beautiful
Great video demonstration, I have never heard of Masking Fluid, I am a quilt artist and only paint on fabric, can Masking Fluid be used on cotton or other types of fabric? If it can what brand do you reccomend?
Hi Theresa, I have used masking fluid on stretched canvas but not on fabrics. I've used it on hard board as well and other ridgid surfaces because its easier to rub off. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.
@@robertdutton9777 thanks
Hi Robert, wondering what sort of easel (make) is the one you are using ? I have found it very difficult to locate a lightweight field easel that won't burn a hole in my pocket
Wow, just beautiful. I love it.
Robert - Congrats ! How much is thisnblack and white and how much your brilliant use of colour?
What particular paper did you use for this tutorial? Have a patreon site or individual classes, that would be nice. Thank you.
Love your work, thanks for the inspiration.
Did you know the founder of Nitram's first name is Martin? Nitram is Martin spelled backward.
Thank you for tutorial how to use Derwent XL Charcoal Blocks.
I bought this set last year or two years ago 🫠 yup 👍 very very beautiful marks .. anyhow thank you Robert for showing us how to push this beautiful set to the max
Magnifique
Me encanto
Love this !! Thank You
Many thanks.
....gosh highly silly !!
So much is so silly.
So silly that you came back four months later and watched it all over again. If this demonstration is so lacking and 'silly', let's have a link to your much more sensible video on the subject, Bob Ross.
Hi lovely. Seeing this again 😂 what is the paper used here please?
Lovely effects.. Are the inktense pencils more pigmented than watercolor pencils?
Hi, all depends on which brand. Derwent create some amazing saturated coloured pencils which are water soluble too - besides inktense. Worth checking them out.
great video, it was very relaxing! I am a new subscriber!!!!
new subscriber!
Did you say Parker quick inks ?

Beautiful! I have never heard of that brand of charcoal. Thank you for sharing! Blessings from the USA🇺🇲
Thank you, you are very welcome. Nitram have created some very exciting NEW products for artists to use recently. These include Charcoal aquarelle which comes in a small flat compact tin and is a compressed media which is great to paint with. Liquid charcoal also available in tube form. Do check out their website and products. More of my paintings to be found in their artists gallery too. Enjoy!
@@RobertDuttonFineArt Aquarelle is one of my favorite media! I use Derwent aquarelle graphite, and Derwent tinted charcoal pencils. I will certainly try Nitrams products. I checked out more of your videos lastnight, your artistic gift is exceptional. Thank you again!🇺🇲🖌🖊🖋🎨
I used my Inktense Blocks only on watercolor paper. Which surface dit you use? Does it also work with canvas? Thank you for answering.
Hi there. I use Inktense pastels on a whole variety of paper surfaces - watercolour and textured pastel papers mostly. I don't use mine on canvas but I know you can. In fact, they are often used to dye and colour fabrics too! Best withes with your Inktense creating and thanks for watching.
@@RobertDuttonFineArt thank you very much 😊
Nice ad for too expensive products.
Beautiful video Robert . Thank you ☘️
I love your work Robert. I'm now going to be purchasing your book. Greetings from Ireland☘️
This is great. I currently am mostly interested in charcoal (willow/vine, Nitram, compressed, white chalk, powder, etc) drawing/painting so I think I'm going to buy myself a copy in amazon! Thanks.
Silliest demo yet.
Lovely, I really like the texture and color 😍. Thanks for sharing 👍
Looks great and love the textures created with these..how did you protect/ fix the finished drawing?
Very helpful video, thank you 👌
Super :))
Lovely.. Mixed media is really interesting
I felt really inspired by this! Thanks
I always wondered how to get the most look on a tree or rock or pier.... do you have to layer it with multi paint I have both the pencils and blocks and graphitint watersolutble pan....but I couldnt achieve the mossy look....do you have a video on how to bring out moss on a structure????? Thanks mikelle art mom👩🎨🎨✍
Hi, I've not created such a specific video as this but many of the techniques shown can be applied to your subjects you want to paint. Personally light washes over each other on rougher papers followed by dry Inktense pencils and blocks work a treat for what you are looking for!
Please say more about the inks you used and what 'fusain' means. Many users of this product report that the charcoal sticks do not easily fit into the provided stylus.
👏👏👏👏🥰
Hi Jael, I'm glad you liked the video. Examples of my drawings to help further your creative exploration can be found at www.rdcreative.co.uk if you want to take a look. I also wrote a book with LOTS of drawings using Nitram and other media in this Search Press release. You can buy from Amazon if you are interested. Here is a link for you www.amazon.co.uk/Innovative-Artist-Landscapes-innovative-techniques/dp/1782217584 All the very best with your own art
@@RobertDuttonFineArt thank you!
