoras like you've done with discus? It's so helpful

Bonsoir votre vidéo et incompréhensible
cheers mate! my boraras brigittae love your nano food, but I have one question: what is the expiration date after opening it up? 6 months? because the date printed is considered while remaining closed, correct? thank you!
Thanks. If you keep bottle dry, no wet fingers!, well closed and cool storage...up to 2yrs and more.
@@GeraldBassleer oh wow are you sure, most common say they lose all their goodies rather quick. So its definitively dry since I always use the tiny spoon thing, but it's not cool. room temp in the kitchen is 15C+ in winter and up to 37C in summer. any significant impact under those circumstances? thank you very much for the reply and the great product!
Yes hot temperatures are more risk but normal minor loss quality vitamins
Very underrated and yet a really solid and informative video. All aquarists should watch. Great you included a microscopic images of each agent causing diseases. Thank you again!
Thanks! I appreciate your positive comments!
Kommt mir aber schon bekannt vor😀
I've done a lot of research on the subject, and I've learned a lot from your books. In my opinion, all aquarists should read it, as it contains essential and very valuable information. It's a shame your DVD didn't come with the book I bought. Is there anywhere I can buy and download it? As for your feeds, there's no need to comment, they're great! My fish love them and are very healthy. Congratulations on your work and thank you for sharing your knowledge with us! I'm from Rio de Janeiro - RJ - Brazil.
Thanks for your kind remarks! The DVD-rom could have been ordered with the book! Send a request to info@bassleer.com and we will send it you at shipping cost only!
Is this available for purchase somewhere? I have a guppy tank. My whole fish room was treated for callamanus worm 6 moths ago. I solved the worm problem I think but I have a tank with about 25 percent skinny guppies.
I would recommend you check with your petshop, fish doctor or vet
Thanks I just bought your book.

Lg
Ja sicher und vielen machen es schon. Fragen beim Aquarium Munster
My angelfish have white stringy poo are hiding away i live in UK what should i buy to treat them please?
Dear, the white stringy poo could be diferent origins, as I explained in my different videos! It could be the food, parasites or bacteria! I would recommend stop feeding live and frozen food and change to DR. BASSLEER BIOFISH FOOD LAPACHO or GARLIC, perfect for Angelfish
Usually bad history with poor feeding and than comes bacterial infection
My pseudomugil furcatus suddenly died recently and I don't know how/why. I don't think stress or anything because only males died and my females are totally fine. I'm just so shocked and bothered about how they died. I hope you can give me some answers.
Did is very difficult to answer! You need to check all possible causes...Maybe check with your supplier/aquarium shop, or ask a fish doctor or Vet? I wish it was so easy to give an adequate answer! I am missing any examination of the fish. See my video's on this playlist and you might find the answer! th-cam.com/play/PLQLaHdi_Irzx0yEyZ6FqRPZOgxjmlUlii.html
@@GeraldBassleer I already talked to my supplier and they only said "maybe it's stress or bacterial infection" but I don't think it's stress, bacterial infection? Maybe. The thing that's bothering me is just the fact that the only males died and the females are totally fine. I appreciate the response though thank you. 👍

What is fmc?

another great video💯 one of my discus swims fine and then suddenly it will go the top of the tank swim around fast on its side and then return as nothing has happened
RIP discus
for some reason rainbowfish always get this in the uk
Yes, correct that the Rainbwfish are very susceptable as species to infection with Mycobacterium! Prevention is better than cure!
proper fish doctor 👌
Are these doctors liable for making the wrong judgements early on, leading to a worsened condition? Whether it’s negligence or malpractice?
Because many doctors are not well informed about risks and immunity of people, and do not perform the proper testing nor asking the good questions. One of the reasons: it is rare to catch this infection...and they are not used to perform such diagnosis...because it is rare! As a fish keeper you should talk to your doctor about the (very small but) possible risks of aquarium fish disease.
Im having a real hard time treating my 75 gallon infected fish tank. I think its a combo of ick and columnaris or fungus. First my catfish whole entire body got covered with a thick white coating from head to tail with red sores. Looked like his skin was peeling off. Then he died in a matter of a few days. Now my pletco has a small areanon his belly that has what looks like white stringy cob web stuff that im afraid will be spreading rapidly if i dont give the right treatment fast. But what do i use a bacterial med, fungus med, parasite med internal or external or what? I need expert advice quickly please? Im panicking. Had these fish for years and all this started happening a couple of weeks after buying some new fish off ebay and pet smart.
Dear Fish Hobbyist, Thanks for your message! Since I am overwelmed with requests I must select those that are willing to fill in the questionaire & send videos& photographs! Is this suitable for 5 inches arowana, i think it got some intestinal problem? Pass motion only when the anal is a little swollen.. thanks
You can try. All efforts with our food could be useful.
Hi! Would a UV lamp be helpful in treating mycobacterium in my aquarium? I'm getting desperate seeing my fish dying one by one and not being able helping a bit 😢
UV is not used for treatment. It only eliminates the bacteria passing through the tube. Use good functional food like our DR.BASSLEER BIOFISH FOOD FUCO and maybe an antibiotic. Temperature max 24°C
@@GeraldBassleer thank you for your response. I have ordered the recommended fish food, but I think a week of time is not enough to see the results. Is the antibiotica available at a regular vet?
@@user-dt3fh6pw7u Feeding for at least several weeks (6?) and no other food. Ask your vet or pet shop for antibiotic! Good luck.

Thanks for your interest in my books! Here is the link www.geraldbassleer.com
Fantastic video, very informative. I’ve never seen Gill flukes something to watch out for 💯👍 and would discus fish be allergic to cardinal tetras
Thanks! No fish cannot be allergic to each other (so far we know) but they can bring along pheromones, bacteria, virusses, etc. that might influence other fish
💯👍 I have a 300 litter aquarium with a bare glass bottom and a canister filter and a filter inside the tank. How many discus fish would be ok to put in there
This all depends on your biofiltration= the larger (& well maintained) the better! The more you feed, the bigger the fish, the larger the fish stock, etc. the larger the filter must be! Ask advice in your aquarium shop!
Better to go for Rainbow's than Discus. Discus are difficult to manage in a closed environment. Hybrids ( tank bred ) discus have different immunity related problems. Wild Discus are better than tank bred bcz in the wild or open environment these fishes go through numerous seasonal conditions through which they adapt and mould their immune systems.
@@rajadey4919 Interesting reply and feedback! But I presume that succesfull Discus breeders will not to change to start breeding Rainbow fish....especially when you learn the financial $$$ benefit from Discus.
