Why the lateral braces in the transmission tunnel? Don't see it doing any harm in being extra careful. Just never seen a wrap where that was needed.
Hello Jon good to see some updates mate. The powerglide behind a 283 is a good cruiser, i had the same combo in a 1938 ford and was very driveable, reliable and economical. You have small cubes and a lighter gearbox all the better the box is tuff as well. Power pack heads are great on the 283 don't use the fuelly heads for your combo. Rewiring the car is simple with a new loom as the car is simple anyway. Most of the looms are GM generic style so some holden stuff will be similar if needed. The '49 with the split front screen looks cool and the whole body is like nothing else around here. You might need a voltage reducer to run the original gauges 12V-6V i'm unsure on that one, most gauges use 5.5v right thru to 1985 ish in Murica, depending on manufacturer. Good luck bro.
Good to see you back 👍
Hi mate have you got any recommendations around the south east for Roady that's not so Picky.
Mate you going to get a ford badge for the grill?
That XD looks sweet
What happened with the LC Torana?
Yes Johnny!! I could watch the XD videos all day long mate! ❤
Hi john, I would adjust the kick down cable and have a play around with it, with my xe after I put a reco trans in it I found it was holding the gears too long, minor adjust got it perfect, and I didn’t have to floor it to get it to kick down like before
Good to see another episode Jon, love the XD mate, mine is very similar GL spec, love the crossy for a daily. Dunno what the auto issue is i haven't driven mine for a few yrs and can't remember if it did the same thing. Good luck bruzzy.
Back in 1989, I had an ex police, XD Falcon interceptor w/ 351, Single rail 4 spd transmission, four wheel discs, sports dash, lowered two inches, with 14x8 inch twelve slotters and BF Goodrich radial T/A's, 265/50 rear and 245/50 front. They're a very comfortable cruiser and smooth to drive. My main complaint was the crappy doors and flimsy, weak door handles that break on a regular basis. Also they are prone to rust along the sills and bottom of rear window.
Cool old bus Mate. Have the same but lucky enough to have a 351with a C4, goes OK but sounds awesome. Highly recommend going the 8.
Will definitely need to put something stronger behind the v8. Maybe a c4. The only thing I can think of is the kickdown cable isn't adjusted properly? I had the cable snap on my bw35 and it was doing the opposite. It was changing gear too soon. Maybe yours is too tight?
I'm enjoying you taking your car for a drive on video there, Jon. I look forward to you doing more in the near future whenever that is. When you do convert this car to a V8, will you still use the column shift automatic as a shifter ? Look after yourself mate, catch up with you next time on the next video.
In South Africa this car is called a Ford Granada.
While the Ford Granada is styled the same as the XD Falcon, that's where the similarity ends. Two entirely different cars. Falcon is larger.
@JackSmith-x8s That's interesting. Didn't know.
I always liked the blacked out mouldings on the XD-XF S-packs. Made them look so different to the base models, and I reckon it improves the overall appearance. This was one of the nicest colours on the XE. Nice work on the resto. The bumpers never looked good after a few years in the sun. I like how you did the gloss black on the front bar.
Gday Mate, glad to see you posting content again. XE is looking good.
Sorry to hear that mate! Family and friends first ❤️ build them in his honour
Good stuff mate! Try using a flipper on those dints you can get the dolly behind 🤙🏼
This is the good stuff Johnny! Build an XF to complete the set! Maybe a Ute or panel van 😁 Looks like it’s missing the rear valance panel under the rear bumper too 👍🏻
Love it mate 💪
Love your attitude mate always happy and smiling 😊 have you got any plans for wheels? The og 14s with centre caps look good, hackshop garage have just build a nice xe sleeper. Keep up the great content mate! Maybe a rear Venetian would look nice 👍
I'm wreaking a xe ghia if Emilio dosent have a trim

A 250 with a bigger cam and a bigger carby is not bad. 2nd gear burnouts and 6.7 second 0-100kph in an xf falcon.
Nice work Jon! That motor looks and sounds great and will be a nice tribute to your mate when the car is done.
My ‘78 XC falcon 500 had a 350 Holley and a set of extractors and it kept up with my mates VK every time
What does your business produce? Looking forward to seeing your progress with the Impala.
