Whenever I hear Lindbergh I think of the death of their baby and the book that his wife wrote "Gift of the Sea" which is a beautiful little book. But, anyway, this is a very patriotic song!

Whenever I get caught in the rain I sing this and picture Gene Kelley dancing to it. A ballet teacher I had starred and danced with him in the movie "Finnegan's Rainbow." So that's my 6 degrees of separation to him!

If you can find it, watch the film “Say It With Songs” starring Al Jolson. And yes, this recording is a real tear-jerker. It’s been told that Jolson quite frequently wept while recording songs and that’s what is being heard here. His most famous example is while recording “Sonny Boy,” which he still kept breaking down on through his Decca Records recordings in the late 1940’s.

My mom and dad survived the depression era and WW2. They were both born early 1900's. When I hear this....I see them. ❤ Keep it alive! Hoagy Carmichael was a wonderful composer - I love his recording of this as well. I think everyone that ever recorded a song has recorded this on and "Georgia On my Mind" as well. Bing's rendition is great!!
