Hey, you found us! ( How'd that happen? )
But now that you're here, come and hang out a while! We're just a goofy family trying to make a little bit of country living work on a small 1/5 of an acre in the middle of a huge city. We bake, craft, dehydrate, plant gardens and play around with edible landscaping and permaculture while chasing chickens, cats, dogs and two goofy ferrets around for fun.
In our free time, we homeschool our 4 kids and explore our world- looking for neat adventures both near and far.
Come check out what we're up to today! 😁

Getting our Urban Chickens Back In Their Pen

Getting our Urban Chickens Back In Their Pen
Thanks, I was going to buy some cheap colanders tomorrow to start sprouting my barley in, but I can see that would give me a root nightmare!
They should fill the shell by day 15. The 1st 2 are bad.
Will this work from barley you get from the grocery store or do you need them in fully intact?
Very nice And lovely children
I just got my barley out of soaking and it is in a tray now. I feed quail that visit my front yard in Arizona I can't wait to give them fresh greens.
That is great! I'm sure that they will love it! 😊
So question, my eggs look a lot like yours and I am thinking some may not hatch or all. I am trying to prepare the kids but maybe one or two will hatch. Did yours hatch?
Hi Mary! No, these ones never did. I think it was the fault of the incubator, though. It kept throwing strange warning beeps and was just really hard to keep constant with the temp and humidity. We did end up purchasing a Brinsea Incubator after this one failed and that one is awesome! We also did the 'dry hatch' method the second time around with some new eggs and ended up with a bunch of baby chicks. The first round was disappointing for the kids but they were doubly excited about the second round, though, and were also able to compare what worked and what didn't between the two and we had lots of discussions about which things we should maybe change the second time around to get a better result. So, a great learning experience all around, really. 😊
Nice thanks looks pretty easy and was planning on trying :)
It is really easy! And the hens love them. Have fun! 😊
The ring is a blood ring. Dead egg
Alot of those eggs had blood rings which mean the eggs dead. At 15 days the eggs need to be mostly black. Hatching is fun. Im doing 35 right now. Ameraucanas x brahmas
Yep. This batch didn't make it. But was still a great learning experience! 😊
I was hoping someone said this to help out. It was something we learned this week.
Lot of them look like blood eggs and if they explode it'll kill the rest of them
Don't turn upside-down you'll drown them dude!
I saw a video where the lady used organizing baskets from dollar tree.
Your girls are just adorable, it's awesome how gentle your chickens are with them too! ❤️
Thank you! 😊
The ring is blood ring 😢
Bok, bok, bok! Your babies are super cute! Thank you for the great video! Mine are at day 16
Did it hatch day 16??
Too bad you guys wound up with so many yokels…
Your kids sounds so lovely and funny!

"I love shape" - lmao. awesome kid.
Love your channel such a sweet video ❤
She so stinking cute (2sec into the video). Thank you for your video.
A fun ride. Only a Penny.
Hi Ive watched your video now. When I try to sprout barley, mould keeps on appearing everytime. What am I doing wrong? Where should I keep the barley.
Great video.
So fun! Did you have these eggs shipped? That egg that looked like two air cells is a detached (saddle) air cell and it’s common when hatching shipped eggs. I’ve had really good luck incubating shipped eggs in an automatic turner in the upright position and hatching them in a cut down egg carton ❤️🥚
Super 👍
Blood rings there dead on some so sorry I just threw 2 out that had rings:(
You're right. We lost all of those, but had much better luck when we bought a better incubator the second time around. This one was total junk. 🙄😜
@@homestyleadventures2350 what incubator
@@aliamjad7262 That was one that we bought from Amazon. Some folks have success with it, but we never did. We liked the Brinsea one that we got later much much better and highly recommend that one!
@@homestyleadventures2350 I know this kids were crushed.
Those are blood rings... Most of your egg are already dead...
I agree, I was gonna say that
You guys were right, of course. 😊 After this round we switched to a new incubator and had a lot more success!
I just came on here to say the same.