Makes agricultural equipment
Can i just throw in a mild cam? ... i have the 4.1L alloy head weber carby. Standard 250 c/flow
Stock up on all the metal crates at the iveco Auction haha?
Haha I know exactly what you are talking about. We have had the IH stillages for decades. There is still quite a few floating around Dandenong - Jon

Wow man - like a year plus right?! Life things happen yeah man. Youve really got the American bug going on there, apart from us voting on what to do here, what ideas do you have?
i been wondering where you been good to see you back
I had a GL XD Falcon and a XD Fairmont. The GL was Tbar auto and Fairmont column auto. The GL had better pickup due to the diff. But Fairmont beautiful cruiser. Both crossflow 4.1 not as much power as Chrysler hemi or Holden 253. But very reliable never let me down.
On the other continent, is the bara able to be mounted on a standard USA ford L6
It’s a two door stock torana. Walk away from it and buy something already done
Ford and reliable is not correct.😂
I too had an LX as my first car, but that was back in 1981, I have so many great memories of those days. The LX was the last of the "old school" cars - solid bumpers, hubcaps, bench seats , manual choke, gears on the column, dipper switch on the floor and of course the foot operated parking brake, these features were never seen again. No power steering or aircond or four wheel discs or electric windows or locking, not even intermediate wiper speeds or a rear screen demister, no crash protection, no theft protection you could break in and steal and start the car in under a minute. If you put too much mileage on then a visit to the junkyard could change the mileage back from 120k to 60k for a few dollars just by changing the speedo. the next model the UC was more like modern cars we have this century. My LX was silver with a white roof, starting it in winter was a challenge that took 10 minutes of warmup before it could be driven without stalling. Hardly got past a weekend without tinkering under the bonnet for some reason, they were amazingly cheap to run but parts as is the constant replacement of plugs, filters, hoses, gaskets and belts was challenging but you could do that at home with a few dollars of tools from K Mart. Power and performance with the smog control regulations was embarrasingly poor, they had literally half the performance of modern cars with twice the fuel consumption but that doesnt really matter when you're 19. Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did although I expect the AM radio is no longer playing Split Enz, Mondo Rock and Kim Wilde.
did it get scrapped
Beautiful little v8 now days they are fitting LS heads on them and stroking them out to 347 with custom intakes
Good to see you diy fella’s having a go .. in the real world I’ve repaired lots of xd to xf lower quarter sections i remake the whole outta and the inner in a couple hours done once done right the first time and all the rust gorn forever my work comes with a guarantee and that’s 35 years plus in the trade .. it’s fun removing your work in six months after it’s rusted out again and I get paid to Repair it proper it’s all about getting back into clean metal and not being scared to open it up and having the skills to remake the new sections better than rare spares can anyways have a lovely day
I was given a 2002 VX executive for free, it was my brothers “apprentice mobile”, smells of smoke and engine oil, broke down immediately at Maccas (classic P plater shit), so I spent 600 on a new battery, fog and headlight, thermostat, vacuum heater valve oil and coolant, and now she runs like new…though still with all the dints, scratches, rust, interior failures you can expect from an old car!
Very interesting mate. Great to hear from somebody that appreciates the logistical nightmare that is large scale manufacturing. As you say, a massive amount of parts - all delivered to the right spot on the production line, at exactly the right time to ensure the line never stopped.. The principals of Kaizen (continuous improvement) and Kanban (just in time, lean manufacturing) systems are really amazing. I worked at holden for years, 13 of them, leaving at the end of the VE production. Today working in software engineering and the same principals that were the bread and butter of automotive manufacturing are being taught through software engineering, and IT in general... funny stuff really.
Great review !
Fantastic young man wish my spoilt son was more like him I purchased my son a BMW wrong wrong I wish he was more like this great likable young man.
What's the 25 year rule for P platers? (NZer here)
I am looking for a 2007 Subaru Forester STI Turbo
The bootlid having been debadged, I'm guessing it's a GL or S, basic models neither of which were considered luxurious. A Fairmont Ghia was the luxury model before stepping into a Fairlane. Cheers
people sleep on the pre barra falcon sixes for some reason, they have almost as much potential and some parts are interchangeable
The adapter on the intake isn't stock, probably had a holley or something at one stage on it vs the standard weber
"Promo SM" 😊