Thanks for the great demo. It looks like you use the inktense blocks like pastels too - used dry to give textural effects. If left dry like that (without ever adding water), do you use fixative on your painting to prevent smudging? If yes, what do you use please? I assume the wetted Inktense doesn't need any fixative as it's permanent once dry after wetting.
Hi ByChanchala, apologies for the delay in response. Delighted you like the video and found it useful to you. There is no need to spray Inktense pastel after the painting is complete of during actually. The pastel remains in place and unlike conventional soft pastel, doesn't smear. Some artists have sprayed their completed Inktense pastel paintings with gloss, mat or satin varnish and not even put them behind glass. Another option worth considering. Hope all that helps. Hopefully in the new year I will release some more professional films of me in practice so...do keep in touch. Enjoy your art - particularly with Inktense!
Inspiring !
Robert - thanks so much for this demo and others - super informative.. I hear conflicting things about dipping the pencils and block into water , or using a brush on them - even from Derwent folks - That because they dry after wetting, it can form a film . It seems to work for you tho, and seems handy!
Hi J Asisterti, thanks for your comments. One solution to the film build up if you get any, is to wipe of with a slightly damp cloth. This works. I do this periodically anyway to keep my Inktense sticks clean. Enjoy and thanks again
Beautiful. I bought the green and ochre I think but haven't got to using them.. This is very inspiring 😀 thanks what's the paper you are using here
Hi Ranjana, I'm glad you found the short film and art techniques demonstrated inspiring to you. Thanks for letting me know. The two different types of paper shown are Canson Mi-Tientes Touch 350gsm pastel paper as the A4 Pennine sketch I worked form and for the studio work 200gsm Derwent Cartridge paper pad size A3. you may be interested to know that I have a book out called 'Drawing Dramatic Landscapes' published by Search press which demonstrate throughout different sections of the book the use of Derwent XL Blocks both Charcoal and graphite. There are step by step drawings as well for you to follow with full explanations. If you are interested to know more here is a link to it. The book can be bought on Amazon too. rdcreative.co.uk/shop/drawing-dramatic-landscapes-publication Enjoy everything you do with your wonderful Derwent XL Blocks - a favourite medium of mine for sure!
Very helpful, thank you!
Hi Boni, I'm glad you found the short video helpful. Just to let you know, I further explain the use and creative techniques with Derwent XL Blocks in my brand new 166 page book recently published by Search Press (UK publisher) called 'Drawing Dramatic Landscapes'. I show lots of techniques, applications, inclusion in step by step expressive drawings and paintings. Here is a link for you to discover more: rdcreative.co.uk/shop/drawing-dramatic-landscapes-publication Enjoy your XL Block art - they really are fantastic to use!
Golly! I love this.
Oh my gosh, that is a masterpiece, absolutely stunning work!! I can only dream of being so fabulous!!
Hi Patricia, thanks for the comment. Most kind. You too can be as good. It's a case of effort to reward really. Drawing skills are of prime importance. Nothing fancy - just an understanding of the basics as perspective, tone and composition. Other skills are gained as you get going. I have had a recent book published called 'Drawing Dramatic Landscapes'. In the book I use lots of different media including Nitram charcoal. you may be interested in that. Here is a link: rdcreative.co.uk/shop/drawing-dramatic-landscapes-publication Good luck with everything creative you do too.
Fantastic+
Thank you and delighted you found the video to your liking and thanks for subscribing.
Wow wow wow. So inspiring.
Love watching you draw and paint.
Hi Robert, Just discovering my own love of creating again. Which has led me to discover your journey. I have viewed many ‘artists’ here on YT, but I have to say that I have found your technique refreshing and extremely creative, in that you have the ability to absorb and therefore interpret on paper everything you are seeing and experiencing. One can almost smell those woods! Best wishes and thanks for inspiring me to better my creativity. 😊
Hi Chazz, Thanks for your comments. Delighted to hear that the video has inspired you to add to your renewed enthusiasm to get painting again. I never tire of woodlands and trees. A subject I have included in my new book by Search press called 'Drawing Dramatic Landscapes' Link here if you are interested rdcreative.co.uk/shop/drawing-dramatic-landscapes-publication There will be more films featuring soon so do keep visiting. I add them here too when done rdcreative.co.uk/films All the best and thanks again.
Im a massive fan of inktense pencils recently got a set and they go supremely well with my india and acrylic inks
Simone that's great to hear. The Inktense sticks will be a great compliment to both of those too.
That's great to hear. They are indeed great to work with as you have discovered.
Hi, what a great demonstration @RobertDutton can you tell us what the brush was you used for the ink wash please? many thanks Jude
