Ditto on Undertale having a fantastic story. My weird take on a favorite story in gaming is actually the philosophy of Bennett Foddy in Getting Over It. I think that even though he taunts you a bit when you fall, the commentary he makes about games, entertainment, and consumerism while you climb resonates even today even while the game is almost 7 years old at this point, all while relating your in game struggle to the struggle in real life.

The very best part of the wonderful Cosmo story is that Charlie Bird had the courage to come out as gay, within the BYU environment. BYU is very anti-gay, and their "honor code" explicitly states "Same-sex romantic behavior has been and continues to be contrary to the principles included in the CES Honor Code". HA. I hope the irony of the most important marketing tool for the University --according to them-- was a brilliant school mascot who had the courage to embrace who he is and not live in some shame trauma from that stupid "honor code" of anti-LGBTQ principles.

Note to add about the Smash stuff, Japan also has anti gambling laws that include prohibiting video game tournament prizepools, you can only award certain items as a prize (i.e. a Smash Gamecube controller). That factored into the Nintendo decision, because these guidelines are now a standard/safety net that Nintendo can point to if they ever get in hot water with the Japanese government

Since none of you guys have played a Diablo game, I can give ya run down of who's in the cinematic. Inarius (the angel you see) is leading assault into Hell, is chasing after Lilith, daughter of Mephisto, the Lord of Hate. Inarius was imprisoned in Hell for betraying the Heavens and it seems recently he has escaped and assembled an army of humans to find Lilith. It also seems like Inarius has lost the love he used to have for her. Lilith and Inarius are the parents of all humans and the creators of the Sanctuary (the world of the humans) in the Diablo universe. As for reception of the games: Diablo II is generally seen as the peak of the franchise to most fans who's played all the games. Diablo III while not a bad game, left a lot to be desired on several fronts (mainly being art style and gameplay design). A lot people found that game to be too easy at launch and got bored of it easily due to a lack of being able to tune up the difficulty. And despite having the more item slots then before, it didn't really encourage build variety among the different classes. Art style-wise, it was seen as too bright and cartoony like the WarCraft universe instead of being more realistic, gloomy and dark. Diablo IV from previews and press releases seems to be course correcting its core design to be a more expanded version of DIablo II both in gameplay and art style while retaining some of the positively received elements from Diablo III. Hope this helps!
