nothing i try works they should ban this piece of shit !!!
I don't want to hear it at all. If i buy the strobe attachments will it disable sound? I just want lights to tell me to read the screen.
I think whatever built in alarm option you have the radio set to will still activate if you have a strobe plugged in. I don't think there's a way to only send the signal to an external device, unfortunately.
That’s crazy
I’ve never even heard of this tornado before but this has a better case for ef5 then fairdale and this should really be talked about more
Well done!
Louisville is my hometown. We got knocked down to our knees that day, but by the grace of God, and a caring community, and good leadership, we have made a great comeback. I'm very proud of my town!
Thank you very much for making this informative programing video on this Midland weather radio. Going to go order this one now. My old Midland finally bit the dust (it was almost 20 years old!) Great video!
It's a fantastic radio and will serve you well. I appreciate you watching!
@@EyestotheSky I got it, I do not have the dang button beep option? Strange?? Maybe because I got the 120DSP?
Water towers are very strong wow
And now this town has been hit again this year
Surely has. It's hard to believe.
We got hit again last night same area house on corner of Barnsley loop lost her house again after rebuiling it this time she had storm shelter.
Ohh me... I'm so sorry to hear this. I was watching it on radar last night and knew something had to be happening in the area. So thankful to hear she had a storm cellar. Ya'll are in our thoughts and prayers as you begin the rebuilding process 🙏

I'm just glad no loss of life n it wasn't as bad as that one we got in Dec 2021 . Still ugly tho .
70 mph winds @ 2500 ft is what I see if you look at spc’s upper air for 110428 00z @ 925mb which is definitely abnormal. Insane low pressure cold frontal with a perfect shortwave trough situated in Northern AL. More specs are 2500 - 3500 j/kg 3CAPE with an insane 50 knot 3-6 km shear with an insane 29 knot 1-3 km and insane effective inflow layer of an outstanding 56 knots+ Perfect RM hodo. We need to keep a futuristic eye out on the upper air jet situated with a low cold frontal in the middle of tornado season next time. This jet stream stuff definitely caused most of this. The moisture was being inhaled from the gulf by this unusual discreet setup. Just unreal guys. I can’t explain it no other way than to say: The jet stream abnormally dipped down on earth’s surface and combined with a real sharp and HUGE low pressure cold frontal system just rippin it up with insane historical vorticity and helicity in the pbl. Nuff said.
Thank you. I wish every how-to on you- tube would be this thorough.
Looking at the damage this tornado did, I would not be surprised if its winds were well over 300 mph. It was a very strong EF5. My condolences to everyone who suffered from this storm.
Your video is far superior to the written instructions that come with the unit.
Thank you David. I'm glad it's been helpful!
The sirens mixed with the bells playing the MSU school song give me chills to this day. I remember being there
What is the difference between this and the older WR100 radio?
This was part of the Nashville TN tornado that tornado is still unbelievable the it went through downtown
It was a bad day for sure!
April 3, 1974......THREE F5 Tornadoes came through Limestone Co and Madison CO in ONE NIGHT! THREE F5 Tornadoes! Can you imagine?! It happened on my 4th birthday and I remember one coming towards us and my parents and grandparents ran and got underneath the house in the crawlspace....my dad dragging me by the arm..I remember my grandmother praying really loud..I was just 4 but thats when I knew something was wrong. A week later we had a new underground stormshelter ready! ;) Back then there wasn't much warning...plus there had never been anything like that to come through N. Alabama....everyone was caught off guard. I now live on Yarbrough Rd. and was there for the 2011 beast....and the March 2012 beast as well.... If 3 of those monsters came through Harvest in one night..."today" I dont know if I could handle that kinda horror. I can't think of anything much worse than multiple F5s coming right towards me. Doesn't matter if its one F1 or three F5s....ya better be underground thats fo sho!
This is exactly what I was looking for! I am researching UK tornadoes and this is exactly the environment in which most of ours form. The last two months in southern England has seen some robust tornado activity and a particularly strong event on the Channel island of Jersey.
Fascinating! I'd love to read more about UK tornadoes. The HSLC environment is for sure interesting. Thank you for watching!
