How long after a fish dies can you find gill flukes babies? I lost angelfish with gill flukes . Would I just empty tank and look for eggs on filter? I got a beginner microscope and wanted to practice. Do you know could I see at 100?
Thanks and good question! Normal gill fuke babies appear after 7 to 10 days, when eggs are produced. Difficult to find eggs in filter but you can try. Add 100X magnifacation would be possible!
You can try my AI to get more answers= www.delphi.ai/gbassleer
Thank you very much Sir🙏
This is great info. Ty doctor!
I have a question, what made you suspect that the bacterial infections were secondary as opposed to primary? I would not have guessed that these symptoms were due to a virus.
Thanks for your comment! In many cases the bacterial is secondary...usually after weakened immune system, viral, parasitic infection, stress, bad feeding, etc....This doesn't exclude the risk that bacterial infection is the main killer of fish, especially in the gills! For Ramirezi from Asian, it is known that many suffer from Iridovirus, but only lab can confirm this!
@@GeraldBassleer Ok, thank you! It's news to me that Iridovirus can be so common.
@@pien.piensky Only common with few varieties of fish like Rami's, Gourami's, Angelfish...several studies have been published; Australia has a ban on these kind of fish unless they are proven to be free of Iridovirus!
@@GeraldBassleer I had no idea this was an issue with some species, thank you so much!
very good video. Thanks
Can you do a stool sample with a microscope just collecting and putting it under a microscope? I'm trying to learn before doing your school.
Yes, certainly you...when fresh collect (only after very short time on bottom of tank)
Ein sehr spannender und nützlicher Beitrag, vielen Dank! Ich bin auch ein großer Fan Ihres Futters und habe fast alle Sorten da, die ich abwechselnd füttere. Meinen Fischen geht es super :)
Vielen Dank!
We hebben daar niks mee te maken🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄😒😆
Is the activated carbon safe to use? I thought that it can cause hole n the head disease. I used to use it, and my fish were never sick. But I bought an angelfish pair and ended up with HITH. What do you think about the under gravel filter? I'm considering switching to that for angelfish with a sponge filter to seed it. I'm constantly fighting HITH with angelfish. You have helped me as a consultant also. Thanks for this important😊 information.
Thanks for your interesting question. Activated carbon is good BUT not when used permanently since it can cause removal of essential ingredients although this is more specific a problem for marine fish (that drink water). I don't think that this carbon can cause HITH, since it is caused by a mix of factors, as I explain in my special video on this matter th-cam.com/video/Vo2gq72Tb-k/w-d-xo.html
Thanks sri
But need practical in the lab for our learning how display Thank you
Good sir
tanks 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
If a tank is emptied of fish and substrate. Will this bacteria remain in floating plants and rocks?
Yes that is possible
@ thank you.
Works on sterbais too?
If same diagnosis it should also work
Dank je voor de info !! Groetjes van Antwerpen.

I hope you will see this message and please response me sir
Hi sir this is Ajay Kumar from India I am technical executive for white fish we are facing issues with dropsy, columunarsis, red disease, doctologyrus,Red disease these are the main diseases can u please guide me with proper medication to treat the pond...
Dear, thanks for your message! I could be able to help you but it is first important to attain an holistic approach and look WHAT or WHY caused the diseases. No use to put in medication when the fish are stressed or has other bad influences that has an impact on there health (=immune system). When this is solved we could talk about a anti-bacterial treatment (in the water & food) and also treatment against Dactylogyrus8 Here a link that can give solutions bassleer.com/vissen/online-help-and-consult-fish-diseases/
Great video
No 🌱 plants or terrain of sand , plus no caves?.. Yes poor torture room?😳
In quarantine tank not needed
Your videos are very useful, it's hard to find good footage of fish parasites under microscope. I've got a koi pond, I think there is a lot of interest out there in seeing pond fish parasites and knowing how best to treat.
Thank you for taking the time to respond.