My question is why do you have to use the 700/850 and surface..why not just 700 and the surface? Does getting more layers increase accuracy?
That's correct. More layers leads to greater accuracy because some wind profiles have veering and backing anomalies between layers.
This video has been so valuable
Does this automatically turn off after a certain amount of time after an alert is indicated?
Yes it does. While in voice alert mode, I believe it takes about 4 minutes to turn off after receiving an alert.
How soon after the tornado was this shot? Just wondering how much cleanup was already done. I've seen the one video from the guy discussing how well built his home was.
This video was taken 2 1/2 to 3 weeks after the tornado. That's true. The home was built exceedingly well.
I'm amazed at that dent, I mean to pick up a vehicle and carry it that distance and that height them carry it some more, it's insane the power that would've needed to do that. Insane.
Insane indeed. That tornado had an incredible amount of power.
This is one case where you hope a tornado was responsible and not just a local drunk managed to hit the water tower tank with a Ford Explorer
12 years today. Is the dent still there?
That's a good question. My bet is on it still being there, although I'm not sure.
Yup, still there
This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!
You're welcome!
What about Hackleburg?
This damage is incredible!
😮
😵😵
Don't forget about the November,15 1989 Tornado Outbreak around the Airport Road Area!
I feel like I can hear tower bells in the background... Almost sounds like the wind was singing to it!
👍👍
What a great angle to capture the tornado.
Very anti climatic lol 😅
This particular type of parking garage is actually much safer than a lot of other places. But the other parking garages where each end is open and not enclosed, it could actually be the worst place to take cover much like an overpass where the wind can funnel through the structure. Luckily this one seems to be somewhat closed off on each end
Excellent assessment! I fully agree. The depth at the rear of the garage is 30 feet below ground level, and it slopes in such a way that water drains out the front to prevent flooding.
@@EyestotheSky very interesting. More parking parking garages like these would be very helpful in severe weather events!
This very well may be the most underrated tornado in US history. I will always believe that Jarrell and Smithville were the two most powerful and dangerous tornados ever. And I am aware of Jarrell's slow forward movement. That's not a huge factor for me. Greensburg was a slow moving EF5 and did nowhere NEAR the same amount of damage as Jarrell. Smithville is the ONLY other tornado that's done the same thing. The only two I've seen take EVERYTHING in it's footprint and literally entire vehicles were never recovered.
Exactly. The movement of the Jarrell tornado has never been something I've put much weight on. You can toss a 1955 sedan around all day long with 160 mph wind and it won't be shredded into pieces no longer than the length of a man's arm. Not even close. Retired Warning Coordination Meteorologist Brian Peters of the Birmingham, AL WFO was part of the QR team and told me that a collection of 1950s Chevy cars were destroyed in this manor in Jarrell 😲. As for the Smithville tornado, yes absolutely. It was undoubtedly one of the most powerful ever recorded.
A great report
Thank you! I appreciate you watching.
I remember this. it was 80 degrees on new year's day a tornado that night and snow 2 days later. that was fun
GREAT!
Thank you Graham! Much appreciated :)
This is the stuff you'd show us during those small gatherings at UAH in 2016 & 2017!
Oh man... I miss those days somethin' real
No doubt about it, this video and your "Forgotten F5" one spurred the storm relative wind revival in 2019 and 2020. Get your books finished soon man, and do more great videos like this, because you deserve more credit 👍
I believe there is an error in step#2 (c) regarding the V bar averages.
Found this video and brought back many memories. We had went to be with my sister in law and niece that afternoon and was actually closer to it than if we would have stayed home. We got out of the closet right after it went by to see it still clearing out a path of destruction in its path.
Wow. I bet that was an incredible experience. Such a powerful tornado. Thank you for sharing.
Midland says NOT to use rechargeable batteries - FYI…
Excellent point! Thanks for mentioning that.
WR-120 does not "charge" rechargeable batteries. You can use rechargeable AA batteries or Alkaline.
cool!
Creepy
And they built an Ace Hardware store on the former Piggly Wiggly property. I just hope nothing that severe will happen again for years to come.
good job
Thank you Alain :)