If the Molly is suffering it is better to put gently asleep
Can Molly fish get whirling disease? How long do they twirl for before dying? Curved spine as well.
difficult to give a good answer....but whirling is a behavior associated with many diseases and it depends on the progress of the disease! Sorry!
❤
People talk about this disease in particular with discus and oscar. But in fact it's everywhere. I diagnosed a small killifish with spironucleus based on stringy stool and microscope exam. It took 3 weeks for metronidazole to arrive in my country, and by then the fish was no longer eating at all and was floating upside down. On day 5 of the treatment, the fish miraculously recovered and began to swim, and a week later it returned completely normal. Parasitic infections (if treatable) are not as immediately lethal as bacterial, probably because the inflammatory response is not as severe.
Thanks for your info! Very helpfull! Yes, Spironucleus (used to be called Hexamita) also occurs in other fish....but mostly in the Cichlids. And you are 100% correct: fish can live long with it...untill secondary bacterial infections appear after damage of the microbiome and the gut line. Keep up the good diagnostic work!
I thought bloodworms were really good for my fish. What should i be feeding my African leaf fish?
Thanks for your question! Bloodworms can be good...depending on the source, the area of collection and the handling procedures during freezing, shipping or packing, etc. If you are not sure, try to feed not too much: this means avoiding risks because who can tell you if they are 'free from bacteria like Mycobacterium'?
@@GeraldBassleer thankyou!!!
another great video, very informative
Thank you for the info !
Hello, free from parasites discus fish, it's really or not?
100% free of parasites (or bacteria) is never possible! But to have few parasites doesn't mean infection nor disease! Only when stress, lack of immunity, poor care, etc. makes the fish proneable to an outbreak...and an infection!
good to know because most of the time this speices has something no right with it when imported normally ick
👍
Very informative informative information 😊 thanks for your interview and knowledge!!
Great videos !!! ❤
Thanks for your video and knowledge. I'm going to start feeding only your food. It's challenging to get though. Anything for plecos?
always something new
Thank you!
Hi! I have a julli Cory i bought like 1 week ago. He was just fine the first 4 days but 2 days ago he started to dart to the tank and breathes(single inhalation) and goes back to rhe bottom. He kind of gets carried away by the water and sometimes floats slowly if he stops swimming. Sometimes he swims normally. He is also panting but still eats. What do you think?
This is difficult to give an accurate answer or diagnosis! It seems that fish was not in good shape OR that the fish doesn't do well with your current conditions of the aquarium! Normally Corydoras come to the surface to gasp for air! Maybe your feeding contaminated frozen or live food? Suggestion= Try feeding with a functional food that aids the fish (like our DR. BASSLEER BIOFISH FOOD FORTE) to build up health & strength.
I've seen something similar in bala sharks and wasn't sure what it was now I think I know what it was , thanks again 👍
Very nice video, thank for your share, Dr!
The statistics about how many batches of fish have the infection are not encouraging for a fishkeeper. Those levels suggest that you will almost certainly find it in your tank at some point, and it will wipe out most of your fish, and the chances of that are high. Does quarantine help in any way?
Dear, Mycobacterium is common in nature...it is a natural bacteria. Only weakened fish with poor immune system (usually due to bad fish keeping or old age) are getting sick or die from it. Quarantine is no help and only good maintenance and good feeding!
Sehr gutes Video
Thank you ❤for this series 🙏
Thanks
thank you sir
Thanks for that movie and thanks for you excellent book:)
Great video🎉 I recently got a bunch of new tetra fish and am having multiple deaths a day in my fully cycled tank. What do you think it's most likely to be? They have no real symptoms they just kinda stop swimming and kinda floating around then die. Lost 20+ fish
When quick mortality....usually bad water conditions, poisoning, bacterial infection....
Love you content, please improve the audio and video so that many more people can learn from you
Yeah I've got to let him fast for a bit.
